It’s now been revealed that Hurts originally had blood clot in calf, was hospitalized in London until 4 AM on the day of the game against Jacksonville….didn’t sleep at all due to the risks of the clot causing stroke / embolism, and he STILL PLAYED IN THE GAME and attempted 40 passes.

Holy balls. This is potentially the biggest NFL scandal in decades. Entire Eagles coaching staff and front office might all be gone by the end of the day.

Thank God they didn’t kill him.

Not a good look for the NFL and possibly Jalen's primary treatment team at the hospital and/or the team doctors. If you're a physician in this case you've gotta be vocal about the risks
I’m sure the team at the hospital was very vocal about the risks. They had no skin in the game. But you can’t really keep a non-citizen there against their will, I wouldn’t think, unless they were unresponsive (in ICU, etc.). And with the only real treatment being blood thinners and general common sense guidance like “don’t play in an NFL football game”, it’s not like they had a justification to keep him hospitalized.

Team doctors and everyone on the coaching staff all had to know what was going on. It’s even been mentioned that team medical staff confirmed the clot with a portable ultrasound machine before he was even admitted to the hospital.

Article 39, Section 1(d) of the NFL's Collective Bargaining Agreement gives the head team orthopedic surgeon or head team primary care sports medicine physician exclusive and final authority over medical clearance. If they cleared him after being briefed by Jalen's primary care team at the hospital that is absolutely awful. Additionally, a player cannot force a team to let him play by signing a liability waiver if the team physician has refused medical clearance. I'm sure there's more details coming out that's going to change this discussion...at least I hope there is.

Wow, if they knowingly put him out there with a DVT, not just a superficial clot, then yeah, there’s no way any staff member with knowledge of the situation survives this.

I’d certainly assume he got this on the plane flight over. Wonder if this will prompt the league to reconsider these overseas games.

Heck you can’t even keep a citizen in the hospital against their will. At least not in USA. No matter how stupid you can get up & walk out.

im no expert (since when has that stepped me) but I would think the state medical board in Pennsylvania ought to be looking into this.

It was reported that he took a cleat to the back of the calf in the previous game, and blood clot eventually developed from there. He did not get it on the flight over. They aren’t exactly flying coach on these trips.

It seems part of the story is team medical staff originally diagnosed it (incorrectly) as a superficial clot, and then at some point he was admitted to the hospital where he was kept awake and given thinners, presumably being treated for DVT.

He then played in the London game, then afterwards was found to have clot spread to the lungs (could not have happened if just superficial clot). That led to him being ruled out for yesterday’s game. Then, things escalated really, really quickly. He went to IR yesterday (which would have only required missing 4 games) due to confirmation of multilple pulmonary emboli, then today was ruled out for the remainder of the season.

A blood clot was what killed my dad so to say I'm a touch over reactionary to something like this is a massive understatement. Anyone that cleared, allowed, suggested, or forced him to play should be fired and have the **** kicked out of them for good measure.

Killed my dad too. And yeah it can happen in a second. He lived another 12 hours but he was unresponsive within a minute. Also killed former MSU player Rodney Stowers. Blood clots are very serious business.

Clots are very serious with many possible causes, including being a side effect of certain mRNA injections...

Also caused by getting cleated in the leg the previous game. But go on with the conspiracy theory.
You must have scored low in the reading comprehension portion of the ACT. My statement is completely true. I said it the injection is a cause of clots - not THE cause. It's no conspiracy theory. The fact is it even Microsoft's AI will eventually admit 2 of the injections are linked to clots. But go on living in 2020 believing everything you're told.

Svt can turn into dvt. Dvt can turn until pe. Location matters.

I think what you meant is if it was in the lower leg and superficial much less likely to turn into PE.

That’s not what I meant. I meant it was definitely DVT when he was hospitalized until 4:00 AM and being told not to go to sleep. And it’s beyond question that it was DVT eventually as was evidenced by him having multiple PE develop so quickly after playing last Sunday.

Whether it was a superficial clot or DVT, no health care provider is not going to have him on blood thinners, especially if they are concerned enough to restrict his sleep. And if he was on thinners there is no way he should have ever set foot on an NFL field that same day. There’s really no way he should have set foot on the field regardless. “He’s got a blood clot, but I think he can go” is 100% not a thing.
