Would you be satisfied with the Citrus Bowl?

It’s the best bowl outside of the playoff bowls. I for one think bowls are pointless and hope the playoff expansion does away with any bowl game that isn’t related to the playoff.

Having said that, I’m not saying the season wouldn’t be a huge success if we made any bowl, I just think the bowl games are stupid in general, especially when so many players opt out. I for one am happy for the playoff expansion but wish it was moving to 16 teams.

Yes. I think it would be a nice launching pad for our run next year.

There’s perspective that we weren’t even supposed to win 2-4 games considering how difficult our schedule was supposed to be and still is (we have a top 5 sos and sor right now).

I was considering a 6-win season and a bowl game to be a success for Stein’s first season. We’re at 6-wins, it’s already a successful season for me; anything else is gravy at this point.

I agree with this, it is human nature to want much more but crazy to be where we are right now.
Our schedule is still brutal going out, @UT, home to FL (they seem to be improving from the 2 losses) and @Missourri and our Rival game left. Just nothing easy in this league. But like Stein says - 1 play at a time.

ALL bowls disconnected from the playoffs are essentially meaningless exhibitions nowadays …and this will especially be true now that the CFP is going to 24 teams.

So I don’t think it really much matters. Yeah, the Citrus is now better than the other meaningless bowls, but nobody’s gonna remember that a few years from now. Only the playoff games will be remembered from now on.

i’ll still be satisfied if we’re in the citrus, because it will mean Stein had one helluva successful 1st season even if we didn’t make the playoffs. But it won’t be for the bowl itself.

Disappointing, was really hoping for the Dude Wipes bowl sponsored by Godaddy.com, would just be a giant letdown to not make that bowl game, JMO.

No, but we’ve been there done that with stoops. I think we’re trying to do something far greater. I mean if you think about it, I can’t remember what year it was but we were similar five and one or six and one and we needed to beat Georgia and Tennessee. In our Fan base acted like it could never happen.. It didn’t happen but it does it. Could I have no idea how will fair against Tennessee, Florida and Missouri, but if we win two of those. We’re in the playoffs, most likely. Those are good teams, but they’re not Georgia. So we’re in the same position we were with stoops a few years ago, but then I didn’t feel it like we had a shot now we’ve beat Missouri on the road and recent times we’ve beat Florida on the road in recent times we have a lot of road wins this year. UT on the road has been a problem for us.. but Florida at home and then Missouri on the road that’s totally doable.

I just don’t see Stein having a letdown with his team against Vandy or against Louisville both home games. Although the Louisville game will be interesting.

Yeah that would be satisfying, but this year we have a real shot at the CFP.

If we ended up 7-5 and playing in the Beef O'Brady's Bowl in Morgantown, West Virginia, I'll be a little upset at that point.

Actually yes. Because I didn’t see being 6-1 through 7 games with this schedule. If UK can hold serve at home and just split the two remaining away games that’s 10-2 folks year one from Stein. Possibly a trip to the SEC title game. Freaking ridiculous!!

I predicted 4-8.

I am not suddenly above the Citrus Bowl.

I thought six wins vs this schedule would be a great season. We've gotten some really fortunate breaks but we're going to exceed that by at least a couple of wins.

I'm with you about not being above the citrus. Unless you're a pretty new fan, which is fine, youd know how rare that level of record really is for UK and be ecstatic.

All that said, barring a bad loss or two, we really will probably be in the playoffs which is mind-blowing.

Looking at the schedule going into this season I would say sign us up. 9-3 and a Citrus Bowl appearance would have been great. But after a 6-1 start and 3 wins on the road in the SEC and a home win against LSU I think I would still realistically be happy but slightly disappointed just because the dream has got larger as the season has played out. I still think the remaining schedule is still really tough. Cannot have a letdown and need to take care of business vs Vandy. At Tennessee does not look like a picnic ask Alabama. Then home to Florida. What Florida is going to show up but with Jon Sumrall coming home to play I think he will have his team pumped up. Then Missouri on the road. Yet another ranked team in the SEC with a couple big wins under their belt. Lastly L's Down at Home. Time to reverse the trend and win that game.

Agree with most here...we should be satisified with any Bowl invitation, based on what was projected at the beginning of the season.

That being said, the Camping World Stadium is an absolute dump located in the worst part of Orlando. You are better off staying at home and watching on TV.

In a parallel question…do you think any is Stein’s players opt out of participating in a non-playoff bowl game?

Yes. Especially if it’s one of the crappy.com bowls.

That stuff now happens at every school. Even the players don’t wanna play in those lower tier bowls nowadays.

I’d be super impressed, it would suck barely missing the playoffs but who could be mad at this season after our schedule and where we started the year thinking we would be. Stein has done the best coaching job I’ve seen in football in my life this year.

I genuinely thought 4 wins was about all we could hope for this season. The fact we are almost top 10 and already eligible for a bowl is ridiculous. I think 8 wins is our worst possible finish honestly. If we somehow beat UT I could see us challenging for the playoffs for real. UofL has no defense thankfully, but they do have a team who can score a lot of points. They also have a running legit dual threat QB that has hurt us in the past. I don’t want that to be a trap game because a lot of times rivalry games don’t play out like we expect.

exactly lol.

It's like yeah we've far exceeded expectations here in year 1 underStein but now expectations should have changed by now. This is clearly a better team than anyone imagined. The goal should be the playoffs now.

I agree completely with Entropy. He nailed it.

In fact, I was fully shocked they didn't drop us to #26 in voting for the top 25. They should've, I was expecting that. We should be at least a ten point underdog to Vandy in Lexington. Underdogs every game for the rest of the season.

Independence bowl, yep. I mean, they are barely bowl eligible two weeks before halloween. So I guess you have to put them somewhere.

Is there a pipsqueak bowl or "underdogs are us" bowl they can stick Kentucky in ?

Respect ... for Kentucky ? In football ?

I mean, c'mon. The next thing you'll be telling me is that Indiana is winning, getting respect, is a ranked team, and playing for a national championship !

Oh, waitamiute..... what was that ? ....

From my preseason projections I had 5-6 wins with a best case 7. And 6-7 wins is what I really hoped to see but could be fine with 5 if the operation looked better as a whole.

Currently sitting 6-1 with a 7-1 start likely.

If you told UK fans for the first year that they would be in the citrus bowl with a team that's fun to watch, beat LSU, A&M and SC, and OU on the road there would be backflips being performed. I don't think it's fair to look at this year as anything but a success no matter how the end shakes out.

Ummm, considering that was peak Stoops with an easier schedule. Yes! I thought we’d win 5 or 6 games.

Id love to make the playoffs, but I think we lose at UT so still going to be tough to win out from there.

Yes Stoops schedule was not as hard, but in 2018 it was ranked 29th, so lets not pretend he played all cupcakes.

My whole life, UK in the Citrus Bowl would mean it was one of the best teams they’ve fielded since I’ve been paying attention.

With that said, the citrus bowl exceeds preseason expectations but might actually be a disappointing finish if you’re greedy after 7 weeks.

Preseason I said I thought 6 was doable .. and that was with fingers crossed

Beat Vandy and imo it's a good season .. There is a chance for more obviously and beating UL will be necessary for a great season given the forecast

A good bowl is gravy at this point
