It is but its kind of a subjective award. I mean Iowa players have one the Remington (best center) and 4 Outland trophies, (which goes to the best interior lineman on either side of the ball). The Lombardi is basically also that but adds "the values and spirit of Vince Lombardi", So, HOW do they measure that exactly? Alex Karras won the UPI Lineman of the year in 1957 and the Outland, but I'm not sure what they would have said about his "values" given his gambling run in.

Well, since his gambling allegations occurred when he was a pro, they wouldn't have impacted his collection of college trophies. In winning the Outland, Karras' gave this acceptance "speech": "On behalf of the big guys in the line who open up the holes for the little guys, thank you very much."

Go ahead: Look it up.

cool read, pretty tough to win that award as an offensive lineman, and especially difficult in a really deep class this year with Seaton, Goosby, and even Johnson out of Minnesota. I'm assuming it will go to a an edge rusher like Simmons.

Of course I said, "Im not sure what they WOULD have said", (go ahead and look it up). Since he won the awards in 1957 and the Lombardi wasn't even awarded until 1970, hence, "what they would have said". And by the way, I'm pretty sure there were issues with Alex in college at Iowa. Karras had academic issues and QUIT the team on at least three occasions, once 'throwing a shoe" at Evy before he stormed out and left the team. He also reported one season 20lbs overweight, and reportedly got into a physical confrontation with Evy. The amazing thing is that Evy put up with his behavior and kept bringing him back, until he finally settled down his senior year when he won the Outland. I pretty much guarantee you he never would have been around long enough under Fry or Kirk make those senior year contributions.

If your talking about the Lombardi, they have to meet those 'off field" qualities as well. Don't know enough about any of those guys to say.

Outland Trophy is for best lineman (O or D) strictly.

Lombardi Trophy is for the best lineman OR interior LB, as the award has gone to several LBs over the past 40 years or so. It's typically been more of a defensive award.

Weirdly enough though, there are rare exceptions. In 2019 Joe Burrow won the award, randomly, for some f***ing reason. In 2017 Stanford RB Bryce Love won the award. 🙃

Kelvin Banks, Jr. a Texas OT, was the last offensive lineman to win it, in 2025. Prior to that, you'd have to go back to Orlando Pace, who won the award in 1995 and 1996 to find an offensive lineman that won the award. 1993 Notre Dame OT Aaron Taylor is the only other offensive player to win the Lombardi in the past 40 years...............

Well, Simmons mockingly fake urinated on a qb after sacking him, so I assume he’s out.
Seriously, he should have been suspended for a game for , mock unzipping his fly and then pissing on his prey. I know, I know, others disagree, I think that kind of disregard for sportsmanship should be dealt with accordingly.
