You can go research it if you want proof. I have screaming this is THE dude Carolina needs forever. We won't have equal bigs on either line with the top SEC schools (which are the top NATIONAL schools). You have to have a quirky, forward-thinking offensive mind that knows how to score points and stays on the edge of innovation.
I saw the article about potential for record setting offensive categories to be broken. This isn't anything new. Just think if THIS guy had 5-7 years somewhere to really put in place what he wants to do?
No matter what happens.....there better be a plan in place for this guy to be retained on ANY level. If he's ready for the next step up......"welcome home" my friend. If he wants to stay OC forever.....that's fine as well. YOU HAVE TO RECOGNIZE AND LOCK UP COACHING TALENT.

I agree. I've wanted him to be OC since 2020 and when his name became the leader in the search last year, I was thrilled.

Briles is busy saving Beamer's job right now.
Beamer could reward him with the Assistant HC moniker as a Christmas present which would put him a notch closer, but I wouldn't count on it.

If he's really that good, he will get hired away by a big time program. SC's luck would be that Bobo retires at UGA and Kirby snatches Briles up. Even worse, Dabo hires him away.
I had not even *thought* of either of those scenarios.....:sick::sick: Thanks for that! :cautious::LOL::LOL:

Briles isn't underpaid. He's making $1.4M a year. That is more than Morris at Clemson. Bobo is making $2.2M a year. The highest paid OC is Charlie Weis Jr. at LSU, making $2.5M a year.

Bobo I doubt is retiring. He's in his early 50s. He can make another $20M+ working ten more years. He always has a job at UGA as long as they're in the playoff hunt (which they usually are). And it's his Alma mater.

we may just have a hard time keeping him. i mean, he's improved our offense by 15 ppg, year over year. and we are better across the board in just about every offensive category. i could see him getting some HC offers from G5 type programs.

It would be typical that the team he was hired by would be on our schedule three years later and he'd come into WB and beat us in our home opener.

He's BEEN really good for a long time. He took his dad's innovative approach and built onto it. Literally thousands of offensive coaches across the land in HS, College, Pro have poached some of the stuff that he/his dad made mainstream. That's the point of my initial post - THE TIME IS NOW TO LOCK HIM DOWN!!!!

This is what I'm talking about. SMH. The resume is there. The pedigree. The coaching talent. If our powers that be can't recognize this and act on it....we are officially doomed. He's already proven he is no flash in the pan. He's already proven his last name didn't get him the job. Not acting on locking him into our football program will be a huge black eye that will not soon be forgotten.

If that happened and he proceeded to dominate us, that would be absolute proof positive of the chicken curse.
I don't know why Clemson is being thrown about. They've had versions of guys who were poor man's Briles (like Morriss) a few times.
The only curse it would shed light on is that curse of having deficient admin powers understanding how vital coaching talent is to a football program.
You think Holtz and Spurrier are coaching talents or no? Could win anywhere. Make something out of nothing. Overcome unbelievable obstacles. Are great X and O guys. Are great communicators of getting what they want done and players / admin understanding it.

On the other hand, it does force us to do what got us into trouble with Paris and Beamer: give a big raise based on one year of performance.

If he's offered a G5 head coaching gig, we probably can't keep him. Unless he's willing to continue building his coordinator resume at the P4 level, holding out for a P4 head coach gig.

If a larger program comes sniffing around at him for OC, we would get in a bidding war and are unlikely to win.

One factor could be family. He's moved 7 times since 2017...from Tx to Fl, back to Tx, back to Fl, to Arkansas, back to Tx and now SC. He has a son that's probably in about 10th grade, and a couple younger kids, so maybe they want some stability as one kid nears graduation.

He's a Texas boy, though.

And, if he leaves, he most likely takes Clements with him, likely undoing our offensive gains from this year.

I'm not sure a see a great ending for us. Even if we can hold onto him for next year, if our offensive improvement sticks, there's no way he doesn't move to a bigger job or a HC gig somewhere. The only way we can keep him is probably naming him HC, but that would be based on the offense performing well which likely mean we have a decent enough record to retain Beamer.

When you say "lock him down," are you more concerned about him being hired away as an OC or as a HC? He's already among the 10 highest paid OCs in college football now, so I think the administration has demonstrated a pretty strong commitment to him. If he decided to take an OC job at Michigan, Texas, or the like, I suspect it would be more about the prestige of the program than the money (which we would probably come close to matching). But if an upper tier G5 or lower tier P4 team wants to hire him as a HC, I'm not sure it's possible to retain him as an OC. If a school comes along and offers him a 5 year, $20m+ contract to be the head guy, I don't think any program could (or would) match that for an OC.

If he's already a highly paid OC, maybe "locking him down" means a promotion? Do we have a heqd coaching vacancy? :)

That would require a specific set of circumstances in which the offense is prolific but we end up with a bad record. Maybe we can pull it off.

Yeah, or the interim route. I doubt it happens. A lot of our fans seem sold on the idea that we're broke to the point we cant replace him at the end of the year. That probably means we can't do it mid season either.

Georgia had no problem firing Mark Richt to sign Kirby Smart
Richt had plateaued at UGA. They should have fired him about 5 years before they did. He had gotten to the point that he couldn't beat any good teams. There really was no excuse for him losing to us as much as he did. UGA almost always had more talent than we did when we played. He was a nice guy and a good man, but he wasn't ever going to get them to where they wanted to be. UGA knew they had all the resources to win championships and Richt wasn't getting it done.

His final season at UGA, he went 9-3. He lost an ugly game to Bama, to unranked Tennessee and he really blew it by losing to UF, a loss that cost UGA winning the East. After the UF loss, he was a dead man walking. The UGA people had seen enough. He won 8 or more games every season except one. If he had done the same at SC, the stadium would be named for him.

Don't know where that figure came from, but according to this article he makes about 50% more than that.

May have reached out. May have tried. Maybe couldn’t afford. Maybe didn’t want to come here. Maybe not everything is reported on message boards and social media.
There was talk that he had already agreed to take the Miami job before the UF game and he threw the UF game (he started a backup QB even though the starter wasn't hurt) so he would be fired and owed his buyout. If he had quit after the season, he would not have gotten any buyout money.

I doubt he would have come here.

Loggains had 50 TDs in 2024 with bad OL play.

Let's see if Briles can hit that mark with good OL play.

He's got 26 TDs at the halfway point but he's done with non-con games for the year.

Sellers goes from zero to hero in a matter of days. And he's doing with sub-par receiver play.

This is why it's best to ignore Botman's Emo accounts.

I heard Briles’ family moved back to Texas before the school year started. That can’t be a long term plan?
