MLB announced its Gold Glove finalists. Mets have three!

Pitcher: Nolan McLean
Catcher: Luis Torrens
Right Field: Carson Benge

I have no idea whether McLean is deserving. I do believe Torrens is deserving, but will a part-time player win? In right field, Corbin Carroll will be very hard to beat, as he is a superb fielder. However, Carroll's arm is average at best, so Benge has an edge there.

I had been hearing about McLean being up there all year long. So, he has earned his props. Torrens- dude is a beast behind the plate but can't see a backup winning it. Benge- Not only makes all routine plays but has a chest full of highlights- and damn- his arm...there may be a couple a little stronger, but he also just seems online to the target every damn time. People do not even take the extra base when it seems obvious, they should- btw- Am I the only one that thinks CC may be the most overrated player in baseball not named Vlad?

I wonder if the owners were sort of pulling for the Dodgers to run away with this to prove that the salary cap is needed. The Brewers single handedly ruined their biggest argument for one.

Speaking of the Brewers- Cohen hired the wrong Executive out of Milwaukee

I don't know how many times you need to repeat yourself but man it's old by now. Also Stearns had a hand in acquiring most of that team at some point or the other. He's the one who built the infrastructure for them to succeed. Things don't change immediately overnight it takes time to build in baseball considering how the game works. The current FO gets the most credit but you have to be a fool to think that Stearns didn't help turn the tide of that franchise.

It doesn't mean he's going to automatically do the same thing here but to go on and on about every post is tiring. Go root for the Orioles at this point.

With the way things turned out. I was going to ask the same question here…how much credit if any do Stearn’s get for Milwaukee?

And @Zak57, we’re all Met fans here. Especially @yesrutgers01.

We are also frustrated how things had turned out so far. So I have no issue with the venting against the front office. I don’t think it’s a broken record, it’s skipping…but it’s not broken.

It's literally every single post for months. Like we get how YES feels about the GM already. Of course everyone is frustrated with last season but the constant whining about it isn't going to change anything.

Stearns hired Matt Arnold. He hired Pat Murphy. He hired probably 3/4 or more of the people in their baseball Ops department. He started their pitching lab with is a big part of their success. He was GM when they acquired every player listed below and that's not including people Arnold traded like Burnes that he acquired to get Ortiz and Hall. To think Stearns didn't have any part of how that franchise built up is asinine as the foundation was built when he was in charge.

You want to tell me we go to the playoffs a few years in a row and never make the WS that Stearns can't get over the hump then sure it would make sense.

Probably just click bait but alot of articles on Devers and Harper as possibilities to the Mets I would hate both due to contract and what the Mets would have to give up for them. As Skubal is the free agent prize this year, I do not see a whole slew of suitors for his services can the Mets get him for ~$350MM??

Will depend on the Bichette option but I don't see either of those two bats.

Skubal maybe for sure. All depends on CBA for sure unless he thinks he should sign beforehand to maximize his earnings.

Dude - that was the first post in this thread that I brought up Stearns where I was not responding to someone else that brought him up. Same with most of the regular season. And I have been very active in talking just baseball and this team.

I am sorry if for some reason it triggers you so much. Because the Stearns talks usually happen during triggering events for us Met's fans.

But it is also now the off-season...And the off season is going to be a GM hotbed of talk because this is their time to shine or fail.

And don't f-ing tell me who to root for. Though, Stearns did have me following the Orioles this year. And that is on him. But I have been a fan for nearly 60 years. Your love of Stearns is actually what is more concerning than us fans who are so pissed off that he has really ruined the enjoyment of watching them. Sure- it was fun to watch Benge and Ewing come up but that does not trump the season and the overall joke the team has become.

I will say what I want just like you. I'm not triggered but the act is old already. It's hundreds of posts this year. You literally just brought up you hope the Brewers win even more because it makes Stearns look bad but that doesn't even make sense. I've said the season was a failure with drops of success. Not nearly where we want to be and if somehow happens again next year then Stearns 100% has to go.

When new moves are made yes I want to discuss. I call the GM out when needed and I'm not 100% in lock step but I totally understand what he was looking to do last off-season not it didn't work and he needs to further adjust.

But now, If I am only talking about Stearns and not the Met's themselves, just ignore me dude. Because, as long as Stearns continues screwing up as much as he does and gives us that damn smirk as well as making up fake news like run prevention, then I will continue to have negative things to say. And if he turns it around and starts to do something good- I will give him his props.

So- put me on ignore, that is the best thing you can do

That would be better D in RF and CF for sure. Semien is better than McNeil. Bichette did get more comfortable at 3rd. And Lindor was back to himself at SS once he got healthy. But mostly better because of how good Benge and Ewing are

We'll start with the position players.

I don't see anyone being a Benge, in the sense of a starter on Opening Day. The most MLB-ready player is of course Morabito, whom I view as a Tyrone Taylor replacement as fourth or fifth outfielder. Of the others, I think Pitre might be closest, but I don't see him as an everyday player either.

As far as the next Ewing (someone who comes up during the season and wins a regular job), I would say Rojas. However, there is a big caveat. Rojas must be protected on the 40 man, which means that he can't play in the minors during a lockout. This could retard his development.

According to the calendar, Ryan Clifford is overdue, but I don't think he is going to make it.

One interesting name which is not listed is Billy Amick, who could produce Dave Kingman type numbers, good and bad.

I won't guess who might be traded. Last year McLean and Benge were clearly considered untouchable. I am not sure anyone on this list is.

I will offer my thoughts on the pitchers later.

Good stuff- and agree that even for any prospect- to come up with an impact like Benge or McLean is very difficult. But I do like your take on all of it. Funny thing about 1970's baseball and now- Back then Kingman type numbers were unique and looked down on. In the 202's - those type of numbers would get him a 5 year $150M contract. His 162 game average of 37 HR, 101 RBI and he actually struck out less than many "contact" hitters today. only averaged 152 per his 162 game average. Guys today K near 200 times and are HOF bound. lol

And maybe the Yankees picked the wrong guy to be their Captain. The s*it "The Captain" has said about the Yankees has pissed off management, especially coming from the "softest" big name player in MLB history. https://sports.yahoo.com/articles/held-aaron-judge-responsible-yankees-014759250.html
I no longer consider Judge soft. prior to this year- he has been rock solid except for his injury crashing through the outfield wall. And that was a 5 year period.

As for what he has said- he wasn't wrong. And go back to soft- you are calling him that when this year's big thing was that he wanted to play and they wouldn't let him. I know I am a Met's fan but just a wrong baseball take.

I heard that media has contract outs if it goes longer than 60 days. So, that may force a timeline.

Rojas is the next "Benge" and Voit would be the next "Ewing". Pitre is the 3rd position player wise who might really surprise. Others will bubble up as well..

Santucci should slot in as a 4 sometime next year hopefully if we need him. More arms coming too all over. The pitching depth throughout the organization is being built pretty well.

The last lockout five years ago was settled on March 12. They had an abbreviated spring training, pushed opening Day back a week, and played the full 162. So figure early-mid March is the absolute earliest settlement date.

The 60 games (not 60 days) issue is this: The current media contracts expire at the end of the 2028 season. The owners expect massive revenue increases in the next deal. However, there is a clause in the current media contracts that in the event of a lockout resulting in the loss of 60 games, the contracts are automatically extended for another year, to the end of 2029.

The owners do not want this. Therefore, they have an incentive to settle the lockout in time to avoid losing 60 games. Figure early May.

However, if 60 games are lost, the owners may decide that the damage is done, and there's no point in making any concessions now.

Probably right however I think it would take a lot for the Mets to trade Rojas / Pena / Voit or Stafura.

Ironically they’re all infielders !
