heck seems to inspire the O, what you want to see out of the qb, lifts everybody’s performance. I just don’t understand trotting Hank back out there. Heck Throwing it on the run, rolling out is exactly what we need.

'very good' is a STRETCH, at this point. Very limited overall game film on either so far, which also means very little real 'game experience'.
We've seen more of Hank. It seems at least half of Hank's throws were inaccurate to some degree. Very little offensive movement vs P4 competition with him. The only 2 TD drives vs Mich were helped out with a few breaks (penalties, and tipped balls).

I think both are serviceable at minimum, and better than many QBs we've had recently (not saying much). We've seen enuf of Hank to know his upside is limited. I would love to see more of Heck, b/c I believe he may have more upside. We just don't know yet. It seems he might have more positive intangibles too.

If they're close to equal, go with Heck, the younger, less experienced kid. He has more potential for improvement with experience, and an additional year of eligibility.

I think heck starts and they cycle Hank in potentially. But who knows. All I know is if the run game struggles whoever it is better find a way to make minny pay if they over play the run by stacking box.

It has to be Lester, the Iowa QB coach and the starter, who I think should be Heck.

Look at the jolt Heck gave:

* at the end of the Ohio State game

* for the entire Washington game

Well they still have nearly 2 weeks of practice to see if one seems sharper than the other. I think Hank will start if he is 100%. Heck might have a quicker read or other intangibles but I have read and seen that Hank can throw that 30 yard out pattern and maybe the 50 yard deep ball better. I think both are above average.

No, Hank can’t throw on the run or move in the pocket like Heck. Heck has better short area quickness and is a much better thrower on the move.
We’ve seen Hank throw on the run and move in the pocket. He did so successfully on that last drive against Michigan.

I agree with you that Heck should start at Minny, but it’s a myth that Hank lacks mobility.

Two different qbs, Hank has decent straight line speed. I think the baker mayfield comparisons with heck is a good one, very comfortable throwing on the run, plays loose, doesn’t get rattled.

I dont think it's up in the air at all behind closed doors. Heck is the starter, but trying to be fair to Brown in the media. Lets be real, Hank shouldve been picked numerous times against Iowa State and Michigan and got away with it. Heck gives Iowa a better chance.

Seems obvious Heck is the better qb with higher upside, I do think Hank is a really solid #2 backup and gives you a good chance to win against most teams left on the schedule if Heck were to go down to injury. If you look at it that way, the qb situation is better than it’s been in a long time.

It's extremely rare for any QB to get pulled outside of injury or a blowout, so I'd be shocked to see more than 1 QB play while the game is still in doubt.

It would not surprise me if Hank starts at Minny

One school of thought is that a starter doesn’t lose his spot due to injury. Another says that when two players are close in ability, you go with the hot hand.

With 27+ years of history with KF, I’m betting it’s the former and Hank starts…assuming he’s healthy enough to make all the throws.

Playing 2 qb's, both transfers, means you don't have one qb. Iowa does not owe either them playing time. We should be favored in most if not all of remaining games and the qb shuffle could completely derail our chances at the playoff, IMHO.

I see a fire when Heck is in. I see him locked in with a calm intensity. There is an intangible that I sense reading body language and a small set of results. I do not think Heck got the same opportunities as Hank early in the season. By the time he was in, the game dynamics and personnel were different. Our O was completely stagnant against ISU, UM, and OSU and it looked like all Iowa offense since 2017. With Heck in, I see the true promise of Lester’s approach in action. 12-12 vs UNI, as so many use as a counterpoint, is not as impressive to me. It’s a good streak against anyone but I am not making decisions based on that. It is clearly an outlier. To me, it makes sense to play Heck and see if the momentum continues.

Long six weeks plus potential of a B1GCC game then play off shortly thereafter so start Heck and let Brown heal 100% in case Heck goes down for any reason so you have a healthy qb.

i agree with these sentiments and also would like to see heck continue for now. that said, going back to the first time padilla played for us taking over for petras...he brought a confident crispness that made the entire offense execute smoothly. but in later appearances this turned out to be a brief mirage. perhaps scouting or other shortcomings neutralized whatever it was that impressed early and petras turned out more serviceable.
