So what is the protocol at your office when food is brought in for the office, say for like a potluck lunch, a vendor bringing in food, etc.? Once lunch has been completed and there are leftovers, are the leftovers fair game for you to do what you want with (within reason, not like taking whole *** trays of food for yourself) such as take a plate home, or is it supposed to all stay at the office for people to have exclusively at work?

At my current job it's if food was brought to be shared with the office it has to stay at the office, which I've never heard it being like that anywhere else. Even if it's a potluck and you pay for the food yourself you aren't supposed to take it home. Like every time someone brings in food we're throwing out some of it that no one eats because a lot of them won't eat leftovers but I can't take some of it home to eat instead even if I paid or it?

My job is a bunch of filthy animals. I’m not sure anyone would care if the office said food must stay in the office. Plus everyone eats at their desks all the time anyway with various types of food anyhow.

Nothing wrong with taking a reasonable plate home with you.

I even go further and since I buy the honey baked ham, I make them take off almost all the meat for their to go plates, and take the ham bone home to make a pot of soup beans with.

I work at a community college and most extra food is given to students, or a call goes out to all staff to come grab a plate/to go box. We don’t waste any food.

I have never heard of an office not allowing people to take their own food or food brought in, I wonder what happened in the past for your work to do that?

Depends on if there is a second shift. We would always put it in the fridge for them. Now if no 2nd shift, I say take it home!

Makes me not even want to participate in the future. I’m not going to pay for food for the office just to throw some of it away when it goes bad because I can’t take it home. I’ve got better ways to waste money than that.

Probably means you are working alongside people who used to take home whole trays of the best food other people made before they got smacked down for it.

It's basically a "knives out" free for all at my office. Some folks have been hospitalized. Boss says it culls the weak.
