No confirmation anywhere that I saw. It’s just some frustrated milkman with access to AI, although anything is possible when you’re rich!

If you’re Elko making $958K/month how hard is it to say

“I don’t know what our fans are saying online but I’m sure they’re not happy because I’m not either…. Next question. “
I think his buyout after this year is like $50M, so I can get how hard it'd be to resist the temptation to piss off the fanbase and dare them to fire you when they are bitching.

Nobody is going to go there. They are insane
There will always be people willing to go get paid mid 8 figures to fail at a job. They'd be able to get people to take that job even if it didn't legitimately have the resources to win a national championship.

Now they are probably not going to get the top two or three hottest name coaches unless there is just very little competition in a hiring cycle, but they will get solid coaches to take the job. But everybody is making crazy reaches for coaches because the hire/fire cycle is so short. How the hell did it get to be normal for a relatively top tier job to have to overpay a guy that has had two good seasons as a head coach? You basically knew nothing about Elko's ability to sustain a program after going 9-4 and then 7-5 in two years at Duke.

Sounds like a great retirement plan to me!

I thought this was funny & spot on from AI. Why does A&M underachieve with the most money?

When you drop a modern, 18-to-22-year-old football player or a high-level assistant coach into that culture, that pressure cooker, it creates a bizarre psychological dynamic.

The expectations are astronomically high, but the institutional patience is zero. The moment a coach like Mike Elko faces adversity, the bizarrely intense booster networks start meddling, the fanbase panics, and coaches begin making "safe" survival hires (like promoting Wiggins) rather than running the program like a cold, calculating corporate enterprise.

Texas A&M is a military academy masquerading as a modern SEC powerhouse, funded by billionaires who treat the football team like a status symbol. It is a spectacular, captivating soap opera—and as long as that "weird" institutional culture prioritizes rigid tradition over pure, cutthroat football efficiency, they will continue to be the most expensive underachievers in the country.

He could always blame it on AI. Or at least have said they could pound sand.
