The UF game saved Beamer's job...

Unless Arkansas beats us, and that is highly unlikely, this season will be no worse than 4-8. I still think we win 6, maybe 7 if the stars align. Losing to Tennessee and UGA is expected and won't be held against Beamer. aTm and OU are very winnable games. Win both of those and Arkansas and we are at 6 wins. A win over a very mediocre Clemson team gets us to 7 wins and all is forgiven for Beamer.

WAIT TIL NEXT YEAR!!!

For now. If we come out and get plastered by UT, the UF game will be dismissed as an aberration.

If we beat UT, he's safe. If we lose that one, I think his job status is back up in the air.

I still think the dividing line is a 6-6 season. Beat arky and 2 of a&m, ou and clemson, and hes golden.

Anything less than 6 wins and we should be embarrassed if we keep him.
I think we have a slim path to 4-4 in conference play, which seemed unthinkable a week ago. Honestly, 4-4 around here and you're safe indefinitely.

Well, 4-4 with two patsies and you dont even need the clemson game to have 6 wins. I agree, you could do 6 wins a year and probably retire here.

To be brutally honest, my ideal situation is we go 6-6 and play in a bowl against who I don't care. Sellers says he's gone and Woods gets the start. It's not that I don't like Sellers, I just think this could be better for everyone involved. Anyway, this is what I am cheering on at this point. Six wins is still a long way away.

Pessimistic me: UF was a fluke as they didn't take us seriously. We won't win another game.

Optimistic me: Sellers has finally shaken off Shula's coaching and we go on a run and win the rest of our games including an OT win over UGA.

Realistic me: we beat OU, A&M and Clemson and go 6-6.

I have no idea why Lurker and all of his accounts are so obsessed with Shane Beamer at the moment.

With his big buyout, the focus should be on offensive and defensive coaches through this year and probably at least next as well.

That's what the AD, BOT and any reasonable football fans are doing.

As stated before, Head coaches are largely recruiting and donor mouthpieces in this day and age.

While in the world would you throw $50mil at a regime change right now?

His recruiting has been good.

Everyone likes Briles at the moment.

OL is doing a great job with a new coach. Same with RB.

White has been a good DC overall and the defense seems to be improving.

We'd like more Ws and there could be a trend change on the horizon.

Leave the napkin math/daily speculation of nonsense to Lurker & Co.

That's what they do best, they've been doing it for decades, and they are never, ever remotely correct. :)

I agree, a 4-4 in conference was not thinkable a just after losing to Kentucky, but let's see how the Gamecocks handle the success with Tennessee before we go there. Hopefully the team will build upon this win over Florida and beat the Vols, go gamecocks!

Still in the Top 10. Dropped from 3rd to 6th.

Clickbait that Lurker's family of BOTs love. Writers don't pay the buyout.

What's the better option at this point, replace a coordinator or position coach for pocket change or get rid of Beamer for $50mil and have the next "he's the guy" coach bring in his brand new staff? Especially if Sellers sticks around.

Beamer is here in 2027 unless he loses the rest of the games in grand fashion. And even then I'm not sure he's gone.

I think the odds are better with Arkansas than Oklahoma, 6-6

Donati probably wants to get his guys in there and get rid of Tanner's failures. If I was betting I would guess that the FB and MBB coaches will be gone as soon as he can get rid of them. His job depends on winning in MBB and FB, I doubt he is putting his AD career in Beamers hands.

Beamer was never going to be fired.

Some posters feel very confident about that. That doesn't say much for our program though. How many other SEC programs would tolerate 3 out 4 losing seasons? (Losing season this year being the only way he gets let go)

It despends on the timing (buyout) and what's going on with the staff that actually is doing the coaching.

You're obsessed over a poster boy and willing to spend $50mil to make him go away.

Not smart.

This is true. The big issue for Donati is that he was saddled with all 3 major sports needing new coaches along with silly buyouts at the same time.

Shane could put the decision off a year, giving Donati extra time to gather cash.

What is Shane's decision again? I missed that part. 🙂

Shane needs two more wins and he'll get a year extension and the buyout will sit exactly where it is today.

He gets 4 more and he'll get a two-year bump -- especially if he closes with a 3rd win in CowTown.

You might not ever make it through Shane, Botman.

Especially if the AD keeps the funds flowing in like they did last year.

He might end up the Stoops of USC.

Better start focusing on assistants you believe might not make it through the next game so you can continue to dream. :)

I like the optimism, but I’m not ready to count those wins just yet! Tennessee and Georgia are tough, but Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Clemson aren’t games you can overlook either. At some point, Beamer has to prove he can finish strong. Hopefully, next year won’t be another waiting game

I think Sellers likely comes back next year no matter what. He will get paid a lot of money to lead SC to another mediocre season without the pressure of trying to make an NFL roster.

His job depends on making sure the number on the bottom line isn't in parentheses. Firing two major sport coaches in one year would make that happening much more difficult.

ADs are not coaches or cheerleaders, they are administrators, managers and bean counters. Unless Beamer ends up 3-9, he isn't going anywhere.

Why is OU winnable?
Because they have not been a very good offensive football team all season and Mateer has been a disaster. Their defense is good, especially their DL, but their offense has been awful. I think Texas took them so lightly, and the Red River Rivalry is a big rivalry game, that OU caught Texas napping. Sark has shown an amazing ability to **** the bed against teams he should beat.
