I would imagine with the contract he will be set for life even if he gets fired.
He’s guaranteed 70 million dollars for his 8 year contract. And every year he’s still there he gets another $1MM bonus. And don’t forget that he’s already likely earned around $30-40MM in his career.

As long as he utilizes good financial planners and lives a nice but not extravagant lifestyle, he will have developed generational wealth by signing this contract no matter how poorly he does as a coach there.

Yeah he can't quite live the luxurious lifestyle as your average poster here but I can't see him going hungry as long as he sticks to Wednesday night Ramen night.

if he can recruit the Penn State footprint, which I have to believe is very large and deep, he can do relatively well there (but prbl not well enough to keep their spoiled fan base happy)

I thought I read on here that most of Penn State's roster from last year either Followed Franklin or went elsewhere. does anybod know how many of their entire roster is holdovers? Probably not too many.

Campbell made Iowa State [somewhat of] a winner. Give him a bit more time in the Big Ten and I'm sure he'll end up doing well. The guy finds quality ball players.

Firing Franklin was a mistake. He was having a rough start last year but won 10 games in each of the previous 3 seasons. He took PSU to the national semi-final in 2024.
He couldn't win the big game which cost him in the long run, but it was a knee jerk reaction. I do think Campbell could succeed there, but he was way down on their list of candidates.

Campbell in over his head in the B1G. He won two games vs Iowa while at ISU with three months to prep for that game every year. He’ll be fired at the end of the 28 season.

It's all about recruiting,.. this was never going to be his season.
I won't disagree about recruiting...obviously essential. However, psu fans, and everyone else thought this could be a playoff team, not a 3-loss team in early October.

Their fans are already unhappy!

True. They had a VERY favorable Big Ten schedule, and a clear road to the CFP.............until they didn't. That would have certainly helped his recruiting down the road to make the CFP in his first year.

I think one of the major factors is the Big Ten actually plays Defense, and Campbell is not used to that on a week to week basis. To his credit, Iowa State was one of the few teams in the Big 12 that actually could play some decent Defense.

Penn State has a ton of advantages from a size, money and history perspective. So he'll likely do just fine in the long run, but you're always going to be up against the behemoth that is Ohio State. Then Michigan on occasion and now Indiana out of the blue. Oregon's Nike cash train, USC with a real Coach could be a major concern too. Lot of roadblocks to finish with 2 losses or less.

It really doesn't matter where you Coach these days relative to money at the P4 level. By the time you're a Head Coach candidate, you SHOULD have plenty of money in the bank already. There are a LOT of things more important than money, unless you don't have any at all of course. 🙂
