It’s been a while. Looks like they went through a really dismal period in the late 90s. Wonder if Morgan seeing the talent dry up had anything to do with the move to Starkville.

After Bubba Davis left in the early 90’s they went thru some pretty lean years including one year with Tom Goode Jr who played at WPHS and MSU and the son of legend Tom Goode.

High School football is tough to maintain. You can’t recruit, you’re basically dependent on who was spreading their legs 15-17 years ago.

Yep, we played them during that era and always whipped their asss. Our coaches were always shocked because they just weren't used to it.

Another one people don't realize was that Noxubee County was pure trash until MC Miller came back and got some assistants who knew what they were doing. Been good every since.

Crazy, they just beat Tupelo last year - who’s been steamrolling everyone last few years.

My wife went to WP (with BFW). She barely remembers winning any football games.

Last 20 years have produced 9 State Championships.
Not sure what’s going on this year other than getting beat by some pretty good teams.

Bryan Foods closed 20 years ago.
Lost about 1300 jobs but I dont see how that’s made this year WPHS team 0-6
Yokahama and Navistar and a couple
Of others have helped to replace some but not all of those jobs I don’t think.

Somewhat similar to Meridian and South Panola. Family trees cycled through. With South Panola, the country boys from the southern part of the county that fed into the program eventually dried up as so many moved away after getting the chance to go to college. Seems like there has been a bit of a revival of football at SP but other programs in their region got good. Meridian went through a similar transition as families that were feeding into Meridian moved into some of the other school districts and actually diluted the talent at all the area schools.
But Tupelo didnt split their high school by neighborhoods. They maintained ONE high school for a fairly large city.
West Point will probably cycle back up in a few years after some of their best former players reproduce.

Trust me when I tell you this. That's an absolutely false statement. Happens all the time and Tupelo has been cherry picking kids from area schools the last few years. Just ask the folks from Nettleton and Shannon. Btw, JJ Hill was not from Tupelo, rather Booneville. This is why Tupelo has became a juggernaut.

Correct, Saltillo too. 3 starters "tranferred" in this year. They do a lot in baseball too
