during the bye week? That will leave us at 2-6, with little hope of any improvement over last season. I like Beamer. But how long do we stick with him (Ted Lasso charm and all), if we continue to tank?

Wouldn't a loss saturday just put us at 2-4?

But your question is a good one. Imo, no. The bot does nothing. It would be the perfect time (with the bye week) to hand over to the interim coach. But I doubt it happens.

I hope not and I hope the BOT stays the course with Beamer after the season. While it may seem we are really bad, we are actually half the way where we need to be, upgrade our DC and will are a much better team. Go Gamecocks!
I agree. As dispiriting at this season has been, the BOT has to look at total picture. With Briles, the offense has been largely squared away. The OL is pretty well fixed. We just have to fix the anomalous defensive collapse.

That's easier and cheaper than firing Beamer and starting over from scratch.

Stay the course with Beamer for now- It's the best of bad options. Overhaul the defense; heads should roll - you can't survive in the SEC giving up 40-50 points per game. Next year there may be better choices available.

Probably not prudent to fire White and roll the dice on a new DC. We would not hire any proven DC to replace White and he has been solid up until this year. Probably just have to hit the portal hard like we did for OL talent last portal.

White didn't suddenly forget how to coach defense.

Plenty of good DCs went to places with crappy rosters and got smoked.

Like EJ used to say...."you can't teach speed"....how is our team speed?

No. The BOT won't do anything and isn't even thinking in those terms. I know one BOT member. This is not even a topic of discussion.

They will ride out the season. The AD will evaluate things and make a decision- and likely will give Shane one more season no matter what.

and we will lose to Florida Saturday and it won't be pretty. Florida does some things well that we have problems with, especially with our defensive injuries.

I think we can upgrade our DC, I think we can hire better by hiring a DC who can make adjustments. I think a significant upgrade at DC and we will be an upper tier SEC team. Firing Beamer and starting all over again would be the wrong course and action in my view. We could hire an awesome DC for a fraction of the cost to fire Beamer. Beamer made some great hires this offseason, while i think he got an assist from Donati, I think he can see what a massive difference these three coaches have made to the offense, now go do the same for the defense!

this is true, but ask yourself, is White really that great, can we hire better, I say we can. if you look at Beamer's record when losing at the half, 2-26, that screams the fact this staff could not make halftime adjustments. I lay the blame 100% on Clayton White for that absolutely embarrassing loss to ATM last season. Eveyrone seems to be blaming Beamer on that, but it was White's defense or lack of that lost that game, there are others to note as well. People want to blame the officials for the loss to LSU, nope, that was on Clayton White my fellow Gamecock fans. We can do better!

I am not usually a fire a guy top person. Coaches have families and people who care deeply about them. Hell, even the players often care deeply about them. However, there are 8 million reasons to move on. I truly think SB is a great person, better than most of us. But he is not a great football coach. He makes strategic mistake after strategic mistake. The straw the broke the camels back was when asked during the most recent press conf, "what can you do to fix these problems?" his response to paraphrase was "its hard and I am not sure what else we should do." That is the point when its time to move on. That is not the answer of a winner. That is the answer of a pleaser.

How are we going to get an awesome DC to come to coach at a place where the head coach's seat is scorching hot?

Yes, you’re right. We’d be 2-4. My math was a bit fuzzy there. Age. Lack of sleep. Insufficient coffee. Or just Gamecock delirium. I say it was one of these, or a combination of them all. But I appreciate the feedback on the topic. I believe the consensus is that we stay the course with Beamer.

The BoT will do nothing regarding Beamer win or lose. But there's lots of other items (probably few regarding athletics) they will address.

This recently report that came out from The State citing university source stating that is very unlikely that Coach Beamer is dismissed this season is something that the administration wanted leaked out. The University of South Carolina is telling the public indirectly there will be no change in the head coach this season.

The BOT feels like they have a good athletic director in charge who is a very smart business-minded person and they are comfortable leaving things in his hands. I would not disagree with that assessment based on what I know.

The current board is the most unlikely we've had in many decades to get involved in athletics like that because they are aware that it never worked well in the past.

our DC is very well thought of and his unit has been the strength of the team under Beamer's tenure. Right now, he's got a problem with a lack of talent in the secondary.

They failed in going out and getting a high level secondary transfer last year but I can't blame the DC on that. That would be Shane's overall responsibility. There is no way in the world the DC would have not have wanted a more talented secondary player. But the decision to pay for a transfer is in Beamer's hands, not the defensive coordinator.

Firing him would be seen as absolutely stupid and would not lead any decent DC to come to South Carolina. If you asked 20 head coaches and top DCs- privately- what they think about our DC, they'd all say that he's gone a great job at South Carolin and if the offense had been as settled and good as the defense in the last 5 years, our team would be looked at much more positively than we are now.

Let's look up the road at Clemson. They supposedly got rid of a bum defensive coordinator and went out and hired someone who was seen as elite as a DC (and paid him a lot of money- $2 million this season alone) and they don't seem to be any better on defense than they were under the last guy- and many Clemson fans say they are worse.

So what-we just give the whole defensive staff a pass ?.

Something is not working. Problem is we don't even know what the problem is; apparently even Beamer was unaware- otherwise why would he "promise" fans
we would be knocking on the playoff door this year.

If it is talent- that should have been
addressed in the off season by the defensive staff.

There has to be some accountability.

As for the difficulty of hiring a new DC -many people said the same thing about an offensive coordinator; either way I am confident that Donati could pull that off.
But first-the problem has to be identified.

DC must go if Beamer is retained. Don’t normally support ADs getting involved in assistant coaching decisions but Donati needs to lay down the law on this one!

Disagree, cannot play soft defense and never get off the field on 3rd down. CW defense reliant on turnovers and that is just not a good strategy.

There were also comments that it was leaked on purpose to see if any donors would step up and give a portion of the buyout.

But if this season tanks, and we STILL bring him back? How fast do you think the NIL donations dry up? How many people give any real amount of cash to a staff that we are admitting we are holding onto for another year for no other reason than to let the buyout decrease?

The AD had a prior relationship with him. Does he have a DC out there too?
And, if you're the AD, you DO NOT bring in XYZ coach unless you're hiring him for a dual purpose.

We've already got our HCIW, Briles. Shane knew that too, even if it wasn't said.

There is a wide gulf in giving the defensive staff a pass and firing the defensive coordinator.

The DC isn't going anywhere. The DC has proven to lead the most solid unit we have over the past 4-5 years. Firing him because of one year where they aren't good would be a bad move- and it's not going to happen anyway.

if we did something that stupid (again, we won't) we'd lose the entire defensive staff and also lose the highest rated recruit, a 5 star and ESPN's No. 2 cornerback, on top of everything else.

ANYONE talking as if we need to or should fire the DC is full of crap- and again- it's not happening for good reason.
