I was as ecstatic as everyone else when it briefly looked like Kentucky was adding Mark Mitchell. I didn't disagree with those in the national media and on this board saying it made Kentucky a Top Ten or so team, pre-season.

But part of me even then wondered if the gap was all that great between Mitchell and the other options at four: N'Diaye, whose clips playing high level Euro League ball had blown me away, plus McBride, who also looked really impressive in clips.

Obviously, I'd take Mitchell back in a heartbeat. But no use crying over what might have been.

Mitchell would have been great but he was going to alter the pace at which Kentucky played, and alter the focus of the offense from the perimeter to the paint. Maybe the Cats will play faster now, get up a higher volume of 3-point shots, and build an identity fitted to the personnel more than built around Mitchell.

I know how this will be derided by the usual suspects on this board. I guess we'll have to wait and see if N'Diaye is a giant bust or a very nice fit for the style and pace for which this team is best suited to play with Diallo, Wilkins and Momcilovic on the wings and a mobile center in Moreno.

I agree. My fear with Mitchell (and I would love to still have him) was that the team would be focused with him in the offense and that at some point he would be ruled ineligible. Causing major disruption, which we do not need.

yeah, I wanted him because 19 points a game in SEC is big. But the fact that he wasn't known for his D or rebounding meant that there were 15 fewer shots a game for everyone else and not much help with second chance points. I'm gonna be hopeful and be a believer in McBride and Dye.
