I like Hank Brown. But, I hope he doesn't start this week. Give him 2 weeks to heal for the Minnesota game and also let Hecklinski prove everyone wrong or right and let the debate end there.

I hope Heck gets a full game too. Seems like Hank was put in a better position the first few games.

But I think these QBs really are close, and I would bet a full game of Heck does not make the picture clearer. I feel like Heck is better at processing, but Brown generally has better physical attributes. I expect Heck will play solid and that Brown will resume as the starter against Minnesota.

I've always been of the belief that if an injured "not 100% player" is playing ahead of a fully healthy #2 on a B1G team, the coaches did a horrible job of developing #2 (which we know is not the case). With the speed of the game and skills required at every position, no way an 80% guy (EXCEPT MAYBE the tosu All-Universe WR)) should be out there. But I've held that belief for 60 years and see it contradicted by who the teams play every year so what do I know..

Lester runs the shanahan system.
49ers are led by a short, average arm, quick processing accurate qb who has good pocket presence...purdy. Heck might be more like purdy than brown.

Good point, I saw someone post that it didn’t matter which qb Iowa played for UW to have to prepare for, that’s not true. Hank is more of a drop back passer, Heck you will see more rollouts and throwing on the run. PURDY is a good comparison at least for the type of play calls you should see. THe defense will have to defend Heck with a different approach.

If you watch the play he threw the interception on, that was it. I can’t remember if that was the last throw or not but his arm got twisted up pretty bad badly.
There was a throw to our sideline, the one where the OSU guy got hurt, that Hank's motion just looked really weird. That was after a couple of very inaccurate, should have been easy, passes.

You don't think throwing can further injure a shoulder sprain?
I'm not doc. And could be wrong.

But from what I understand with this particular injury, if there's enough range of motion to be capable of throwing, no further structural damage would be anticipated.

It would pretty much have to be more collision force from a similar angle

I don't believe throwing is something that can cause further structural damage, in this case.

So it's probably going to be more of a case of pain tolerance, and having the range of motion to throw accurately
Maybe not. But throwing wasn't what caused it in the first place. Getting tackled was. And I guarantee he will get tackled on Friday, and that could risk further injury.

"Head coach Kirk Ferentz explicitly stated that it would be "foolish for us to say he's going to be starting" due to a sprained AC joint in Brown's throwing shoulder."

Sounds like the decision has already been made, Hecklinski should be getting the start.

That's my point. The injury was caused by force that came at an unnatural angle. So largely, the duplication of that angle can probably be avoided.

Yes, a continued pounding to the area can cause further damage. But I think what's being explored, is if there's a possibility to get through one more week, before the bye week.

Same with throwing. If the range of motion is good enough to throw, then a degree of healing has already taken place. And a dangerous amount of usage can potentially be avoided with the bye week
