Great weather forecast for Friday. High around 80.
Playoff Update
In and Likely getting a Week 10 Bye- Rochester, SHG, MacArthur, and Jacksonville.
In but Playing Week 10- Chatham and QND.
Out- Lanphier. This week their best chance to not go 0-9.
Extremely Unlikely- Lincoln. Needs to win both Weeks 8 and 9. -293 point differential to-date.
Needs Help- U High. Likely 1-7 going into Week 9 against Springfield. They do have 40 playoff points so a 2-7 record could get them in.
Better than Even- Springfield. A Week 9 win at home against U High would get them their 3rd win.
Looking Favorable- Southeast. Gets a forfeit this week for their 2nd win. Needs to beat Lincoln at home next week for their 3rd.
Lanphier (0-7) at Lincoln (1-6)
Both teams may start a Freshman at QB due to injuries. While Lanphier has lost every game, they have scored twice as many points as the Railers this season. Lincoln scored 40 points Week 1 but has only 13 since then. They got their 1st offensive TD since Week 1 last week against Hillsboro and had another called back on a penalty before ultimately losing 49-7. Lanphier 26 Lincoln 21. Massey: Lincoln 38-28.
Jacksonville (6-1) at U High (1-6)
The Crimsons are averaging 44 points per game, while U High is giving up 44 points a game. U High did score twice on Rochester last week and has a running QB who can also throw fairly well. Jacksonville's big play running attack should be very successful against a struggling Pioneers defense. Jacksonville 57 U High 24. Massey: Jacksonville 45-20.
Springfield (2-5) at MacArthur (6-1)
After back-to-back wins against Lanphier and Southeast, Springfield again had issues with turnovers and penalties that bothered them earlier in the season and lost 37-14 to QND. MacArthur led Chatham 35-7 in the 4th Quarter and then hung on for a 48-35 victory. It was their first win over an opponent with a winning record. The Generals had multiple long TDs in the game, even as lead RB Cayden Brown is still battling an injury and played sparingly. MacArthur 44 Springfield 13. Massey: MacArthur 42-18.
QND (4-3) at Chatham (4-3)
Both teams are in the playoffs but will most likely be playing Week 10. The winner may get a home game that week, while the loser will probably go on the road. After a tough Week 1 loss to Decatur St Teresa, QND has steadily improved and is only allowing 16 points per game. Chatham has surrendered 113 points the last two weeks in losses to Rochester and MacArthur. They did rally from a 35-7 4th Quarter deficit last week to get within 42-35 in the final seconds at Decatur. QND would like to control time of possession and keep Chatham's offense off the field. Expect Chatham to start fast but for this game to also go down to the final drive. QND 26 Chatham 23. Massey: Chatham 35-18. For whatever reason, the Massey algorithm has loved the Titans this season.
SHG (6-1) at Rochester (7-0)
The Game of the Week. Last year, these teams played twice in Weeks 9 and 12. Both games went down to the final play, and the total point difference was 9. Each team returns many of their key players from last year. SHG features QB Cam Brinkman, RB Mikey Groesch, and WR Andrew Wolters. Rochester has QB JP Leonard, RB Evrim Tabag, and WR Nate Swaney. The programs know each other as well as any in the area. Regardless of the season or team's records, I always expect this game to be close and to be decided by a handful of plays. Rochester 35 SHG 28. Massey: Rochester 40-22.
