Don't have the link but on the 7 mountains podcast today Jones said he talked to Campbell and the staff said everything is fixable.

I trust Jones maybe more than anyone so I consider this good news.

I don’t doubt Steve was told it’s fixable. My question is if the staff has truly found real solutions or if they are simply projecting a facade of optimism. I hope it’s the former.

First fix, bench #8 on defense. Problem is, the guy behind him isn't playable either.

That is just funny (that anyone would find that meaningful).

Nothing against Steve Jones - who does a real nice job (IMO) at what he does.

I think this team can still get to 7-8 wins. Having your best player and most dynamic athlete back in a few weeks should help the offense come up with a better showing than they've had the past two weeks. The schedule is still weak, no matter how bad this team stinks.

It was unreasonable to think that this team was a playoff team in the preseason. I myself am also guilty of this. Mass departures, no signing class, hodgepodge transfer class. Half the team is made up of a middling BIG12 team from a season ago.

Year 3 is when I'd think you'd need to see some serious progress from Campbell. That seems like a reasonable amount of time for Campbell to have gotten situated into the BIG and what it takes to be successful at PSU. We're going to certainly need NIL to pick up though - no matter who the coach is, if we're not bringing in talent, we're going to be behind the true class of college football.

I agree it is fixable. However, it will not be this year and not with this roster. Campbell has a 3 year project on his hands. The overall talent level mirrors the sanction era rosters. I am a supporter of Campbell and believe he can get things fixed over time and with some financial assistance from Kraft.

Supposedly the staff now knows about the Goodman run/pass tell. It was one of the most egregious tells you will see on football and shame on the staff for not finding it. The staff learned a serious lesson to self scout that stuff. Shame on Clanton himself.

Franklin brought in way better talent (that was always competitive with the top of the b1g and Nationally) and did it with a smaller NIL budget than Campbell currently has. You Franklin-Hate now excuse makers for Krafty The Clown and Campbell are so full of crap and ridiculousness, it is sadly ironic.

Fixable in 3 years is slower than anyone else given the portal and Nil, especially when a large chunk have been in his system for years

Posters here aren’t living in reality. Reality is PSU is headed towards bottom of big ten permanently.

NIL will be all that matters and the teams with the ability to buy elite talent will thrive. All you PSU fans are cheap lets be honest and NIL is trash.

The AD is awful, the staff is mid with young coordinators who are unproven.

I would have liked for them to give Franklin the bigger budget that Campbell is supposedly getting and see where things would go from there.

Front sports page article today in the Sarasota paper is about how Penn State has become a team that is totally out of character compared to what Penn State football is known for - hard nosed defense and good, solid offense (notice I didn’t say great). It was from a Useless A Today sports writer.

He must have been reading the McAndrew board because he states everything that has been pointed out in various threads. Mainly because of the AD fumbling the coaching hire that left Penn State bereft of talent and loss of an entire recruiting class before the new hire could do anything.

CMC had no idea of the level of play and talent in the B10 and now he is over his head having thought that his ISU players could fill in the roster holes and be the same caliber as other B10 teams. Penn State lost a lot to graduation or defection to other schools and even CJF would have had difficulty in the B10 this year with what was left on the squad had he stayed and not lost players to VT. Also, Becht is not a B10 level QB, basically a mediocre lesser conference (B12) talent, and it shows.

How is it that Chesney has UCLA not-only competitive, but has turned them around in year 1. Ditto Franklin an VoTech..... Then of course you had what Cignetti has done at Indiana. This utter nonsense that it takes 3 years to make PSU even marginally competitive (when they were already consistently competitive and a national contender with the top of the b1g under Franklin) with a larger NIL budget than Franklin ever had is just such ridiculous nonsense and bs, it isn't even funny. Clearly, this is what Krafty The Clownboy promised us with his "Championship Football"..... and "Excellence at the highest level"........ [insert eyeroll - zero accountability for Kraft who deserves to be making minimum wage rather than the multi-millions he's pulling down, but Kraft is going to hold the 2nd Winningest Coach in PSU history "accountable" via firing??? What absolute rubbish and bureaucratic, hack, empty-suit garbage. And Alumnus are supposed to financially support this bs???].

Cignetti has had the success he has had by using a simple formula. He goes out and hires 23 year old good players from other programs. They then play against 20 year olds on other teams. He is also a good talent evaluator. That trick will be hard to do going forward as it has been exposed.

None of the other schools you mentioned had a mass exodus of their roster. Yes, self inflicted by Kraft. But we dragged our feet so long, our roster got picked over by Franklin and a few other schools and we lost an entire recruiting class. The roster essentially got nuked and we HAD TO supplement with ISU.

Agin, if NIL doesn't catch up, we could be in trouble. But judging Campbell because of what Kraft did before he got here, isn't realistic.

Is Deluca back and wearing No. 8?
Is Deluca back and wearing No. 8?
I get your point on Dom, but Ebel is something else. One play he actually filled the correct hole however, that NW running back basically ran him over. Also, everyone knows this, but don't look at the tape of Marcus Neal, it's just as bad. These were supposed to be older ISU guys that had played a lot of football. I guess experience doesn't overcome a talent deficiency.

Some good points - but this (above) is out of whack.

PSU's 2026 Schedule?
Its a schedule that a "mid" Big 12 team would expect to win at least 9. And I think everyone had reason to expect (whether it was true or not) that PSU 2026 would be AT LEAST a "mid" Big 12 team.

There is no way on God's green earth that Campbell is (or has any reason to be) surprised or "in over his head" relative to the talent he has seen on the opposite side of the field so far.
Not even close.
Wisconsin???? With, among other things, maybe the worst P4 QB in the country?
Northwestern???? Not only "Northwestern", but a Northwestern playing primarily backups along their OL (due to injury)?

And yet, PSU was embarrassed by both of them.
Hopefully, that **** is gonna' change in a hurry. I expect it will, but if not there are absolutely zero (as in -275 degrees C) excuses.

What underclassmen are available to plug that gap? F the nil money. Pay them to sit and don't worry that it was a mistake to play them

That's the problem, they have Tatsch and that's it. Brezina is another ISU guy who barely plays now. There are no others. Amare Campbell was serviceable, but wanted too much money so they let him walk.

I hate to pile on Becht but I think a mistake was made at the QB position They say he is 6'1" but I would be surprised if he is 5'10". He is a 60% passer that is was a mediocre starter on a mediocre team. The faster you move on the faster the things will change.

I am just as upset as everyone else about the results thus far, but speculation on what should occur is useless. Campbell will be here for at least three or four years. We don’t have the money or the A.D. to go through that transition again. Unfortunately, Krafty the clown has a very large buyout as well, and I would not expect to see his termination either. Krafty completely screwed up the coaching search, and then allowed Franklin’s leftover minions to pick apart the recruiting class. Campbell had to replace 70 players and is missing a real 2026 class through no fault of his own. We’re in a total rebuild unfortunately. I still think we can see progress the rest of the year, but it will be tough.

I have to see it to believe it. Just did some research on the recruiting classes of ISU. They continually ranked around 50th whereas PSU was around 15th. Looked at the transfers too. Infusion of 3 stars, and by the looks of things, coaching them up is not as easy as saying the words.

But I certainly hope it's fixable. Like to see the DT's rise up. The UCLA guys certainly should be motivated to play USC. The environment will be good unless they come out and get pushed around the first few drives.
