Now we lose the little games too.
Like James blew a 14 point lead against an unranked team at home this week. Pretty sure he lost some "little games" too...

Why not give Campbell 2 years to build a team? The angst is pathetic honestly. We were never competing for a title this year regardless of who the coach was.

Patience shouldn't be this challenging for a base that hasn't won a title in 40 years.

Not enjoying the last two weeks, but I think Kraft is an arrogant bully, with no skills for being an athletic director at a big ten school. The other difference for me vs the dark years( I was very positive about the team back then) is we now have paid mercenaries. So either we are overpaying or can’t evaluate talent. This is rooting for student athletes who have pieces of a common experience. Rocco Becht is getting $1- $2M to take one online class and play football. For a fifth year senior to have such little ability to connect on a 15 yard route, or be unable to lead a receiver 30+ yards downfield is a total miss for the whole program
Becht needs to earn his money. No argument here. People can't go off the deep end and demand Campbell's firing or Kraft's. Not happening now and any logical person would understand this. We have a sample size of two games. Imagine getting hired by a company and your first couple of meetings are rough. You're a month into the gig and they can you. Could it happen? Yeah but it would be total bs.

Have no problem with Campbell not being fired, but you're off your rocker and haven't been paying attention if you think the empty-suit, hack Clownboy Kraft doesn't deserve to be fired.... how he still has a job is a joke and the current administration has some nerve asking Alumns for more $$$ and financial support while this joker still has a job. Complete nonsense that Kraft doesn't deserve to be fired.
For what? The football team has had two bad games? If we cared about hoops then he would be on the verge of getting canned but he is saved by the fact that our wrestling program is an absolute juggernaut and no one cares if our hoops team can't beat high school teams and draws less people than high school teams.

Kraft is tied to the Campbell hire and we don't know how that is going to go yet. Football is the king of everything at PSU and by a very very wide margin. We certainly don't know after two games where this will end up with Campbell at the helm. Yeah this season is a disappointment most likely but it is the long game that is important. What does the program look like in 4 years? I'll give you this...if there is little improvement at the end of 2 years with Campbell then I could see Kraft getting canned especially if our NIL resources have not grown to enable us to compete with the elite teams.

Kraft has only been at PSU a month??? Huh??? Wha??? Krafty The Clownboy is the progenitor of this entire devaluation of the PSU Football Franchise - the fact that you think he shouldn't be held accountable for his disastrous management and decision-making, especially given the absurd amounts of money he is being paid for destroying PSU's football franchise, is quite telling.

What are you talking about "we don't know anything" - we know that this is one of the most uncompetitive football teams that PSU has ever put on the field. You going to tell me we don't know anything after USC takes their turn drilling us? So you're telling me that we can downgrade the program from being annually competitive nationally and in the b1g to being completely uncompetitive on both sides of the LOS to the point where we could easily go 0-fer the rest of the year as uncompetitive as we look (this defense is slow, soft and bad -- and the offense isn't any better, care to guess how badly we've been outscored the last 6 quarters? So if we go 0-fer in the b1g and look utterly uncompetitive in doing it, we should wait and see if we can become more uncompetitive in 2027 and 2028??? All you're doing is making the next ADs job harder and harder and harder.

What's perplexing to me is that obvious troll threads from regional trolls (Pitt, WVU, VoTech) are allowed to remain on this board.

On the old Tom Board, these would have been purged in their infancy. Something's different. 🤷‍♀️
The clowns were savaged by every legit poster on FFA, now they're here. BJmtnitwit, knickslyin69, phonyPhil, Laffybear, Loado...were all ferociously beaten down and run off.

As soon as this schedule came out when Franklin was still the coach, most just assumed this year would be a CFP run. It was by far the easiest Big Ten schedule we could possibly draw. Now, even you admitted in another thread that 2-7 in the Big Ten is a possibility.

People calling for a firing 5 games in are useless...honestly. They aren't dealing with reality and just want to babble online and openly admit how GD stupid they are with these comments. Whether or not MC is the long term solution, nobody knows, but we do know he isn't getting fired after 5 games.

Hilarious to see so many pom-pom wavers now coming out with "Well, NO ONE could have expected ISU (East) to come from the weak Big 12 and compete in the big bad Big Ten"

LMAO
ISU (east) / PSU is not competing against the Big Ten - they are competing against the 9 Big Ten teams on their schedule - which is pathetically soft.

ISU (west) of 2025 won 8 games (the team everyone said PSU took the best players from).
Their schedule was VERY soft, indeed - but included beating a ranked Big Ten team (Iowa - no world-beater, but a better team than any team PSU will play, or beat, this year) and included another win over a ranked team (TCU) along with a win over another team that was ranked at the time they played, but actually rather crappy (K State).

ISU (east)/PSU's 2026 schedule is WEAKER - clearly - than even ISU (west) 2025 schedule.
And if you have "the best" of ISU (west) 2025, plus whatever talent remained from PSU 2025, playing against a weaker schedule, how could you NOT expect to do at least as well as ISU (west) of 2025?

But the pathetic excuses have just come FLOODING down in recent weeks (after all the pom-pom waving in the offseason).

PSU 2026 may yet get to 8 - maybe 9?, 10 is probably realistically out of the picture - wins this year. Seriously, the schedule is that weak. Obviously they won't get there playing like they did the last 2 weeks - but NO program can be truly that laughably bad all season long. Right?

Obviously, they already pissed away two "should have been" wins (to Wisconsin and Northwestern). But between the 3 payday cupcakes, Rutgres, Maryland, and Purdue there remain 6 cheese puff wins - and none of Minnesota, Michigan, Washington, and USC are exactly daunting (as of today - despite how horribly PSU has performed - those games would probably all be ranked as more or less toss-ups).
They just need to get their "heads-and-asses" reoriented in the proper direction - preferably before some of their equally disappointing opponents reorient theirs'.
Can they do that? Time will tell.

But there is no reason that a competitive program couldn't have reasonably been expected - especially in this day and age - to have at LEAST a reasonable shot at "10-2" with the schedule PSU had in front of them this year. Even if 1/2 the roster was imports from ISU (west).
It is what it is - thus far "what it is" has been a **** show.
Perhaps/hopefully that will improve.

Actually rational fans all along stated we have no idea what the roster will look like on the field and those that called it an "easy schedule" now look so GD foolish for just looking at a schedule and counting 10 wins. Like somehow a roster that lost close to 50 players will be the same and carry weight the following year. Absolute morons, now way around it. Now they are all upset and bothered, most of which that spent years crying for BGJ to get fired and babbling how easy the schedule is for MC. IU struggled to get by NW at home.....them beating down on PSU was no fluke. Anyone that watched that IU/NW game kind of knew what was coming. NW beats PSU 8 or 9 times out of 10 and if you back up and play that again.

Saying a schedule is weak with zero self awareness (something many people lack) of how good or bad your roster is and proclaiming all of it as fact ahead of a game played is hysterical. This roster currently is a bottom 5 roster in the B1G. No RB's, No DE's, average DT's, average OL. QB that is struggling.....more L's are coming and 6-6 is really possible and if anyone is still pretending to be shocked if it does occur, that is on them.

If you want to pretend you're an ISU expert on all their players or you know how this would unfold.....awesome. Dunning Kruger runs this world, but some of us can all see the people who are completely FOS and just babble loudly.

LMAO

The "strength" of a schedule is 100% independent of the team playing that schedule.

The fact that PSU's schedule is pathetically and historically weak is in no way dependent on who is playing that schedule - whether it be Rutgres, or OSU, or PSU.

The thing that changes is "how many games would the team playing that pathetic schedule be expected to win". Obviously, any team even approaching "good" would have been looking at 10-ish as the O/U for wins vs the 2026 PSU slate.
Maybe PSU will still get (near) that mark - time will tell.
But it is what it is.

NW was picked 50th in the nation and 14th in the conference.....PSU was ranked in the top 20 and in the top 5-6 in the conference. Tell me again how preseason guesses are the end all and be all when it comes to SOS and rankings. PSU was picked #2 in the nation last year and that was with returning a great deal of the actual roster. The easy schedule only makes sense if your team is close to good as they were advertised......and they are not. LMAO, people thinking this stuff is binary and not fluid at all.....tracks though for some. NW is an example of the SOS going out the door before the season until the game is actually played on the field.

10-15 years ago maybe you could state this nonsense as fact. There is so much turnover now and the fact that IU is 10 times the program we are currently kind of tells you that your ANTIQUATED opinions don't align with the current state of the game. NW and IU > PSU and UM currently.....but tell me more about how the SOS before a season starts is the gospel.

Why did so many people choose a good record? Because it was July and August and all we heard as usual was how good we were going to be. How many times did some here say let’s see what happens throughout September before anointing us the greatest. Especially after the first 3 games when so many were saying we are going all the way. Then we lost Granville, no big deal, then Howard, no big deal, next man up. lol. Losing your best 2 players on the team and each side of the ball can’t be made up.

saying all of that. Give Campbell time to get this team going. Support the team and stop saying you are boycotting this or that or pulling funds etc.

Whiteout needs to be full. At least the fans can enjoy a beautiful Saturday in the fall with each other, isn’t that what it is all about? Then a great fun atmosphere for the game.
I will be driving the 10 hours each way as usual to do all of this. Oh and I will play golf as well.

This board is now infested with all the people declaring the end and funeral for Penn State football. What's worse is in their ignorant mind BGJ has turned into Bill Walsh or Don Shula or Nick Saban or Bear Bryant. I won't say JoePa because these same entitled people probably don't like him because he took us through the Dark Years. What's even worse is the petulant glee that people have.....Naaa, naaa, naaa, I told you so! We are worse than with BGJ and Campbell and Kraft need to be fired.

Calm down people and get rational or just shut up for the love of God.

Am I disappointed in the way we have started? Of course. Does the team look soft, unathletic and uninspiring? Yes. Should Campbell be fired? No. Should Campbell be fired if he loses every B10 game this season? No. Should Kraft be fired? No. Do we need to show improvement this season? Yes.

No, I am not making excuses for Campbell. This start is horrible and I don't think anyone including him had in their wildest nightmare bingo cards that we would lose to Wisky in that fashion at home then get drubbed by NW.

Here is some perspective and thoughts and you can ignore it or not.

-We don't have the talent we thought we did. Why did most people including me predict 9-3 and maybe 10-2? We thought the ISU guys would translate over and some others like the UCLA DTs would also. Did Campbell know this? I don't know but I think he is surprised as many of us are especially the poor play of Becht. I know there were doubters so congratulations on being right so far. Try not to be so smug.

-Is Campbell now a bad coach? No. How could he be a good coach 3 weeks ago and a bad coach now?

-We did lose Howard and Granville. Two of
our best players on a talent challenged roster. We are not OSU with NFL talent everywhere. Not an excuse just a fact and we need to play better even without them.

-Is Campbell in way over his head? No. He is a proven winner at this level. Yes it was ISU and he lost games there. He has his challenges on the big stage now that is Penn State but it is not like he is a bad coach. We have to see if he can elevate the program to the playoffs and deep runs in the playoff. We just don't know after 2 B10 games and won't know even at the end of this season.

-We had to go all in on ISU guys. No choice. I doubt Grunk was staying no matter what but that could be debated and you can blame Campbell if you choose to. What is wrong with Becht? I don't know but I don't see that as a huge Campbell coaching failure, yet. Maybe others do. If Becht continues this sad sack season then yes Campbell has to share in the blame.

-We will win some games and surprise many of you. We won't finish 9-3 and doubtful 8-4 but there is a shot at that but we won't be 4-8 or even 5-7 either. If we don't finish at least 7-5? Certainly reason for concern but we need to have some patience (see the long game below).

-We need to show improvement no doubt. My biggest priority is the team plays with more physical toughness. Even if we lose but the team shows physical toughness then that is a good thing and a positive.

-Even though this year is kind of a lost year at this point we do need to win games for the momentum of the program and most importantly for the attractiveness of the program for portal guys and HS recruits.

For the long game as in starting with our 2028 class there are two things that have to happen:

1) Our NIL budget has to move into the top 15 and ideally top 12. Kraft needs to make this happen. This is his responsibility. Campbell needs to lobby hard for this as well but Kraft is accountable.

2) Campbell needs to recruit at least at the Franklin level in the top 15 and ideally get a top 10 class every 4th year. This point is directly related to point #1.

Beyond this we need to see:

-A physically tough and mentally tough team and program. Have not seen this yet but Campbell talks about it a lot. He needs to walk the talk.

-Strong player development, guys outkicking their coverage from their HS rankings or portal rankings. Guys showing good improvement from when they started to their last year.

-Good game strategy/planning and strong in-game coaching. We can't be looking back at losses and saying many of them were due to being outcoached or boneheaded calls or playing scared or playing not
to lose.

-Actually pulling a few upsets here and there.

As for results. We need to make the playoff by year 3 or 4 at the latest. If not in year 3 then steady improvement is shown and we are a top 20 or top 15 team but just missing out.

And if we do make the playoffs then we need to be consistently making it (3 out of 4) with a deep run to the semis, finals thrown in there. I would say every 4th year, we should be making a strong run at the natty.

If we don't do these things as in a playoff appearance by year 4 at the latest and we stay as a mid tier to bottom tier B10 team then we should fire Campbell and Kraft. Kraft's success is tied to Campbell.
Almost as pathetic as your excuse making.

Exactly... it took a couple of days but even Sunday I started to realize this team is just short on talent. Gimme Jimmy took some others left on their own to seek fortunes and Campbell was put in place after the transfer period. It's going to take 2-3 years of solid recruiting and using the portal wisely. This team is just short on top level talent playing against other big 10 teams. We are seeing it first hand. Campbell can coach. As I said sunday a wise football coach once said every scheme can work when you have the talent. It's the Jimmy and Joe's not X's and O's.
Some weren’t drinking the Blue and White Kool Aid before the season began.

Objective criticism, sure. Saying that the stadium will be half empty for the Whiteout on Saturday night or predicting that we won't win a Big Ten game this season is far from "objective criticism".

Now we lose the little games too.
At least Franklin had us consistently in big games and he would have had us positioned to be in the new playoffs too. We gave him only 2 years with the new playoffs. He got us to final 4 the first year and we all know last year. But there’s something deeper going on with last year. Just so weird. I won’t ever understand the value in firing him when we did or at all really.

Especially when you're putting his entire roster up in smoke in this era of absolute Free Agency - we essentially exchanged ISU's roster for PSU's...... at a higher cost???? Only moron bureaucrats and zero-accountability hacks could justify running a Professional Football team this way. Sadly, this is precisely what PSU has and they expect Alumnus to financially fund this horsecrap nonsense???

Kevin Horne is a regular guest/contributor to The Obligatory PSU Podcast. According to Podscan, it’s the most listened to PSU football podcast. Anyway, transcript of Horne’s final thoughts:

———

“It's just, again, we're in hell, we're in hell.
I'm going to say two more things and Brandon and Mike can go and I'll step back because it's just, I, it's horrific. We, because the team is so bad, we've sort of glossed over like Campbell's coaching style, which has been horrendous. Like his fourth down decision-making is basically the opposite of what you should do.

Basically every time you're down three possessions in the third quarter and you're punting from your side of the field. I mean, that, you can't take that guy seriously ever again with that punt in the third quarter when you're down 17. I mean, that's just, that's unforgivable.

Unforgivable. I don't know what you thought about going for it. I almost forgot about the second thing.
The second thing, there's all these old Iowa state clips now, resurfacing that are like very red flaggy. Right? He lost like a, I don't know, a game at the end of the year a decade ago or whatever, eight years ago to prevent Iowa state, to limit Iowa state from winning the Big 12.

Some reporter asked him some kind of question about what it meant to not meet their goals, aka to win the Big 12. Campbell went off on the guy being like, it was never my goal to win the Big 12. I never said it was the goal to win the Big 12.
I just want to get better, a little bit better every week. I want this team to get a little bit better every week. I never said it was my goal to win anything.

Yeah, go **** yourself, man. That's the mentality in that locker room. It's not my goal to win something.

It's just to get better every week. That's either he's telling the truth and he's a clown or it's just coach speak and dishonest. So either one of those things is bad, but it doesn't paint a bright picture for the future.

And it's only, man, six days, a lot of changes in six days. We've never taken anything away from a non-conference slate ever again, ever again. Because it's inconceivable how ****** they looked the last six days. I'll be quiet now.”

I have one on now here in Ann f'ing Arbor, MI. Nice bright white one. Perfect for a white out, but it's aging. Got any pointers to brighten the white?

I'd like to believe the old Joe Pa saying. "You're never as bad as you think you when you lose, and you're never as good as you think you are when you win."

I said I'd like to believe it... lol...
Well if misery loves company they have nothing to brag about either these days in Anny

“Patience” is not firing a coach that had you in the CFP semi-finals 9 months previously with two CFP victories. Now that most of you got your wish, you’re all arguing and making excuses as to why we all of a sudden suck.

As soon as this schedule came out when Franklin was still the coach, most just assumed this year would be a CFP run. It was by far the easiest Big Ten schedule we could possibly draw. Now, even you admitted in another thread that 2-7 in the Big Ten is a possibility.
He beat SMU and Boise State--let's remember this. Then he said he had his best team ever, we paid all the guys, spent for the DC he wanted then he collapsed--it wasn't a tough decision
What excuses? If Franklin was here this year I wasn't expecting anything either--I've been saying that since 2024. Had Franklin made a playoff and won at least one game last year I wouldn't have cared if he went 3-9 this year.
