I want a stepping stone coach.
Give me a guy looking to win big quickly and then get poached by a blue blood team.

The only coach who will be at Rutgers for 5+ years will be a mediocre coach who isn't valued for bigger schools.

Oh no.....we won big and now need to replace a coach coming off big successful seasons?
What ever will we do.

He has a 10-year show cause order levied against him from the ncaa. He's never coaching college again.
Not only that iirc Harbaugh also has to sit out the first season back entirely so someone else would have to coach for him in year 1. They basically set it up so he won’t come back.

Immediate buzz hires
Kelly or Dan Mullen
Solid coach who ain’t sexy Narduzzi. 5-0 for 3rd time in 3 years. As Saban said “no coach in football does more with less”
And without looking at his contract you could probably steal Mr Row the boat

No more DC types as HC, I’m done with that. Hire an established offensive coach with credentials as a QB developer. Kelly or Mullen would top the list. The only thing that worries me about Kelly is he is turning 65. Is he going to have the energy and enthusiasm to do the work at a struggling program? I have visions of UNC hiring back Mack Brown in his late ‘60’s. It didn’t work out well.

No old/bald tires with high price tags. No coordinators who were never an HC. No DCs who think offense is vestigial chore. Cigs is the model and Indiana AD did a lot of research into coaching stats, types and potentials. They didn't want retreads or fool's gold the way many teams roll. Need real strong vibe of turned leaf and no rah-rah we got the best guy from 2015.

A not so old bald guy on the hot seat kicked ASU’s butt yesterday. 😉

I'm sure people remember Brian Kelly went to national title game in 2012 (got crushed)
Do they remember that ND had ALL its 2012/13 wins vacated because of academic fudging?
Undefeated in 2012 and played for title - whoosh all gone

With Fickell off the chopping block go hard at Jason Eek (49). He turned Idaho into a winner now has New Mexico playing their best football ever. With no resources they pushed Oklahoma to the brink. His teams play hard and he knows how to push the right buttons.
Idaho had 2 winning seasons in 22 years prior to his arrival. In his 3 seasons there they went to 3 straight FCS playoffs. Pushed Oregon to the 4th qtr and beat other G6 teams from the FCS. Idaho got a big last second upset of #1 Montana last night but other than that it looks like they’ve backslid since Eck left. Looks like he’s able to hire some good assistants like Rob Aurich (currently Nebraska DC) and also his current DC.

At NM they had 2 winnings seasons in the prior 18 and in his first season there they went 9-4 and got a share of the MWC regular season title. He had 72 new players, most in the FBS . Played Michigan decently and beat down a struggling UCLA. This season took OU to the end and doing well so far. Starting qb lost for the year in the preseason and was shuffling qbs for a bit but now has settled on one, currently 4-1 after beating down UTEP 61-7 yesterday.

Former B10 OL and you can see his teams play tough hard nosed ball.

Jacobs feels potentially similar to me and has won at an 80% clip but want to see what he does at Toledo this year. Also a former B10 OL who also tries to build from the lines out. Maybe not as much a rebuilder as Eck but more taking the gamble on winners know how to win theme hopefully kind of like DeBoer. His former Mercer qb is killing it currently at Oregon State under former DeBoer assistant Jamarcus Shephard.

This is just about what I mentioned with regards to those who bring up Chip Kelly as CFB HC. I've heard the same in the past from CFB media. Unless his mind has changed, I don't get the feel he wants to be CFB HC anymore...he loves the football stuff but not the extraneous stuff (recruiting, gladhanding donors etc..) HCs have to do.

An article from a couple years ago when he left UCLA HC to be OSU OC.

From the article:

So I actually coached the quarterbacks for the bowl game.

"I had started to think, ‘I haven't actually coached a position since 2008.' I think my wife remarked, 'I haven't seen you this happy in a long time.' To me, the best part of football is football. So, you've got to do football and not do some of the things involved with what a head coach does."

His wife's remark, along with his stint working with UCLA's quarterbacks, seemed to serve as an impetus for why Kelly began to reconsider his coaching career. He said he began to think about his future in the weeks following UCLA's bowl win over Boise State, coming to the conclusion that he'd step down from his gig as a head coach for a role to coach a position again if the right opportunity came up.

"As a head coach, you sit in on position meetings, but you always get pulled out," Kelly said. "There's other things that are involved with being a head coach. I think it's more of a CEO operation right now. The job and the landscape of college football, as we all know, have changed."

"I just want to be happy," Kelly said. "I'm really happy to be coaching a position. I'm really happy at this place. It'd take a really special place for me to leave UCLA."

"I really love the scheming part. I love the individual part. I love being in the meeting room with the quarterbacks and trying to game plan.

And Kelly abandoned the University of Cincinnati players before the National Championship Game to take the Notre Dame job.

Tim Polasek of North Dakota State might be a longshot, but he does have a good lower level resume and holding his own this year in North Dakota State's first season as a BCS program and was Iowa's OL coach (2017 -2020)

Charley Huff of Memphis is another that deserves a long look
He just started there but is a job hopper leaving Southern Miss after one year to take the Memphis job.
He as the RB/ST coach at Penn State (2014-2017)

Another successful FCS HC from NDSU that deserves a good look-see is the current Fresno State HC who left North Dakota State> 60-11 <>11-4 in 2023< after the 2023 season and went to USC as their Assistant HC & LB coach and moved on to the Fresno HC position this year

Honestly couldn’t care less. We need someone who’s gonna come in here and instantly raise the profile of our program. He will also attract big-time quarterbacks the day he is announced. Is he an ***? Absolutely….but that’s exactly what we need right now. The “Rutgers Man” days are over. WE WANT WINS!

Offense first HC, please. Get a veteran DC in there to pair with.

100%

Every argument about "Schiano is the only one who has been able to win here" completely ignores reality.

The head coaches in the last 25 years:
Schiano
Flood - rushed hire (after Schiano left) and someone who had never run an offense
Ash - career defensive meathead who got scared and immediately abandoned having a productive offense in year 2

Never even attempted an offensive HC.
And no, I dont care about coaches from 30 years ago or how they did here.

I wouldn’t be adverse with Narduzzi he always gets pretty good talent at Pitt! The wake forrest coach is good but wouldn’t draw a buzz! I would look at James Madison coach

ABS. Literally.

No one who has ever worked for Schiano or anyone who worked for someone who worked for Schiano. The Schiano Stench needs to be removed like a cancer from the entire program. Chopping, the ball is the program, "developmental", fair catching punts, run run pass, burn it all never to be spoken of again.

Bring on new blood, modern systems, and someone with balls. A HC at some level that has won. Not saying Eck, but someone with that resume. Guy has never had a losing season and he's been at some pretty awful places.

Flood ran the offense with Captain Kirk in 2009 and 2010. Kirk got let go and Flood was moved to o-line coach when Cignetti came in in 2011.

And I think they initially were in contact with Cristobal after he was fired at FIU and Schiano bolted to TB before settling on Flood, but I could be mistaken?

Former DeBoer assistant Jamarcus Shephard who also worked under Leach, Brohm is in his first year at Oregon State. So it’s way early in his HC tenure but he’s made qb Brady Atkinson from Mercer the leading passer in the country at the moment and made a true freshman Jesse Legree who just switched to WR in his senior year of high school into the 2nd leading receiver in the country at the moment. Supposed to be tenacious recruiter and has coached a bunch of top receivers. Top 10 offense in YPP/YPG and top 30 scoring at the moment. They challenged Houston and TT pretty well in losses. Not even half a season done yet so would have to wait and see.

If they move on from Greg (I think they should and believe they will), I can see them maybe hiring someone who had a stop at Rutgers under Greg but definitely not any of his disciples. There's too much politics that come along with Greg and you'd need a full removal and reset.

However, I think we all need to accept that if there is a mutually good and trusting relationship b/t BK and Tate/Zinn, it's likely going to be him. LSU is still paying his buyout and Keli needs to minimize the financial impact while trying to sell this to the BOG. I'd suspect he has a decent relationship with the NJ parochials and can shore up recruiting using those ties. And it'll signal that Rutgers is serious about football in a way you're not going to get with other candidates. Unless the program boosters revolt, if everything else is true, I don't see how it will go any other way.
