I hope by now I have proven by my post history how much I hate olemiss. I do hate some things about their fanbase, but it's more the institution as a whole, and what the self-important persona the fanbase has developed over the years does to normally reasonable people. I actually have a lot of friends who went to olemiss, and with a few exceptions, I tolerate them, they tolerate me, and we get along on a daily basis. I see their superiority act as a coping mechanism. But they know it's an act, and they will quickly shut the F up when reality inevitably smacks them in their lip injections.

LSU, similarly, has a bad (and well-earned) reputation of being rowdy, rude, loud and obnoxious as a group in Tiger Stadium - but honestly, I have found them personally to be super accomodating and even inviting when it comes to tailgates, beers, etc. They seem to always want you to have a good experience at the game. They want to win badly, but if we do happen to get the W - they generally take it with relative grace, and just add more drunkenness.

HOWEVER. After being in STK this weekend and being reminded yet aGAIN how seriously f'ing awful the Gump fans are first hand... I have permanently changed my mind on who are the worst human beings on the planet, or at least in the college football world. NEVER in my life have I seen a more petty, insecure, inbred, boldly racist, stubbornly narcisstic, toxic bunch of retards gathered in one place. I mean, besides Tuscaloosa.

I'm a lover, not a fighter. As such, it's been quite some time since I - a fully grown man with children, a mortgage, and a livelihood I'd generally like to keep - thought seriously about risking it all to knock some punk college kid's teeth down his throat. And he was just one of the many red-and-white-jerseyed theoretical adults I came across who deserved it on the day. I won't get into all the details, just in case I get pulled into a lawsuit later.

I just feel like I need to say publicly to Bama fans: act like you've been there before. Because you have been there. A lot, actually. The way you act after a win is not a good look, especially as the game unfolded and reports came that Kamario was sick, and Fluff was obviously hurt... It is not a good example to set for your kids, little Crymsyn and Bear, Jr. What did you expect to happen? As I gently asked another of the MF'ing punks who was walking around recording his buddy cussing out our fans in multiple tailgates - you've beaten us 17 straight times, why are you acting like you just won the super bowl? This wasn't a shock to us - why was this win so surprising to you? It seems to be more than a personality flaw... I think there might really be something deeply wrong with you people. Seek help, please.

I lived there for years. My friends, who had not been subjected to such torture, did not understand how I liked them less than Ole Miss fans by far. My general experience still holds that most graduates of both schools are OK in comparison to the sidewalk fans, who are the most obnoxious. Don't get me wrong, I know some bad alumni as well, but proportionally, it's not close.

Playing devils advocate here.....but, most of what you encountered Saturday, probably have not been there before b/c I would have to guess that most of the "bumps" that attended Saturday represented the portion of the fanbase that can not get season tickets for home games

**but other than the above, I will agree, those sons-a-bitches are just intolerable

maybe so... but I needed to vent. 17 those 17ers who were there. I believe they literally wanted to start fights.

Too long for my attention span to read entirely, but it’s a great post. Well said. I hate them too. Would read again.

I sat along the sidewalk by Lloyd Ricks most of the day and didn't see anything negative from them at all. Several stopped and watched our tv for awhile and were nice folks. They were probably actual alumns and not Lowndes County or Clay County alumns. Worst thing I saw was a MSU co-ed hurling her guts out in the bushes by Lloyd Ricks until she fell face first into it and got it all over her dress. She was on a rant about something but wasn't making much sense

My ex-wife's dad grew up in Alabama, so was a big sidewalk Bama fan. Genuinely nice man who I still talk to regularly even though his daughter and I got divorced 10 years ago.

Sometime prob 2009-2013 he got asked to actually go to a game in Tuscaloosa to watch the State-Bama game. This was a big deal for him, since he never got to go to games, so he was really stoked. I was watching the game at home, and when Bama started having their way with us, I started getting texts from him. He was having the time of his life, and giving the State fan he knows best - me - ten kinds of hell about every Bama touchdown.

I looked at my ex and told her, "If your daddy keeps picking on me about this game, I'm going to start writing him back and telling him what your favorite positions are."

My Dad, God rest his soul, moved to Alabama to work at a private college when he was 58. He never had offered an opinion on Bama fans, until he lived amongst them. He came away with an intense hate. Spoiled and rude, with a sense of privilege.

I always say Bama/OM are the worst two fanbases of the the teams that are our "traditional" opponents. LSU is third because they do have terrible fans, but their "good" fans are great.

Barn fans are probably the best.

They have a hole in their lives and football is not able to fill it.

Somehow dressing up as sidewalk alumni is not satisfying their need.

The only Bama fan I know personally actually has a degree from there, a nice family and a very successful career in banking. His personal trademark is that he is an insufferable prick.

I have quite a number of Rebel friends and some really good LSU friends who are open and hospitable. My Bama person I know is insufferable every day of his life.

I've lived in Alabama most of my life, and I know several Alabama football fans, but I can't think of a one who actually went to school there.

Most Bama fans aren't alumni, their just losers who find some measure of worth by associating themselves with a winning program. They're leaches. That's the thing about Ole Miss fans, at least they usually have some actual connection to the school. Most of the gumps are just weird, desperate clingers that one look quickly informs you couldn't get admitted to the university they are in such full-throated support. Probably why their are so obnoxious after a win, they finally think they have something to brag about.

I've been around many opposing SEC fans at Davis Wade, or their stadiums over the years and one of the craziest/worst things I have ever seen was after the Croom defeat of Nick Saban. We had several Bama fans around us and at the end of the game a small girl (maybe 6) was standing near us ringing her cowbell and an older Bama fan walked right up to her and flipped her off. I'm talking 60+ year old woman flipping off a small child.

They look like your typical "Bama fan" family that doesn't have much positive going for them, so they chose to root for Bama so they could finally have something in their life to brag about.

I'm convinced that when they moved the Iron Bowl from Birmingham to campus years ago, a large contingent of their fans were thoroughly confused by this idea of a college campus being associated with their football team...

That checks out. I've relayed the story before, but an MSU alum friend of mine attended an Iron Bowl with an Auburn friend years ago. Bama won. As he tells it, they were leaving the stadium when an elderly lady, missing most of her teeth, in full crimson regalia, started to berate the friend who was in Auburn gear: "Culture versees agreeeculture, culture versees agreeeculture! Culture weeeeuuunnnss!" And that about sums up the gulf between who Alabama thinks they are, and are perceived, and who they really are, and everyone else knows it but them. Strong Ole Miss correlation there as well.

Years ago, my Dad was in the Shriners Club and they served as ushers for our football games as a fund raiser. He always said that the Alabama fans were by far the worst behaving fan base of all. This would have been back in the 1990’s or possibly the early 2000’s. Back then we put the visitors in the upper deck on the west side and that’s where he was usually stationed. He said that most fans were actually pretty nice people to deal with and they never had any trouble with the fans other than from Mississippi and Alabama and that Alabama were by far the worst. Mostly just redneck hicks.

1. We all know that there are too many “shades” of maroon. But, I didn’t realize until Saturday that there is way more shades of red that get called crimson. There was crimson, dark-crimson, light-crimson, cardinal red, garnet red, cranberry, purple-red and even maroon-crimson. Obviously, most Bama fans at the game Saturday shop at Walmart, 7-11 and Dollar General for their “official” gear.
2. I witnessed five, what appeared to be high school kids, one gay boy and his four friends that were girls, harass a dedicated and fervent female State fan just because she was ringing her cowbell. Of course, he behaved until the game got out of hand and then he got brave. He was lucky that there were adults in the area.

I have found that the worse ones are the ones that never bought a ticket or been to a game.
. . . and every single one of them use the term "We" when referring to Bama athletics collectively. I'm totally convinced that none of them have EVER set foot on the UAT campus much less attend a class or earn a degree. When encountering one or more of them, it's always necessary to ask if they have a mouse in their pocket.
