1. Years and years ago walking back to my hotel from the French Quarter about 2am. I don't remember the name or location of the hotel or the name of the street with the incident but it was a 4 lane street with dividers in the middle like Hwy 12 through Starkville now. There was no traffic at all on the street until a car load of people came from the opposite direction, slowed down across from me and someone yelled something like "What time is it?" then then they slammed on the gas and at the next intersection turned to come up behind me. I immediately picked the darkest alley I could find and hauled ***. I went places that I wouldn't go during the daytime but I deemed that what MAY be ahead wasn't as dangerous as what WAS behind me. I hid out for about 30 minutes before proceeding back to the hotel.

2. Several years ago when storm chasing with Hugh's Burner Phone we spotted the tornado that hit Tishomingo while we were north of Tishomingo on Hwy 25 with a clear view to the west. He notified Memphis NWS and I notified Laubhan then we booked it south to try to get below it. With zero visibility due to trees and radar scans being 5 mins old, we thought we were far enough south and in the clear. NOPE! We pulled into a cemetery just across the road from the Dollar General that was soon to be demolished. As we were out of the truck watching the sky, we saw the rotation right in front of us. As we hopped in the truck to get the hell out of there, there were several southbound cars just poking along on 25 delaying our getaway. As soon as we got on 25 it hit. Several cars stopped in front of us with the debris flying but thankfully 'Hugh' put his foot down and we screamed out of there amidst falling trees, falling powerlines and a huge piece of tin that went just over the truck. I later went back and checked the time stamp of when I notified Laubhan which was the same time that 'Hugh' was calling the NWS and it was less than 2 minutes after that when the tornado warning was issued. Up until that time it just had a severe thunderstorm warning. So, even though we ended up in the middle of it, we were able to give folks a few minutes of warning.

After 9/11 all of the airports nation wide shut down for two days. I made a business trip from Jackson to Dallas, on 9/13 when they reopened. I was not excited about flying that day! My early early morning flight must have been one of the first to come in to DFW airport. There was almost no one on the plane with me. When I arrived the normally packed DFW airport, was just empty, and quiet.... It was like some movie where everyone had vanished. I remember walking from my gate down the terminal alone and listening to wheel on my luggage squeaking as it rolled. When I stepped outside at the place where the bus picks you up to go get your rental car, there was no traffic, not even traffic sounds, for ten minutes! Eventually the rental car bus came down the empty road, and I was the only one to get on it. Very strange feeling....
I flew about two weeks or so after 9/11 and connected thru ATL.
The ATL flight to cant remember where I was going but there were maybe 30 people on the flight. I had a row all to myself as did a lot of folks.
Two guys that looked very very similar to the 9/11 perps came on and sat down right behind me.
As soon as the cabin door was closed, I moved and sat down right behind those MF’s and told the flight attendant what I was doing and why. She said thank you.

Was on a work trip and was flying out of St. Louis. I sat in the back close to the wing. We had just ended taxiing and the pilots just started going into hyperdrive and the jet engine right by me blew the 17 up!

Needless to say, I had a bit of a delay after that and everybody was freaked the hell out. Thank goodness we never left the ground! Pretty sure I never flew TWA after that again.

1. Hit an air pocket in a helicopter between two mountain passes while hunting for tahr in New Zealand. Felt like the bottom fell out from under us. The rotors were about a foot from the mountain wall on one side. Pilot was a great one and he even looked back and was rattled afterwards.

2. On a boat on the Rio Negro in the middle of the Amazon. It was rainy season so the natives leave their man made huts on the river banks and live further back in the jungle. It’s like coming up on ghost towns made of bamboo and straw. There is also no black like an Amazon black night. Plus the noises in the jungle are freakish and deafening at times. Send shivers down your spine.

I flew back from Seattle on 9/10. The trip went Seattle/Memphis/Jackson. I was about the 10th row back on the left riding twinkie for the Memphis/Jackson leg. As we are barreling down the runway for takeoff, this foreign guy in the aisle seat next to me starts shaking my right shoulder with his left hand while pointing forward with his right and saying "Look! Look! They left the cockpit door open!". I leaned over and looked and sure enough it was wide open and flopping back and forth. I didn't think anything of it at the time but I sure as hell did the next day. When I got home from work, I actually emailed the FBI that story and gave them my flight number and seat number. #1: Before 9/11, who would have even noticed that? #2: Before 9/11, why would you make a big deal out of it? Add in when it happened and it seemed pretty damn suspicious to me.

In 2005 and 2006 I lived in San Diego. I was never worried on flights leaving from there as they were always packed with Navy and Marines. That is except the very last time I flew home. There were zero, at least in uniform. But, sitting front row aisle seat was Goldberg. So that made it ok. LOL

Since it's close to halloween here I go.
1. As a teenager I lived in a house in the country where a little boy died. My parents never told me. I've always been sensitive to the supernatural so I'm really creeped out in my bedroom at night. I could hear somebody walking on the creaky hardwood during the night. SOMETHING was in the room with me. This happened night after night. Sometimes I could FEEL something watching me at the foot of my bed. There was a streetlight on a pole in the driveway, so I always had a little light. I never wanted to open my eyes. Eventually it got worse. I would lay on my left side and I could feel someone sitting on the edge of the bed near my back. The bed would literally indent and I could feel the mattress sag. My heart would race out of my chest and I would lay there and pray. This happened for probably two years until I finally told my Dad. He said "Oh, it's probably that little boy! I've seen him once and he came in and hugged my chest one night and I could feel his fat little fingers on me!

2. I was fishing on the Pearl River when a thunderstorm came in on a bluebird day. I watched it slowly start spinning and told my Dad and another guy with us we should keep an eye on it. 10 minutes later it formed a tail, dropped down and was a full blown tornado heading upriver towards the boat ramp. We were in an aluminum bass tracker with a 35hp and we were within the danger zone. The rain was so heavy it stung bad and I've have NEVER seen/heard so much lightning. Laying in the bottom of the boat, you could hear St. Elmo's fire as the whole boat was electrically charged. It began to hail on us as boats frantically raced up and down the river at full speed trying to escape. Tons of drunk sandbar party people flying up the river trying to outrun the tornado. We knew we weren't going to make it so we rammed the boat on the shore at a picnic area, climbed the bank and hid under a concrete table. I looked for my Dad's friend who was older, and he wasn't there because he couldn't get up the hill. Dad ran back for him and managed to get him up the hill to "safety". When we got back to the boat ramp there were bloody people everywhere who were so scared they fell all over the concrete trying to jump in the beds of trucks. Several boats were totaled as well. Glad we made it.

Does driving on high bridges over wide open expanses whether water or just openness also do that to you?
Driving doesn’t bother me. Walking across a bridge would if I looked over the side. I’d focus on where my next footstep was landing. A mesh catwalk, forget about it!

I was a passenger in a helicopter flying up the Ms River in St Louis. This was back when the cardinals were still there and playing in the open air stadium. The Cowboys were in town and were practicing in the stadium and we could see them from our position over the river. Pilot asked if I wanted to make a pass over the stadium and of course I said yes. The air over that enclosed stadium was dead, we fell what felt like 200-300 feet. I thought we were going down into the stadium before it caught. Players stopped practice and pointed at us.
