Great win but qb has to improve

Off to a fantastic start this season but.....qb play must get better. He is missing reads and not seeing guys that are open. Missing throws at times. Has a weird lack of pocket presence much of the time.

Right now the staff is scheming almost every completion. He has to improve if we're going to have a great season. Cant leave this many yards on the table and keep winning tough games.

Good news is, with the recruiting pitch we can put out there, this is probably the least talented qb stein will have in his time here.

His awareness on the OT TD and his direction to teammates on the 2-point conversion was spectacular. He took some sacks that did not appear to be all his fault (one time Boyer appeared to get tripped up and did not provide Wood the extra help needed - Wood seems to need a little extra help at times). The run by KM to the 4 yard line was really good to see. Overall, I thought he stepped up in a “muddy” pocket better, rather than roll outside the tackles like he did against S Alabama. He also used his legs effectively. I thought this was his best game, given the pressure seemed more intense than at TAMU.

This is a dumb take. It’s like getting mad at someone for not being perfect. EVERY college quarterback occasionally misses reads. Minchey has been every bit as good or better in his first ever starts than any sane fan could’ve reasonably expected of him.

Find something reasonable to complain about. Expecting a college QB to play like prime Tom Brady is not reasonable.

His operation is elite. There is no doubt about that. His execution is where we need improvement.

I didn't get mad. Reread my post. I said he needs to improve if we're going to have a special season. That's a long way from being mad.

Things don't have to be binary. You can simultaneously 1) appreciate what hes doing, like being elite in operation and completing most of his schemed completions and 2) want him to execute live reads better.

It looked to.me like Wood stepped on the foot of Boyer & fell down on that play, Minchey took the sack because of it.

5 games into his first year ever as a starter and is 4-1 with 1100+ yds passing and 11 TDs with 1 pick.. In the sec.. As a first year starter.. Missing a few reads.. Well..

Over the top negativity. We have bigger issues than him.

And one of those games he wasn’t asked to throw much at all.

Minchey was fine, great in the second half. His stats are amazing for an SEC road game. If I did have one thing I wish he’d improve on it’s his pocket awareness from time to time. He occasionally holds on to the ball to long and looks stiff back there. But by god, it’s hard to find any negatives to care about right now. Kid threw the game tying touchdown and game winning conversion. With 0 turnovers!

I think Minchey has been a very effective QB and we have to remember ... he is still learning.
Coming into this season, he had only thrown a total of twenty-nine (29) passes in his college career.
He seems cool, calm and collected ... and I think this rubs off on everyone in the huddle.
Does he make mistakes ... SURE ... he is human and who doesn't ... but seems to be a play-the-next-play kinda guy, which I really like.

Minchey has exceeded my expectations so far for this season. How many drops has there been on perfectly thrown balls. He has lead this team to a 4 and 1 record with 2 big SEC wins on the road. I didn't think we would be 4 and 1. The next couple games are going tough. Just continue to play the way he has and this team will win some games that we are not expecting to win. Just want to continue be competitive and this season will be great. GO CATS!

Agree that hes been effective because he is elite in operation and is accurately distributing most of the schemed completions.

To really take this team to the next level, we need better decisions in coverage. Too often he's not seeing open guys.

Let's take for example the last play of regulation. In that layered concept, the deeper guy was open and could get out. Instead he got darby killed (because the deeper defender cheated up) inbounds which ran out the clock.

Our margin for error is just so small we need him to improve if we're going to push upwards of 8 wins.

He would probably agree with you ... he seems focused on being the best he can be ... taking his leadership position very seriously.

Yea, he's the first rushed/flushed newbie QB that's ever made such a HUGE mistake. LOL.

We need our defense to get more timely stops. Put 4 consistent offensive quarters together but Stein seems to know what adjustments to make when things aren’t working and Kenny doesn’t get down if he starts slow.
