Not all were scored against the Defense and a couple were set up by turnovers. The only real score to be blamed on the offense was the Pick 6 today. The first drive fumble by K1 was at the Bama 43 as State was driving until that play. It was up to the defense to get the ball back without Bama easily driving 57 yards for the score. Bama moved with ease and didn’t even have to take Exlax against that porous State defense. State lost Isaac Smith, and Trevion Williams last week and Zakari Tillman has yet to play. Depth is awful. But the best players on defense are seniors, 5th year players or 6th year players. It ain’t getting better next year unless $millions are thrown at portal players. It’s sad that what historically has been the strength of this program is now the primary weakness. All the defensive NFL players and State cannot sign legit defenders, cover guys and dline.

Well it's Arnetts first year back and up until this game the defense has been pretty good. You won't see another 2017-18 defense in this era.
Bama qb line receivers are elite talent too. We were on receivers and they still caught it. We did get sacks. Run defense was no that great but that will happen with the bama qb can move and sling it it . There have bean very few games in our history we have held bama down

We should definitely overreact to this loss and not put it in context at all.

we turned it over 4 times. The offense was given a TD on that fumble inside their 20. We are not built to win defensive slugfests. We are built to slow down the other offense just enough that our high powered offense can score more. The offense scored 16 points “on its own.” That won’t cut it against anyone, much less Bama.

Our goal for defense is to hold the opposing team to less than 30. If we’re winning games 35 - 28, they’re fine.

I like Arnett. No complaints at all. But we’ve had trouble getting to the QB under him. Probably a talent thing more than scheme. Big time DL are expensive these days.

I don't really disagree with your point, but if we're going to refer to OM's defense as atrocious, we can't call our defense pretty good. We're next to last in Passing Yds and Pts, 4th to last overall, we don't cause turnovers, and our "strength" (run defense) is bottom half of the conference.

We needed our defense to not suck this season, and I guess we can say that we've accomplished that so far, but this defense is a lot closer to bad than it is to pretty good by every statistical measure.

Remove the 21 pts scored as a result of TO's (a few, not a couple) and the TD set-up by the PF when the D did hold bama to a FG and you got 24 pts, subtract that and you got 32 pts for bama. So you're back in that 34 - 24 pt range. Right?

Also, you're not counting the points that the O should have contributed (even if they were just FGs) when they did have the ball and were driving. The next time K1 puts the ball on the turf he should fall on it immediately not act like he lost a contact lens.
