I wanted to say this but knew it's something I wouldn't be able to say without getting taken to the slaughter.

Well. Truth hurts some haha. Obviously the final Cal years and BBM's werent great because similarly, we just didnt feel great about our chances. But more often than not Cal introduced teams that made you think "this is a roster that could win a F4, maybe a title". It was exciting just for that reason. That, and compared to Pope, Cal had a great personality for these events.

Besides being a complete coaching mystery, this was my biggest problem with the Pope hire. This was also true with the heavy rumors that Mitch wanted Scott Drew. Their personalities just do not match the Kentucky fanbase’s expectations. Cal was a bullshitter to the extreme, and while it wore on us as things started falling apart, when we were good, he was perfect for Kentucky. This is something that Pope, even if he manages to win, just doesn’t have. It was true for Tubby as well and that man won a title.

I understand the contracts and what not, but Big Blue Madness would be better off being produced/broadcasted over the UK Sports Network again. Growing up in eastern Kentucky, it was a given WYMT in Hazard was pre-empting whatever CBS was airing to show anything UK related.

I will still fully own that I really liked the Pope hire, because we were getting a guy who just had a pretty great season with BYU in the B12, upsetting a bunch of teams far out of their league. He was a young-ish coach who I thought could have been a next-great coach in waiting. But so far, hes just missed almost every mark. It almost couldn't have gone worse. Hes done just enough to earn additional seasons.

One thing you know is happening is Cal is sitting over there and Fayetville laughing, "this is the guy you ran me out of town for"?

So im watching the replay and wondering if KAT got lost backstage or even had a clue if he was supposed to walk out. Pope was coming down on his platform thing and yelled NBA champion Karl A T then it took like 30 seconds for him to walk out.

All I could think was damn Pope can't even get the walk outs right. Kind of a awkward few seconds there lol.
