We better significantly up our NIL and Campbell better get recruiting in gear or this will stay ugly for us. Maybe not this ugly but probably middle of the pack B10 type team ugly.
Middle of the pack B10 sounds pretty good right now.

The last two games convince me that Penn State would be far better off had they stayed with Franklin
Really? I have the feeling it would look the same. Allar, Singleton, and Allen would be gone and Franklin had literal nothing waiting in the wings at any position except Grunk at QB and the CBs. And his recruiting class was already fracturing and about to bail. Honestly, what it appeared Franklin had coming back was less than what Campbell was able to make up for in short order. But “make up for” only got us back to kind of almost the same quality as last year’s team.

Well, they would definitely be much better than this team for sure. But the fact remains CJF was 4-17 against osu and michigan. His time had come. PSU has to up the NIL big time next year.

What's up Meats Lab? Been a long time.

Hey Knox how are you? Been away for a while and looks like I didn’t pick a good time to reappear lol. Only good thing is you can turn things around quicker these days with the portal, good management and obviously, the cash. As for me I’m retired and enjoying life. Hope you’re well!

Great to hear. Thinking about hanging up the cleats myself. Life is too f'ing short. An older buddy of mine retired at 65 and by 75 activities were over. Knees, hips, eyes....... Doesn't play golf anymore. Breaks my heart. We had so much fun back in the day.

A lot of bad on the team right now, and the hole the AD dug is a steeper climb out than it needed to be. That said, I think Campbell has what it takes to rebuild it the way he wants it, and I will never believe we’d be better off with the previous staff. That version of Penn State football had long been plateaued in a place that just didn’t feel good enough.

20 years ago or so, Nebraska fired a coach because he was winning only 9 games a season. The result was that Nebraska went into the football wilderness for a long time. This year Penn State mistakenly fired Coach Franklin for similar reasons, and it looks like the football wilderness awaits.
Franklin wasn't going to stay around either way. The band aid was ripped off. PSU will have to deal with it. Could take years. So be it. Do better than Anon btw.

You’re spot on. Go as soon as you can - never look back - treasure every day thereafter.

Apparently, I picked a good night to attend a concert instead of watching. Wife checked the score during the first half and even she quit doing so thereafter.

I don't believe MC uttered the word "obviously" even once. That's a win in my book.

I also wonder what kind of relationship Campbell has with Terry Smith. Is Terry mad because he didn't get the HC job? There might be some coaching/coordinator dysfunction or tension behind the scenes that we're unaware of.

One last comment. I knew we would miss Trautwein. He's turning Florida's OL around quickly to the point they are a team to watch.

Under Terry Smith as interim coach, Traut's 2025 OL started to resemble the ones that Cirbus used to develop.

Ryan Clanton isn't cutting it. He's really dumb

LMAO! No comparing BGJ to that situation.

well, we've lost to 2 middle of the pack B1G teams, so it's safe to say this is a "play football" year, no chance of playoffs. The players are now playing for themselves (NFL) and for the money. If Campbell were smart, he'd recognize that the next 7 games are to build for next year. Get the young guys some playing time, start looking at players on other teams that might enter the portal that fit our needs...in effect start building for 2027 season.

The concern though is twofold. The personnel is not new to him, as he brought a large platoon that he knew what he had, and what they can do. Secondly, for knowing his personnel, they don’t appear to have any idea what they are supposed to be doing. No matter how little talent was on Iowa St, HCMC had people that knew and could execute his scheme

Having a night to reflect on the last couple of games I believe it comes down to the old saying "it's not the x's and o's it's the jimmy and Joe's"... This team just does not have the talent to compete with average to good teams in the big 10. We are seeing the difference in talent between the big 10 and big 12. It's a big rebuilding job. Gonna take 2 years of good recruiting classes and being very active in the portal.

it's going to take money that we don't have

Or there’s cash money that not enough want to give. Just by sheer numbers, there should be enough Penn Staters to bump up the cash money. We don’t all work at McDonald’s.

I still think that a lot of older Penn Staters with cash money feel disconnected with the school over the JoePa fiasco. Plus, I think many of those older Penn Staters don’t see big NIL. o_O (hired mercenaries) as the Penn State Way.

Then again, I’m not very smart.

😞
