I haven’t seen any info on who’s been invited to wrestle at the All Star Classic but I assume there will be a few Nittany Lions participating. If those guys do then skip the Black Knight Invite it will give those of us going the chance to see Penn State’s #2 and #3 wrestlers go at it in the finals.
What weights do think the #2 and #3 would make the finals at ? I can think of 2 weights 149 and 174

Having the depth they have should encourage a tougher schedule. Could even win national duals with a 2-match individual cap.

But it’s whatever. They are non-revenue program, so they owe nothing to the fans. Go on with your dogass schedule and keep operating as the football charity that you are. Just don’t ask me to donate or be happy about it.

141 #2 and #3 could be Desmond and Davis

285 might be possible with Brown but I don’t know the field
Pierce and Perry are probably in the finals at 149. Cunningham and Henckel pin or TF their way to the finals if Mesenbrink goes 174.

Stoddard at 285 is solid so it depends if he's on the same side as the Mirasola that isn't the starter.

I am a huge fan of whatever schedule gets us to March with the same starting lineup Cael selects in Nov/Dec.

Sure you can get hurt wrestling anyone, but given we see many of the highest ranked Big10 kids 3 times (Dual, Bigs, Nationals) missing out on a few additional hammers doesn't bother me along the way.

Not having Nebraska on the schedule happens, but they will be back next year. I suspect Nebraska is happier about it than we are.

Agree I just didn't count Davis and Hwt Colbert Army is solid was 21-8 and went 2-2 atNCAA beat Mueller Columbia and Carroll Wyoming lost to Szuba and Trumble. Cole beat him by 3 or 4 last year I don't think Brown is beating him now be a good gauge for him

I think a lot of people forget, we aren't friendly with Cornell either. Koll non-stop complained about us (can't get over losing 2011 and also losing Max Dean, he's also salty that Cael tried to recruit Yianni even after he committed it appears) Grey's wife non-stop complains about us and accuses us of cheating, their peanut gallery spent years talking s*** about one of the PSU's most beloved wrestlers Zain. I'm sure Dake coming here doesn't help either.

Yeah, it would make a ton of sense. Oklahoma State would also! But if Cael doesn't like you, you aren't getting a dual.
If Taylor sent a few of his studs to the All Star classic, the road that needs paved to allow this dual to happen would have begun construction. If DT truly wants the dual (which i am certain he does) he made a huge mistake in not sending some of his guys to the meet.

No decent duals until Iowa. No challenging individual mid-season tournament like the Scuffle once was to see our guys against top competition in the semis and finals. Basically, there is nothing much to watch until February.

So it’s basically the same as the last several years. That’s the “price” of being so dominate. Last year did you feel like anything was in doubt in any match before Feb 13th vs Ohio State?

But any wrestling day feels like a holiday, Bloomsburg will feel like Christmas morning

My BJC seats are right next to Coach Rockey. As I was sitting and exchanging hellos, he ask what did I think. I answered 34 or 5 to 4. He said no way, hey are really good. I smiled and said, "yes they are. 41 might get a tech."

There wasn't any Ohio State doubt last year.

No there wasn’t any real doubt, I was being somewhat generous. But the year before we did get a scare after Luke got pinned and we had no idea if Davis was going to beat Bouzakis and Barrett was going to handle Mendez.

But they did have the horses to make it scary. 125 and 133 were close wins, Welsh had to make a comeback. And at any weight there’s a threat of something hideous like someone blowing a knee out which could create a 9-12 point swing

However, all of this wasn’t the main point of my post. The guy I was responding to wants tough duals so I was indicating that due to our dominance that really hasn’t existed for several years.

Kicking Cornell's *** is a lot less fun with Shapiro in Lincoln.

Proj to be 33-3 with Bailey over Desmond by one point

But a shutout over Iowa would be beyond decent, it would be phenomenal

Anyhow anyone who wants to root for a team that has hotly contested duals should pick up a second team and subscribe to ESPN+. Utah Valley?
On another board before I got the boot, we were putting together support for a team, probably from the SoCon. We were going to buy 100 season tickets and donate them to local wrestling clubs so the kids could go and donate $$ to the program itself. Stronger smaller school teams would be a great watch.

If we would organize it here, we'd probably be better off supporting a PSAC school. Helping Clarion or Edinboro get back even half of what they once were would be great to see. Even twenty dollars each from a couple of hundred people isn't a blip on the radar at Penn State but would mean a world of difference to ensuring those programs survive.

The nice thing is that a lot of their duals are free on the PSAC channel.

Having Mrs. Grey suffer a meltdown in the stands and watching as she is breaking eyeglasses and babbling like an imbecile about, "but, but, but they, they cheat" would be very entertaining.

I like the idea. With previous athletic administrations (ie Lock Haven, Clarion) the ADs would probably demand half of the donation be directed to different women's programs.

I admit I would like 1 or 2 high quality non-conference dual meets, ie Okie State and VTech. I think this year they maybe should have looked at scheduling Nebraska as a non-conference dual. In previous years they should have looked at scheduling Minnesota.
Binghamton is not a bad drive and if they were wrestling just 1 quality dual I would have bought tickets and made the drive. I have little interest in making the drive as it is now.
Cael ask me once what did I expect when I watch the team wrestle. My answer was effort and to be entertained. Not putting the team on the mat against 1 or 2 high quality teams (Okie St, VTech, ISU, Cornell, NCST) isn't entertaining.

I agree on Nebraska and I do think they will wrestle VaTech in upcoming years

Hear you on Binghamton but tbf that 12/20 date makes it difficult to schedule anyone since National Duals are week before

but otherwise ISU, Cornell, and ncst aren’t really a greater challenge than what we have scheduled in ok/lehigh/wvu. Especially Cornell who we’d probably shutout. Lehigh and WVU are projected to win a match which is something only a few select teams are doing on paper.

ok/lehigh/wvu are ranked 15/16/17

isu/ncst/cornell are 10/19/24

if it wasn’t for national duals we’d probably have a team like ISU at Binghamton. DT chirped a little which got people talking but schedule is fine

I like this idea and would be more than happy to participate in it. I’ve been a wrestling season ticket holder at a number of different schools, primarily to gain an advantage in acquiring B1G10 or NCAA tickets when they first go on sale. Helping out the smaller schools in PA by purchasing season tickets to be donated locally with the goal to promote quality college teams in the area is a laudable goal.

Iowa hasn’t been a decent dual the last couple of years and will be even worse this year.

This year is going to be rough for the Hawkeyes. Even @johnstownsteel may be inclined to ease up on them.

We may be nearing the time when the real indignity is when we no longer deign to make fun of them. I’m thinking this year will be a big step towards this. They are going to field like half a team of Iowa-level wrestlers.

Schedule is fine, is subjective. My point of view is that it isn't. It isn't has been the norm for every year recently.
Lehigh is not part of the schedule that needs upgraded. Lehigh is part of the year in and year out schedule.
DT chirping isn't the reason I am chirping. My chirping has been going on for several years, and growing with intensity.

As things change. It used to be Cael would look to have everybody ready for an in-season peak for the Scuffle and the Iowa dual. He would have a particular weekend where he would drill them all week and have a wrestle-thru match. The Scuffle went away and the idea for in-season peaks shifted to Ohio State and Iowa, with the wrestle-thru weekend. In season peaks for those 2 duals has remained, but my God he has wrestle-thru weekends for different wrestlers on multiple weekends now.

I used to poke fun at the Iowa fans about it is cool they aren't much of a threat anymore because that let's me root for the PA kids (especially Murin, Kemerer and Young) on the roster, when they weren't wrestling PSU kids.

I know there is satisfaction within that room when Iowa is face stomped and so they will remain an in-season focus for a while longer, but they are close to being viewed as just another wrestle-thru match. IMO, that would be the ultimate snub.

It's kind of sad that Penn State only wrestles cupcakes like Duke, Binghamton and Iowa.

It's also kind of sad that there's been a conflict with Iran as they are probably the only team that would have a puncher's chance against Penn State unless you count Penn State's backups.

Nice callback to Tom Brands' cupcake comment after last year's 30-8 duals loss to PSU and this ChatGPT assessment of Iowa Wrestling.

I don’t understand how it’s growing with intensity for Cornell, have you seen their lineup? Nc state too. Noted that you are fine with Lehigh but OK and WVU are stronger than Cornell and NCS.

But last year was more or less beyond reproach(subjectively of course). They scheduled Stanford so at end of day along with conference probably had half of top ten on schedule

But again tbf what hurts them is that 12/20 date where no one is available. But we aren’t going to be like Ohio State and peak at National Duals on 12/13.
