Soooo. You're saying that OSU is looking at 5 out of 29 after this weekend?
I don't think our D is quite to the level of the last 4 years or so. I think it will take a bit more.
I'm on record that I think it'll take 28 to win. I think we can hold them to 27, but that's the absolute best. I don't envision any scenario, barring a 2017 Woodshed, that we can hold them to under 27 points.
The hawks have been depending on their defense and special teams heavily starting in 2021 so that stat seems reasonable. If the hawks dont have turnovers, drop passes all over the place, run block well, and dont have a bunch of penalties I think they can win or be close. But it will need to be a very clean game by Iowa to do it because OSU has the scoring power.
I think, to win:
* We MUST win the turnover battle
* Probably need a TD from the defense OR special teams
* Probably have to hold them to more FGs than TDs. Example: 3 FGs and 2 TDs = 23 points given up.
If we do all 3 things? We might be 5-0, a top 10 team and talking an @EvilMonkeyInTheCloset NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHP!!!
I think for Iowa to win, their only real chance is if they score more points than their opponent. If not, then I see very little chance of victory. Nearly zero in fact.
Very astute observation. I had basically the same opinion but was reluctant to post it.
I know that some on here will disagree with this opinion, but I've never been one to shy away from controversial takes if I believe that it's the truth.
I don't know how he can argue with this though. I've done my research and stand behind my statement.
I have him on ignore, but I don't think logic ever gets in the way of his arguments.
You must have missed the Western Michigan vs Michigan game.
We need to look at this one as we have nothing to lose. Everyone expects us to lose. Let it rip.
Fun fact (or not): Iowa has beaten both Michigan and Ohio State in the same football season only once…in 1962.
Like we needed more proof that special teams and defensive play, and scores have been the fundamental reason for most of those wins.
As to the scoring 20 points? We've always had a hard time scoring more than 20 points against anyone with a pulse. Today I think the key number is 28 points either way, I'm not certain but I'm hopeful we will hold Ohio State under 30. Now as for us scoring, I think we have to hit at least 28 to come out of this with the win. Another game where we will need special teams and/or defense to score at least one for us.
It took special teams to beat Michigan last week and after seeing what Michigan is today against Minnesota, I think we may have s*** the bed by almost losing to a very bad Michigan team. Or we just psychologically Jedi mind raped them for their entire season. I'm hoping it's the latter.
