A successful JF at VT isn't a good thing for Penn State. The optics of JF winning more games at VT than MC winning at PS isn't going to help us at all. Plus, JF will lock down recruiting in the VA/MD area - while MC is out chasing kids in Iowa and Nebraska.
You may very well be correct on this but of course I’m not an important enough butterfly to affect anything.

Franklin's squad was down 14-6 after giving up a TD in the 4th quarter of their last game ... against BC (not a great team, but Kraft's old stomping grounds), in horrible weather - a Nor'easter. They came back to score 2 TDs, including converting a 2-point conversion to tie it, and won that game. Must have been a good feeling for James to come from behind in the 4th. I bet O'Brien and Franklin shared a beer and commiserated about the PSU "fans" after that game.

Both fanbases were naturally cheering our loss to Wisconsin. VT fans have a sick obsession with PSU and seemingly are assuming our wins from the Franklin years. If social media and message forums did not exist, I would be rooting for VT. Knowing the mentality of the VT fans with Franklin there, I may have Pitt as a slight favorite.

Why do I feel a Pin Stripe bowl coming for PSU against either of them.

How could you possibly root against a Pennsylvania guy with a Penn State heart? Easily - go Pitt (actually, never had an issue with Pitt and as a Western PA guy I liked watching them since they always had a lot of WPIAL guys on the team). Honestly don’t care much either way.
I’m hoping this is sarcasm.

Pitt has always been inconsequential to me. Western PA is really just eastern OH, and completely irrelevant to PA. I don't root against them, because I don't think about them. I still like Franklin and will root for him as long as his interests don't directly conflict with those of Penn State (just like with O'Brien), so go Hokies. All the Mean Girl Franklin-haters and Paterno State fans are worse than Pitt fans on their best/worst anti-PSU days.

I’d root for Pitt against Texas or ND. Otherwise, go Hokies.
+1. Texas is now my number one hate, loathe and detest team. I think Sark is a dirt bag and Simmons is not far behind, Manning, is overrated.

As a western PA buy, myself, I hate all things associated with Pitt and Duzz is an *******..
I was raised through our hate of each other in the 70's and 80's, you know back when that rivalry actually meant something.

It will be interesting to see if Franklin’s inability to close out games will follow him to Blacksburg. Who knows?

Also, full disclosure: Franklin and I both graduated Neshaminy HS. How this factors into my feelings about Franklin I have no idea, so don’t ask. ;)
He closed out the BC game pretty good. I like that VT RB, TE and Oh yeah that QB. ;)
I thought the VT RB was better than our group. 🤷‍♂️

They each have to stand on their own. Even if VT doesn't go 10-2, HCMC has an uphill battle recruiting in the DMV with no prvious relationships like CJF has already built.

I never thought I’d say this, but I’m rooting for Pitt. My daughter is a UVA grad, and the VT fans are insufferable.
