Will SEC officiating allow us to beat an undefeated Bama?....

I say no. Seen this movie too many times. Remember, SEC officials are the same bunch that allowed THIS crap to stand that could have cost Leach the HoF because he needed this win to have gone above the 50% threshold. This might be the most egregious SEC officiating call I've ever seen and the sad part was it was SEC officials screwing us against a NON-SEC team. The Bama game calls we've been hosed on like the Calvin Ridley running out of bounds and back in in 2017 to set up a TD have been widely discussed.

It’s normally death by a thousand cuts. Phantom holding calls and pass interference are their bread and butter, but there are many examples of some truly awful examples of them controlling a tight game. 1963, we lost 20-19 in Tuscaloosa. They used yellow chalk to mark the goal line and our running back, I think it was Lynn Zerainge, scored on a short run. He had yellow chalk on his uniform at the waist. We were sitting low right on the goal line. He clearly scored. The officials huddled in a panic and finally one of them grabbed the ball, Put it on the 2 and signaled first down Alabama. It wasn’t even 4th down. No explanation. Just a giant 17 you. Late 1960’s, another close game in Tuscaloosa and Alabama goes for it on 4th down and comes up short so they gave them another 4th down and they made it. I expect that if they had come up short again they would have given them a 3rd 4th down. So many memories and none of them good. I hate Alabama and SEC officials. They both suck.

In a 12 team Playoff era, can’t you make an argument that it is better for the SEC if we win and it adds one more team to the Playoff mix?

Devil’s advocate - all our previous games against Bama were before this playoff model.

MSU has been getting grudge 17'd by SEC Officials in every sport as long as the SEC has been in existence.

The 17 job WMU got in The Big House would not even make the top 10 list of SEC Officials screwing over MSU.

I can accept some level of incompetence, but incompetence would level out between opponents over time.

My parents were good friends with a older couple that were big MSU fans. They started taking me to football & basketball games in the the early 70's. The old dude told me back then "If you want to beat Alabama in Tuscaloosa, you need to have the ball with 5 minutes left & be ahead 3 scores, otherwise the referees will find a way to screw you"

With our current level of hype they will have to be less obvious than usual plus Deboer ain’t Saban. We have a better chance than we’ve had in a long time but we’ll have to play a lot better than the last game.

True, but you have certain officials that don’t care and are not held accountable. The one guy whose Grandfather played quarterback for Bear Bryant, I think his name is Skelton, always has their back no matter what. I believe that he is the one that said oh never mind when Calvin Ridley scored a few years back. He will throw a flag from 40 yards away when the official on top of the play doesn’t call anything. There are others but he is the worst.

I don't know but Bama is not Bama without Saban. The SEC has three guys who could win the Heisman and none of them are on Bama's team. KT has become a league favorite. Maybe he gets us a pass. No pun intended.

There were years where Bama was carrying the SEC banner by themselves. That's not the case anymore. I feel like Texas and Georgia are more of the SEC darlings now than Bama.

Nope. Gonna get screwed by both entities. Same people that’s been doing it to you all these years. We’ve got to move them out of Birmingham. Send the HQ and replay to Charlotte with the rest of it.

I've kinda wondered if Deboer could be on unstable enough ground that the powers that be instruct the refs to call a fair game

Although the Memphis call was correct, they will not.

The Memphis call was not correct. The official was indicating the play was dead, but choked on his whistle. Even if the play wasn't dead , during the run back there were about 40 Memphis players on the field and no flag was thrown, so it should have at the least been a penalty for that.

We'll have to win convincingly to remove any chance of a phantom call. a 10 point win would be glorious. If it's a 3 point game down the stretch you know Bama will get all the calls and chances to win

You're right. He did signal to stop the clock. Should be like an inadvertent whistle I think. Letting the Memphis player pick up the ball and run was correct but the signal should have killed the play.

Not only that, but the officials huddled for a long while after the play to discuss what happened, and the piece of **** that signaled it dead refused to own up to it even then. I don't expect perfection, but if you screw up as an official, at least own up to it so that the right call can be made. I wish him nothing but the worst in his career aspirations

When I spoke to the head of officials after the USC game after 9/11. Mario Haggan was about to tackle their QB at the 5 and their OL player grabbed his shoulder pads from behind and clothes lined him. His response, "We are a let them play conference"! Yep, everybody else gets the let 'em play treatment especially Bummer. We get the penalty.

They also had 2 players with the same number on the field at the same time!

So when the ref throws down his bean bag down and waves his hands above his head that doesn't signal the play is dead? When the ball is resting after a punt and is touched down by the punting team that doesn't end the play? Pretty sure that crew got suspended over that so I doubt that would have happened over a correct call. So the only way a ball is dead after a punt is to pick the ball up and hand it to the referee? I've literally watched hundreds of football games where the punting team downs the ball by touching it when it is just resting on the ground.
