Wait, wut?! I thought Trump & Co. had closed and secured our southern border. Isn't there a Big Beautiful Wall running its entire length by now? Didn't Steve Bannon raise a whole bunch of private money for that Wall? Oh, wait. Bannon stole that money.
Do you not understand that electing a Democratic Congress would cause the border to magically re-open?

Dems literally tried to codify Biden and Harris’s open border failures into law prior to the 2024 election lol

Actually, that was Dems and Republicans. That was bipartisan legislation there, Skippy. Of course, Trump wanted to run on the border, so he commanded the Republicans not to do it.

It was a terrible bill. 5k encounters per day before measures were raised. We’re averaging 278 per day in 2026. We didn’t need trash legislation to get there.

In the 2024 bipartisan Senate border bill backed by the Biden administration, the key number was 5,000 encounters per day, averaged over seven consecutive days.

More precisely:

  • At a 7-day average of 4,000 encounters/day, the DHS secretary could activate the new “border emergency authority.”
  • At a 7-day average of 5,000 encounters/day, DHS would be required to activate it.
  • If encounters reached 8,500 on any single day, activation would also be mandatory. Those thresholds appear directly in the bill text.
  • Once activated, the emergency authority would allow DHS to rapidly remove or turn away many migrants crossing between ports of entry and substantially restrict access to asylum.

Yep. And when a dem becomes president in 2028, they can override Trump's executive order on immigration their first day. Legislation done by Congress is the only thing that actually can stick. I still think allowing migrants in is the right thing to do. It's what we've always done. A limit of 5,000 is not that many, just as the cattle ranchers who are now complaining that they don't have labor

been down this path before....one Republican....

Before trump, house said bill would not be brought to the floor....this legislation was dead before it got to Senate floor.

If you want to have bipartisan legislation that will pass (kind of essential in the process) you have to have Senate, house and white house on board...one out of three won't cut it. You're smart enough to to know that this legislation in Senate form wouldn't even pass the Senate, much less the house.

it's not what we've always done...there have been limits on the number of people who were given access each year. I doubt we've ever had a situation like during the Biden admin

Was COVID SO BAD in May 2023?

The Biden administration officially lifted the pandemic-era Title 42 border restrictions at 11:59 PM EDT on May 11, 2023, alongside the expiration of the federal COVID-19 public health emergency. https://hias.org/news/end-title-42-five-key-takeaways/

Mexico and the United States achieved comparable overall COVID-19 vaccination coverage over the course of the pandemic, despite a stark early-stage disparity in 2021. [1, 2]
