Yesterday brought me back to my childhood. 1987 Iowa at Ohio State. Who remembers?

I remember exactly where I was. ( see some other thread...). Any win at the the Horseshoe or the Big House is great, but that OSU team was lousy, went 6-4-1 and Earl Bruce was fired during the season but was allowed to stay on, beating Michigan in the finale. He then came back to Iowa ( after 5 years in Ames ) to coach Northern Iowa...

Sorry I missed the thread you’re referring to if it was recently posted. So many go up over a football weekend and I don’t catch them all.

I agree with you. And FTR, I don’t believe this Michigan team will be better than 8-4 this year, and possibly 7-5 if Penn State gets their crap together.

Regardless, as you said, any win at the Big House or the Shoe is a good one. No matter the year, it’s almost a given both Ohio State and Michigan will have more depth and talent up and down their rosters than Iowa, even in their down years of only winning 6-8 games. Lol.

Good thing no replay was around then... we deserved it no matter what but very close. I think the 91 win in Columbus was more cherishing just because of everything that happened in IC the day before...
The Gang Lu shooting? Oh wow. I had completely forgotten about that. I was 10 in 1991. But I now remember it being all over the news.

It was also a nice win given how the 1990 Ohio State game had ended. I will never forget that. Iowa intercepting a Hail Mary type pass in the end zone instead of batting it down. Ending up losing that game really sucked.

Wait…is 1991 the last time Iowa won at the Shoe?

Yep. '91, '87 and 1959... I too was there in '91, after driving through off and on snow showers all day Friday, then drinking beer at the Varsity Club when we heard about the shooting and possible cancellation of the game.

They probably would have canceled the game had our team not already been in Columbus. Gang Lu was apparently going after UI President Hunter Rawlins but he lived because he was already in Columbus for the game...
