You get the ball where you fair caught it. Oops. WJ wins the game but may have r lost their qb who tried to make a tackle after he threw a late pick 6. Not smart.

Yeah there is some weird stuff that happens in high school football.
I once saw a 98 yard kickoff return that:
1. Did not result in a score (received at the 1 and tackled at the 1)
2. the ensuing drive resulted in a punt. (2 penalties, 2 sacks)

In the Pearl v Germantown game last night, Pearl punted to the GT 4. Receiver signals fair catch, but muffed the punt and Pearl recovered. But wait, the ref blew his whistle during the scrum, so they replayed the down and the punt went for a touchback.
This feels like the Croomiest thing I’ve ever read
It was either Anthony Dixon's junior or senior season at Terry and we were playing away at some outmatched school (can't remember who). We got the ball first and the other team jumped offside twice in a row before we could even get one play off. The refs got together and determined it was 1st and inches!
Years ago I think it was when Petal was in the state championship game or playoffs. I’m sure someone remembers, but they were kicking a Fg to win the game. They made the kick but defense was offsides, they couldn’t decline it so they kicked it again and didn’t make it, so they lost.
I know there’s a huge shortage of refs so I’m really glad the ones doing it are doing it. But man, hs refs overall are pretty bad. And i know it’s harder than you’d think to referee a game. But I’d like to think I’d at least take the time to know the basic rules.
That said, I once briefly thought about getting certified to ref soccer. I quickly thought about how that would go traveling to small towns across the state, refereeing games all day & getting yelled at by coaches & parents from both teams. All for very little pay. Needless to say I did not get certified.
That actually is a dead ball. Once the kick ends on an extra point, the ball is dead.

My old hs team once faced a first down and one yard to go situation after the opposing team received 2x 5 yard penalties assessed pre-snap from the spot of the ball
We once had three consecutive holding penalties (back when it was 15 yards), we had a 1st and 45.
My junior year in 1998 I think we were playing Kosciusko and punted to them. The guy muffed the punt and the ball popped right up into our gunner’s hands who kept running 50yds all the way to the end zone. Referees got together and determined it was a TD. Guy never had possession at all. It went straight thru his hands.
Probably the other craziest one I was a part of was more about what happened during the game and the ending score. We played Meridian Kate Griffin my 9th grade year. During first half lights went out on the stadium and shots were fired. We all hit the ground on the field. After they determined it was safe they resumed the game (crazy). We were up 14-12 with 55 seconds left in the game. Ended up winning 35-12. Next play our RB scores from 50. We kickoff and they fumble we pick it up and run it back. Kickoff again for touchback. They run a swing pass first play. We pick it off and run it back for another touchdown. Craziest game. Who continues a game after shots fired!!
I also took a refs certification course in soccer. The full-day course was 1% rules of soccer and 99% how to handle irate parents and coaches.
