while I was rather ticked off earlier and openly advocated for Beamer to be fired, and name Briles as interim, I should not have allowed my disappointment/emotions to get the better of me. It is however time to move on from Sellers as qb, he is not an elite qb, not even a good qb in my opinion, he screws up too much. Please give someone else a chance, real competition is a great tool to get everyone working to improve.
It should happen but it won't. I think it has to do with NIL resources. Who wants to pay $4 million for a guy to ride the bench.

I agree that that probably plays into and influences such decisions greatly! The flip side of that is, what is all of that money worth anyway if a personnel change would result in a vastly improved team and likely more wins? (Not arguing with you - just playing devil's advocate/pointing out another take. ✌️) Tough call and one of the million reasons paying players sucks.

6-5 and beats Clemson he keeps job. 6-5 and loses to Clemson 50/50. 5-6 or less probably goodbye. So, we need at least 5 wins before Clemson, doable.

If we lose to Bama and spiral with losses to UK and UF, that'll put us at 2-4 (0-4). The season will be lost at that point. We have a bye after UF, so that would be the logical time. BUT the buyout complicates things. We save a good bit of money by waiting until after 12/31 to fire him. BUT waiting would screw up recruiting and the portal. For sure a bunch of recruits would hit the portal after we fired him and we'd have to move quick b/c the portal would close just a couple weeks later.

We either have to pay up to do it midseason or be willing to wait, save money and write off next season b/c of the impact to the roster.

Basing that decision on recruits or current players' actions is foolish. Any time you fire a head coach you will lose players and recruits. I think we beat UK and go to UF 3-2. I think between OU, Arkansas and aTm, we find 2 more wins to be 5-6 going to Clemson. A win at Clemson and Beamer is safe at home. Then, it will be all bowl talk and happiness.

It's much trickier now though than it used to be when NSD was just in February. Now all the good recruits mostly make their decisions by/before the early signing period in December. I'm not saying that should be a factor in whether or not we fire him, but there are timing issues now that didn't used to be there b/c of how recruiting has changed. Previously, if you fired a guy in November, there was a solid 2 months for him to hit recruiting hard.

I understand all of that, but hanging on to a coach who isn't performing in order to save a recruiting class is a bad idea. Recruits and players come and go and some (quite a few really) recruits don't pan out into the great players everyone thinks they are going to be. Losing some recruits or players is a small price to pay for an upgrade in coaching.

Didn't we just keep an OL ciach for a while because of "good recruiting"?

I agree though. The portal messes up the transition, but you cant keep a coach for that reason.

Unless the new hire is a home run name that excites players and draws recruits, I think you have to accept that season one is going to be a write off with a new coach. Season two should show a lot of what you have with the new coach.

I'd buy that for a dollar.

(10 points if you get the movie reference without looking it up.)

With the way the portal is, not firing a coach because you're worried about keeping a recruiting class together is foolish. How many of those guys are staying around even if you're not looking at a potential coaching change? Not including special teams, right now, 20 of the 44 man two deep depth chart for the Gamecocks are transfers. Recruiting will always be important but until this transfer madness is reigned in (if it ever is) then recruiting has lost some significance.

Yes, some of our fans were even leery of letting him go last season b/c he's a good recruiter.

the shame in all of this for me, is we finally have a really good offensive staff, the best we have had since the middle of Spurrier's tenure. As someone else pointed out, in all likelyhood, in firing Beamer, we would lose these high caliber assistants and I really don't to see that happen. I am really impressed with our new offensive coaches. Beamer just needs to be more flexible with our qb situation and allow for fair and open competition; NIL money be damned.

He is not Sellers agent. If Sellers struggles against Bama, he needs to put Woods in and see how he looks. If Sellers plays the whole game and they lose, then Beamer needs to be fired after the game. One player is not bigger than the team.

We should keep him until the optimum moment to fire him financially. We should order RT to help Beamer pack and move to his next position coaching job.
