Great question. You'd think our guys would first look to the NFL stars for contribution. Makes way more sense than asking random Joe Alumni.

I’ve often wondered how the pre-NIL players feel about these kids making big bucks. Of course Jones has made his money, but for some I’d understand if there was some jealousy.

It might not be well-known, but the people that I trust close to the program have said that Dak and Simmons have been involved with Kamario already and are willing to be competitive in NIL. There's no question that we've reached out to our former players for participation.
This is more about the momentum of Kamario. Jones is being coy here. He might be interested in giving $ now that there is something to invest in. Hopefully, we're getting buy-in from more of our stars. Big Play Slay and Fletch would definitely be on my call list.

We simply have to go all-in for 2027. We've been given a gift in Kamario. Every dollar available needs to go toward making the 2027 team a juggernaut. The chance won't come around again possibly ever. I'd focus on the top DL, OL & CB (we're going to lose Kellie Jones) in the portal and spend a significant portion there. The rest on retention of our best playmakers.

Offense loses Boone, Evans, and Johnson to eligibility. Everyone else is eligible to come back. We need to find a starting center, a starting or back-up LT, and some OL depth. We need to find another playmaking WR, but we have some good ones already on the roster. 100% Retention plus a very few key additions keeps the offense elite for next year. The defense, on the other hand, is gutted. We need starters at every level, with the heaviest focus on DL and DBs. That is where we really need to open the pocket book, in my opinion.
For the record, I favor the Cignetti approach. Production over potential. Find experienced players who have been producing for years, no matter where they are playing. You're from JMU? Great, come on down if you have the experience and stats. Sprinkle in a few "potential" guys that were 4 or 5 stars, but buried on the depth chart at a blue blood.
I was saying the same thing this morning. Try to buy one while we can, and before they "fix" all the NIL and transfer rules. We need to stack a team around KT, and as you said, shoot our shot.
I should have added sarcasteriks to my original comments on this thread. I cannot imagine a scenario where our administration is not consistently reaching out to former players that are in or have been in the NFL.
It is impossible to attain the level of fundraising success that MSU Athletics has experienced over the last 24-36 months without initiating a lot of conversations with alumni & boosters that have significant financial resources & it would be way too logical to assume former players that have made 9 figures in the NFL are part of that group.
