A snapshot:

Each coach’s last 10 games vs Power Conference teams:

Muschamp 2-8 in year 5
Beamer 1-9 in year 6 (with Bama on deck)

We fired Muschamp for that collapse. He was 4-8 the year before rhat 2-8 fall, Beamer was 4-8 last year.

Things are actually worse under Beamer, and he has better talent on the roster

Beamer buyout this season: $27mil
Next season: $21mil

He's still in the Top 5 all time in winning % and an SC coach.

Top 2 for SEC Play.

Brought in a good class this season. (7th in SEC)

Can't see it happening this year unless fans and players and donors jump ship.

Beamer is gone this year if he can't turn things around in a hurry. He probably won't make it past the bye week.

So, Muschamps buyout was $12.9 million according to the googler. (Agreed settlement)

Beamers will be $20+ million. - ish.

It's almost as if the administration / bot / AD / could have spent that combined $33 million ish on a much better coach on the front end. I dunno. Maybe it's just me.

From what I have read the buyout goes down after every paycheck. Not a sudden decline from 27 to 21.

Those stats are pretty depressing.

I don't see him getting fired until after the season, if it happens at all. If he can manage 6 wins, he is safe. That will mean a trip to a crap bowl and that will fire up the fans, even if we lose the bowl game.

If he pulls another 4 win season it's possible.

Beamer is largely an ornament who is there to staff, recruit and bring in funding.

He's actually done a good job of that.

He's recruited well -- especially of late.

White has been a good DC overall.

Most seemed to like the OC hire this year.

If you break down that 1-9 P4 record, there's one team who we lost to who didn't have superior talent (MSU).

The schedule has been brutal overall and his teams aren't getting blown out like Muschamp's teams were at the end.

The ultimate question is whether the AD/Donors want to spend $30 million for a coaching turnover or push it to talent on the field.

If you look at SEC conference records since the NIL, most of them are incredibly tied to exactly how they recruit.

At the end of the day, it's a silly game until they regulate/cap it and coaching no longer moves the marker much at all.

With that said, losing to MSU at WB is definitely a black eye for the staff and program after last year's performance so they're going to need to pick a big win up or prepare to feel the heat.

Y'all remember that one idiot who used to show up here telling us how Beamer's record was on pace to have him be the best coach at SC? That had to have been Shane himself.
No - I remember someone stating that he currently had the best record in history going into Year 5. That was true and how he got the contract extension. You might need to feed that Belly better so your brain starts working.

While true, that record still wasn't great compared to the upper tier SEC programs. He got the contract extension and raise because Tanner was a fool. No one was even hinting at trying to hire Beamer away.

He got paid industry avg. for his achievements which is what we do. My issue is the buyout. There needs to be "if you stink up the place" clause stating that the coach would take a significant deduction if that happened -- which happens often with these big contracts.

No argument from me on any of that, except the industry average thing. He really hadn't done anything to warrant another big raise and extension. If he had managed to maintain the momentum from 2024, the situation would have been different.

I don’t pretend to have any inside information (as if anyone on a forum really does) but I wonder if Virginia Tech was interested in Beamer?

Either way, it seems premature to offer an extension at that juncture in Tanner‘s career. Surely, he knew he was stepping away from the AD job.

He did have the best record in school history after 4 seasons and that 4th season was as exciting as we've had except for maybe a year or two under Spurrier. The Sellers/Rocket tandem and that awesome D had us as the hottest team in the country in the media.

Beamer simply struck gold with the timing of it all. They had to extent it that year either way and his team put on a big show and he inked the deal of his lifetime.

Beamer worse than Chump and everyone wanted to run Chump out of town on a rail. But for some reason our fans have a lot of sympathy for Beamer? I guess it is because of his huge buyout and the fact that we still cannot afford to replace him?

I think it is because Beamer is a likable, cheerleader type and Muschamp was prickly, grumpy and reserved. It all comes down to personality.

@Piscis is on to something and I think you are right, too. . . the buyout precludes dumping him now and hiring a new coach.

Reviewing what happened with MBB:
Donati didn’t fire Paris last year and we all assumed it was because he was looking ahead to this year knowing Beamer might fail, and he couldn’t afford to fire Paris last year and follow up with firing Beamer this year. Maybe, just maybe, Donati has enough financial backing to fire Paris after this year and Beamer next year.

That's an interesting observation. With Muschamp, it certainly felt like nothing was moving in a position direction with the program. Maybe it just doesn't feel as bad with Beamer because of the talent and potential on the roster. Of course this may be the very reason it is actually worse now.

I remember a lot of that. He was within X games of Spurrier. He had the most wins after 4 years. The 4 year thing was my favorite because Muschamp supporters used to say the same about him after 3 years. And none liked to acknowledge the impact of the 13 game schedule on total number of wins.

Nah, it's not that. - It's because as far as I know and can remember going all the way back to the early 80's - Beamer is the first coach that actually wants to be here and is not using the job for a paycheck or a stepping stone to another school. - When he says he wants to be in Columbia and that it's his dream job, we actually believe him. That's what it is.

Let's be honest here - It would be awesome if any coach of our FB team was actually successful and wanted to be here and nowhere else. It'd be one less thing to worry about. So, I think that is where the sympathy, wishful thinking (?), etc is coming from. It would be great for Beamer, USC, the fans, etc if we didn't lose another game this season....would it not? - But that is not looking likely at this point. JMHO

I could "want to be here" at a LOT of places for the millions we paid to this guy.
