Inject this into my veins.
That's really not surprising to me. We have two road P4 wins, including one where we demolished them, and a blowout of a G5 team. Most teams schedules haven't given them the opportunity to put together a resume that strong, even acknowledging that the P4 teams we beat aren't strong ones.
We've probably already had too many injuries on D for us to recover from, but I think had we stayed healthy, we legitimately were a top 15 team, with the only real weakness being DL depth and OL. I think on a more normal team losing Williams and Moye wouldn't be that big of a deal, as the drop off to replacement players wouldn't be that big. But we just don't have the talent there.
This isn't a prediction. It's just based on current resume, and most teams have probably played two cupcakes at this point, and the ones that haven't probably haven't had two road games at P4 teams. You've got to think most non-sec teams are only playing 3 good games a year, so it's not really surprising that two road P4 wins puts us near the top of the pack at this point. I assume it's also possible those wins may be devalued over time. I think USCe's stats are much better than they are at this point.#5? I dont understand how/why any 'model' would place us there.
We have won twice on the road against large conference teams, but that is pretty much all I can see that would put us anywhere near the green shading of this picture...and certainly not #5.
We have to play...
#19 Mizzou
#8 Bama
#10 LSU on the road
#1 Texas on the road
#4 Ole Miss on the road
8 of our remaining games are against teams that are in the green shading of this picture.
We would need to win the 4 games against unranked teams and win 3 of the 5 games listed above...right?
Am I really undervaluing MSU here?
The short answer is:#5? I dont understand how/why any 'model' would place us there.
