Every remaining game after Indiana is Winnable

Saturdays result gives me hope. If we play with the same effort and determination, we will win some games. Priority #1 is cutting down on the turnovers. Dylan Lonergan wasn’t used to USC speed, so he tried to rifle the ball into Duff, which allowed the USC player to jump the route and return the ball for a Pick-6. The safety was reading his eyes the whole time, and Dylan stared down the receiver, leading to the turnover.

Thankfully, no one else has USC talent or athleticism, so hopefully we will continue to cut down on the turnovers.

Our remaining games are:

Howard- W
Indiana-L
Maryland- W
Northwestern-W
Michigan-W
Wisconsin- L
Nebraska- W
Penn State-L
MSU- W

That’s a final record of 6-6. Beating Indiana, though not expected, would make things a lot easier.

At this point beating Maryland, Northwestern, Michigan, Nebraska and MSU are not exactly expected either. We could win some of those games, which would be great and would help make this season a little more enjoyable to watch, but I wouldn’t bet on Rutgers winning all of those games or even most of those games.

I expect to beat Maryland and MSU. Every other game is 50/50. Have to have Maryland and Northwestern, for starters.

You can't give a "mulligan" because we don't have the talent to beat UMass or BC and also expect that same talent to be competitive in the B1G and go 5-4 in conference.

The talent is developing and getting better with every rep and every game. I sure hope we go 5-4, but there are no guarantees.

Athan was replaced with a kid still learning the game. Bo Mascoe was replaced with a kid who doesn’t have great ball skills. We clearly lost more than we gained so we’re doing our best with what we have.

Schiano picked Lonergan to replace Athan. Longergan is a Senior. His backup is Surace who is a Junior and has been with the program for several years. Regardless of NIL - if either of these guys are at the point of ineffectiveness purely because they are "learning the game" then that's an indictment against Schiano for what is the most important position on the field. Schiano has been at RU overall for 17 or 18 years and is being paid >$6.5M per season. I would think that anyone with that level of experience and pay should know and understand applicable replacement or development strategies for a QB (Athan) who was here for several years. It's not as if Athan left RU suddenly in the lerch.

Surace, despite 3 years in the program with the same coach, has not been developed or even learned the position. Mascoe wasn't exactly Jack Tatum last season.

Neither QB has many game reps. Mascoe was our #1 corner last season and is dearly missed. He covered Jeremiah Smith well enough to help Texas beat Ohio State.

Texas has a real defense. Lack of game reps doesn't explain 10 interceptions in 3 games. Poor preparation and bad coaching do, though.

Great points. I think we're 3-0 right now if we had a state of the art field house, and we'd be ranked top 25 if they ever finished the Death Star. Greg Schiano has done wonderful and has a thick package but we have NOT given him the support he needs to compete.

We all need to do our part and donate everything we have to help afford these things and the additional staffers the program requires!!!
