Z is a grown man and doesn't live with DT.

Z easily has another 2 cycles in him. He doesn't get hurt, can train hard and is just so unbelievably athletic. But if he can't figure out that he needs to live clean, it's not going to matter.

He seemed to have adequate motivation last year--his gas tank issues just weren't there. Maybe he'll be able to lock in again for the Olympic year. Even DT has talked about experiencing a motivation let-down after winning his first world (and Olympic) title. I can't imagine the dedication it takes to do everything right year in and year out in this sport. Those who seem to do best with it have embraced it as a way way of life (I think of Burroughs, Dake and Snyder). It's clear Zahid hasn't been able to do that, and is not likely to. But he can probably keep it together for individual years again.

The whole thing is a "slap the Olympic sport on the hand to show everybody the NCAA is still a a relevant entity".

It is barely relevant. Mostly it's purpose is to make up silly rules, get sued and pay a few dozen adults a much higher salary than they could ever get someplace else.
