I always thought he was a good play caller. I feel like he’s grown a lot as a program manager. The coaching upgrades were a huge deal. Also the fact that our portal adds were largely P4 transfers instead of just taking whoever we could find from Akron or Kennesaw State has made a big difference, IMO.

I've always liked his offense. It's his decision-making that's always been a problem. It hasn't necessarily improved; he just has a once in a generation QB to help mask it. The margin for error gets much slimmer going forward.
He's given himself a pathway to six wins. That's what he needed to do to keep his job. If he can figure out how to go and get one or two that he isn't supposed to, it'll be a job well done.
Injuries are a concern. We lost a key DL depth piece last weekend.

Yeah, I think with the way things played out this weekend, we’re probably favorites over Mizzou, Auburn, Vandy and obviously TN Tech with maybe a pickem with Oklahoma if the lines were set today. Obvious underdog to Bama, LSU, Texas and OM.
Things have really changed from what those expectations would have been preseason.
I will take "letting them back in the game" and walking out of there with a W over "still playing aggressive" against Texas and Florida last year ANY DAY. I feel like Lebby is learning on the job.

I've never heard of this guy, and in general there are almost too many film study guys for me to keep up with, but I like his analysis. He points out some little things that are easy to miss but doesn't come across as too coach speak-y. Pretty good.
I'm not sure it mattered much who the head coach was to get KT to Starkville. But I think it's obvious he really likes Lebby and is doing great in this offense. So Lebby could very much be a key to keeping him in Starkville for next year.
Much can change between now and late Oct, but I can't imagine anyone that has watched us and Oklahoma play and think that OU is going to come out of Starkville with a win.
I think OU has a great defense. But man, that offense is ugly as it gets. I think both teams will struggle against the other defense, but we just have so many more weapons at the offensive skill positions, it's going to be hard to contain them for 60 minutes.
His offenses have always performed, so I always believed he possesses a good if not great offensive mind. Him being a former OL himself, I also believed in him finding a way to field a OL better than the talent we see in the recruiting ranking. I thought his defenses would be dependent on the DC. State was in a mess and he was going to have issues getting a really good DC when he brought in Hutzler. I thought that was as much about State's issues as it was about Lebby.
Getting Arnett back was a good move. I like this coaching staff more with every win, keep winning and I will be even more excited.
That bidding war with LSU with that LT from Colorado may not have ended differently as LSU was spending tens of million like they were giving out candy at Halloween but I am willing to bet some guys didn't come here because of the lack of success the last few years. That should change.

I have felt that he would need this year, and also, that he needed some "in-game" management training...... but I don't think I was ever "all is lost" with him.....
Main reason was seeing how his players speak of him and how we fought last year (close games).....I felt like there was something for us to work with and grow into with him

I'm not trying to pick on you, but that's not how this stuff works. We may be favored in the 5 games that you listed, but winning all 5 of them is still not very likely from a statistical point of view. Here's the latest breakdown, and for the record, I do think 7-8 wins is well within reach barring major injuries
I understand feeling that way. I’m just saying how I think the outside world would set a line today. They’re still a Top 10 to 15 team in most any poll you look at and we’re not.
Hopefully that gets reversed soon.

Lebby fixed our issue - defensive coordinator. We could score - even with Shapen.
I would say the offense took a big step up too though. We were 86th in scoring offense in 2024, 42nd last year, now 10th nationally. And we’re second in total offense behind only Miami.
We’ll see where the dust settles but this may end up being statistically our best offense in school history.
Well when you have have a generational QB who can hide deficiencies - that's a good thing.
Helps a ton, but we are also running the ball way better than we have under Lebby and Kamario is less a part of that than most expected.
I had hoped and kind of expected we'd be reigning in the Kamario Taylor running this year. He's just too valuable to risk an injury. Wasn't completely convinced how successful we'd be since players with his talent tend to tuck and run quickly. But he seems to be a very coachable player. I'm not seeing anywhere near the growing pains you'd expect for a player who still only has 5 starts in his career.
That's also because we have an extra runner (Kamario) who you have to respect. Running with 180 pound Shapen wasn't putting fear into a DC even though we did it a lot last year. That was the most frustrating thing about Lebby last year was his insistence to try and run Shapen to gain yardage.
I liked Shapen a lot better than most on here did. But in addition to Lebby's insane insistence on running him, he seemed determined to prove how tough he was by taking defenders on. And both of their stupidity bit us in the a$$ in 2024.
Shapen just wasnt athletic enough to run. There have been plenty of dangerous 180 pound running qbs in college. And as far as the constant second guessing the coaches decision, sometimes your guy just cant get it done, doesn't throw it right, etc. If it works you are an offensive genius. If your QB throws it to the linebacker you are a moron. I mean he gets paid to be a coach. I don't. There is probly a reason for that.

…which means Early Head Coach Lebby reminds me a little of Head Coach Ellis Johnson **

He is a good offensive coach that has had to learn on the job for game management. As long as MSU continued to hire first time head coaches this will be an issue. I think it is helping him this year to have better asst. coaches. I think he can get it done, and most importantly Kamario loves him.
My opinion on him changed when he got rid if that dud Hutzler who he never should've hired in the first place. What an awful, horrendous hire. I knew the day it was announced it was not going to end well.
The simple answer is yes. I said back in the summer that Mr. 77 was slowly winning me over to how good this team could be. And credit due he was right, but we do still have a long way to go. I think Lebby is getting better, but honestly, I am not sure how much of that is him being a changed man, or how much of it is having a generational talent at QB. I hope a little bit of both. I do like Lebby’s enthusiasm and, from all the reports from a few folks that know him personally, he seems to be a nice guy.
Well if there was ever a year to push all of our chips in to NIL and the transfer portal it will be next year. Surely, it will be our last year with KT1 and we have to surround him with as much talent as possible. Hopefully, we can find his replacement in recruiting too and let him sit a year and learn behind a generational talent like him. State has to know our windows and next year is looking like one of them for sure.
I don't see any polls with Oklahoma in the top 20 and there is a pretty good chance they will be 2-4 when we play them. Their next 3 games before they play us are Georgia, Texas, and Kentucky.
This is pretty much how I feel. I'm still not 100% sold just yet, but I'm moving that direction. I really like the hires he made to the coaching staff and analysts in the offseason and he seems to be listening to them. It also clear it helps to have a generational QB, but he put himself in that position and did his job to keep him here and help him progress so much from year 1 to year 2. I also haven't seen nearly as many bone headed decision so far this year. But with all that said, I have to let the season play out and get through some of the tougher part of our schedule to decide.
Yes, you can see it in his eyes and demeanor. First two years he looked lost but now he’s got control of the game. Hopefully that translates into wins, but he’s definitely a better coach
