Women's Golf At Mich St's Mary Fossum Inv - Final Results

The Knights will play their 3rd event of the season at Forest Akers GC in East Lansing hosted by Michigan State. This is the 39th edition of the tournament honoring MSU's late coach and force in building womens college golf.

The Spartans and Kent State come in as the only Top 50 '25-'26 teams. Of course teams can change year by year. Along with RU, other teams in the field of 16 include Delaware, FIU, and the MAC's CMU, WMU, Bowling Green, and Ohio U.

Notes

Lorena Rossettin played her first round of competition in over a year last time out at the Cougar Classic. She finished T22, going 4 Under for the last 2 Rounds.

The team will have a quick turnaround as closer to home, they compete in the Princeton Invitational next Sat-Sun

Weather Issues have caused a change in the tourney. The teams had made it about half way thru the 1st round when storms caused play to be suspended for around 4 hours before play could be resumed. Since there was no way to get 2 rounds in today, they are playing 18 holes today and tomorrow, reducing the event to 36 holes.

The big news is Rutgers Senior, Emily James, was the only player in the field to shoot Under Par the first round, a 1 Under 71. She leads 2 players, Addison Kartusch from Bowling Green and Delaware's Rhianna Goonerante by 1 stroke with 2 others 2 strokes back. James has 1 championship in her resume, the 2025 Rutgers Invitational.

As with most, the team played better before the delay than after. Joline Truong shot 76, Judy Amano 77, Lorena Rossettin 78, and Grace Lu 79.

I had mentioned #32 Kent State was in the field. It turns out they didn't send a full squad, just a few to play as individuals.

Tomorrows Final Round will likely have the Knights paired with Youngstown St and Bowling Green.

Not a great Final round for the team, shooting a 16 Over 304. Doing so the team finished T4 with Youngstown State and at +33, 1 stroke behind Mich St in 3rd.

1st Round leader Emily James shot 80 and finished 8th. Judy Amano and Grace Lu shot 74, finishing 10th and 17th. Joline Truong shot 77 also finishing 17th. Lorena Rossettin shot 79 and finished 38th.

The Knights were 9th in Par 3 scoring, 1st in Par 4 scoring, and 5th in Par 5's. The 1 glaring stat was the team had 21 Double Bogey+, 4 more than any other team in the tourney.

Delaware's Rhianna Goonerante won the individual title shooting Even Par, 2 strokes ahead of Addison Kartusch from Bowling Green.

The team's next tourney, weather permitting, is the Princeton Invitational Saturday and Sunday. Along with the Knights and Tigers in the 13 team field are Seton Hall, St Johns, Georgetown, Harvard, Yale, Penn, Dartmouth, and Columbia.
