I give him a pass on Year 1 too, to an extent, but he did plenty of stupid **** that year that set him back, so yeah, it counts.

He's improving as you would hope and expect that a young inexperienced HC would. Let's keep it up and leverage continued success into more attention and portal effectiveness - especially at DL and OL. If he continues this trajectory he's going to have suitors - I hope the fans see that coming and Selmon is prepared for it. Wild thing to say bc he could get canned at 5 wins or be looking at a big boy contract with 6+. Coaching market is insane.

I liked Lebby from the beginning because I saw the drop-off at Oklahoma when he left. His offense has been good. Like Arnett he made bonehead decision for the opposite side of the ball. If Arnett had stuck with the OC and company things would have been better. Lebby hired an inexperienced DC and it cost him the first 2 years. I'm glad Lebby addressed it before he went down with the ship!
I’m not answering the question until the season is over as Lebby has shown in-season regression in the past.

KT is the difference. But this is where we really have to give Lebby a TON of credit. He built the relationship to get him here - although I am assuming Arnett and maybe even Leach had already identified him.
But you can see how much KT wants to be great and how much he admires what Lebby has done for him.
I think they will have an awesome two years together and hopefully accomplish something very special for our STATE!

My low point with him was after the Florida interception last year. High point was 2nd half yesterday, or ASU LAST YEAR. Opinion is still the same. Good coach. Just haven’t been sure he had or could get the players and depth needed.
I always felt he would eventually be a really good coach. Wasn't sure if it would happen while still coaching at State. The jump from last year to this year has been bigger than I expected.

Did like him bringing in Arnett and other experienced assistants in the offseason, which I’m taking as a sign of growth, but in three years of coaching, I haven’t seen him put together a full game of good coaching against a P4 opponent. Minnesota was the closest. Hopefully that changes Saturday.

That is wild. If he is in fact the top QB, obviously chances are great that he’ll go #1 overall.
That means the price to keep him for 2027 is going to go waaaaaaay up. But it also means we get the advantage of selling him on not having to learn a new system in his draft-eligible season.
How do you blame Keenun for hiring Cody Kennedy who coached the worst offensive line in MSU history? He was a Sam Pittman reject from AR. How do you blame Keenum for hiring Hutzler and then letting him hang on for 2 disastrous seasons? Keenum wasn't coaching against Toledo when they beat us and then they went on to get beat 5x by Ohio, W KY, Bowling Green, Buffalo, and also of all teams the the Fighting Moorhead's of Akron? He's come a long way since but I don't see how that first year was on Keenum other than signing off on letting Selmon hire a guy that you even said wasn't ready
Yes, it appears he has learned from his mistakes and is willing to adjust. Also, like great sales in a business, a great QB can cover-up a ton of issues.
If I had to guess, he will be a Mississippi State Bulldog next year. And this is a big reason why. if you’re projected as the #1 pick, why change anything that’s clearly working?
We had all three timeouts and have a really good kicker. I didn’t mind going for some points although we went about it in a weird way by running it and then trying to pass it.

That comes from coaching development and training.

I disagree. Year 3. If we had a better DC that was there day one instead of staying until Alabama finished their season then we were never as bad as we were/ the hole not as deep. I may have changed my mind about which year counts as one if he'd have moved on from Hutzler after year 1. Last year could have been better with a competent DC which set us back another year. If you want to give Lebby a pass then you give Keenum one. At least Keenum realized what he did and was fixed within the year.
No I haven't forgiven Keenum and I'm counting this year as 3 for Lebby. He's also a first time HC so we have to expect growing pains. We were blessed that KT dropped in our lap otherwise we might have but been able to dig out barring a complete staff overhaul and bringing a team in to reset.
The problem with this analysis is they were all HC that came over. We brought a coordinator.

I would certainly guess the same. But, that investment to keep him will likely have major implications further down the roster. Just have to hope that we have a plan on how to manage the depth players that we need to keep or add.
Can't say, I've ever been down on him. He came into a tough situation, with limited NIL funds.

We have a plan. We have several plans as well. Taylor wants to be here and I think people need to realize this. He will be well taken care of as well as the rest of the roster next year .
Like State Always does except on 2 occasions:
Sherrill (who at the time was selling cars) and Leach (who was looking for his retirement gig!)So hiring a coordinator doesn’t excuse him from the ridiculous hires and head scratching blowout losses in YEAR 1- 2024!

To answer @Bulldawg77 question, a little. We kinda living on Taylor right now. So far, he seems to be a true dual threat who can make any offense smoke.
Lebby still doing some dumb stuff and I don’t like how he doesn’t galvanize the fanbase in the offseason. But winning cures all. We will see.
I never liked his decision with Hutzler and not making a move last year, but he did inherit a dumpster fire and it seems like he never lost the locker room, which is the sign of a good leader. He it looking like he may take a big step forward this year, but we will know for sure after the next two weeks.
My opinion of Lebby the play-caller has changed. He's scheming up open receivers all over the field. The play call with Gracen Harris was ballsy, but Harris was a HS QB so he was the right guy to run that. He also learned to SLOW DOWN with a substantial lead. He doesn't have the horses to keep the pedal to the metal all game, so milking the clock in the fourth quarter this year has helped us hold on to leads.

The chances of us going 6-6 without an injury to Taylor are microscopic. 10-2 is probably more likely than 6-6, statistically.
