Hibriten (4-0) @ East Burke (3-2)
Prediction: Hibriten 38, East Burke 16
Hibriten comes into this one undefeated and playing some of the best football in the conference, while East Burke has quietly won three of its last four after a tough start. The Cavaliers are coming off a 38-0 shutout of Patton and have shown they can compete when they establish the run and control the line of scrimmage. Still Hibriten has been much more explosive offensively and has consistently found ways to put teams away. I expect East Burke to make it competitive early in the first half, but Hibriten's overall balance and playmaking eventually give the Panthers separation.
East Rutherford (0-4) @ Forest Hills (4-0)
Prediction: Forest Hills 42, East Rutherford 6
East Rutherford is still searching for its first win after a brutal opening stretch that has included Asheville, Christ School, St. Joseph's Catholic, and Hibriten. The Cavaliers have shown flashes offensively but have struggled to consistently finish drives, which is a problem against a Forest Hills team that enters this game undefeated. Losing #6 last week will hurt their offensive style of play. The Yellow Jackets just survived a 27-26 overtime thriller against Hoke County and should have plenty of confidence heading home. I expect East Rutherford to play with urgency, but Forest Hills has way too much consistency on both sides of the ball to let this one get away. Unfortunately ER will not find the Win column this week.
Chase (4-0) @ R-S Central (4-1)
Prediction: R-S Central 49, Chase 35
This is easily the game of the week, with undefeated Chase traveling to face a 4-1 R-S Central team that has been absolutely lighting up the scoreboard. Chase has scored 171 points through four games, while R-S Central has put up 218 and is averaging 44 points per game. The matchup should come down to Chase's explosive passing attack against R-S Central's physical rushing game, and whichever team controls the pace could control the game. I'm taking RS in a close one, but this has all the ingredients of a fourth-quarter shootout that could go either way.
Patton (0-5) @ Draughn (0-5)
Prediction: Patton 21, Draughn 14
This might be the hardest game of the week to predict because both teams enter at 0-5 and desperately need their first win. Patton has struggled offensively but has at least shown the ability to score, including a 21-point performance against Owen, while Draughn has managed just six points all season. Neither team has given us much reason to expect a high-scoring game, so field position, turnovers and special teams could decide this one. I'm giving Patton the slight edge simply because we've seen a little more offensive production, but don't be surprised if this is a wild finish.
