I’m not even blaming the player. If a coach wants him to do some unusual crap like run around in his own end zone trying to run clock against a rush it’s up to the coach to be very clear how he handles it. They chose to give up the 2 points and cover a safety punt for the win. Just drop back and take a knee, then punt will be the last play of the game. They got cute and tried to avoid the punt it appears.
You go to the back of the endzone and run sideways until someone gets close and run out of the back of the endzone. Just mindblowingly stupid.
Or do what Vinny Testaverde did when taking an intentional safety late in the game for the Jets back in the day. Just turn around and throw the ball about 100 mph backwards through the end zone.
