He simply can't help himself. LSU has listed Leavitt as "doubtful" for the Ole Miss game. There's not a person on the planet who doesn't think Leavitt is playing in this game.

Yep. He's probably pi$$ed at the conference for poo-pooing on his NFL players, so he'll most likely take every opportunity to thumb his nose at the SEC rules...
Yeah, he's just spitting in Sankey's eye, knowing there's nothing he can really do about this.
League rules prohibit misleading availability reports and allow punishment, but there's no way really to prove Leavitt isn't doubtful.
Are these injury reports mandated and punishable simply because of gambling interests? What did opposing coaches do back in the day?
Yeah, I guess you say Leavitt's doubtful to move the line a bit in Ole Miss' favor so then people can bet more $ on LSU to cover.
In Kiffin`s defense, I do like his Fansville/Dr. Pepper commercial appearances. Those, not just his, are the best.
Sankey should fine LSU. The SEC rules about the availability charts specific prohibit misleading or deceitful reports for strategic purposes and require the programs act in good faith. They also specify the fines that can be issued for violating these guidelines. If he wants to thumb his nose at the conference rules, the conference should lower the hammer on LSU.
...and as with most teenagers, the disgruntled behavior works in their favor when you give it attention and energy. He's turning LSU into the 80's Miami Hurricanes and liking it the more people complain.

For one, if they came after him for this, it would be portrayed as the SEC is just out to get Lane.
And how do you enforce it? We have a situation with Stewart now. Are we misleading people about his status?
Just me. I hated SOS when he was at UF, but that's just b/c he was good and cocky about it. SOS was never a skeevy dirtbag. So though I hated him at UF, I was happy to have him here.
I would just as soon consign myself to 5-win seasons in perpetuity vs having Lane a coach. I want to win, at almost all costs. But not that cost.

Yeah, there's just nothing endearing about constantly being an insufferable, self-absorbed jerk. Spurrier balanced being a cocky jerk with humor. But he also just wanted to win. Lane cares about Lane, first and foremost. Spurrier didn't screw around with nonsense like fake injury reports.
Then there's little point in having rules that specifically address this issue.
As far as how you police it, you investigate it, just like any other violation of league rules. If a coach has a history of listing multiple players on Thursday as "doubtful," and those players routinely end up playing on Saturday at a significantly higher rate than the other league schools, that's pretty strong evidence of a violation.
I thought he did just that. But when I went looking for it, the results were all about him debunking reports of his failing health.
I know im in a minority. But I still say we would embrace Lane just like we did Spurrier if he won here.

I'm not sure what your point is. Are you disagreeing when I say he is one of the very best coaches in the nation? He did win a couple of Conference USA championships plus having produced a couple of national Top 10 teams and a couple of other national Top 15 teams. With its history, LSU could have hired just about any coach in the nation. After all, they did lure a coach from Notre Dame. They hired Kiffin.
Is that really the only measurement for a great coach? Because that leaves only 5 coaches that can be considered great:
Kirby Smart (Georgia), Dabo Swinney (Clemson), Ryan Day (Ohio State), and Curt Cignetti (Indiana) and Mack Brown (Texas)
For me it's character. Spurrier was arrogant as all get out, but he had solid character. Lane is just trash. I would personally not be able to get past that.
I don't know if there's a single incident from Lane's life that's been a character move.

We all know he's going to play. With that said, it's not entirely egregious to what he is doing. Coaches habitually place some players listed as doubtful, but somehow they suit up and play.
Lane just screwing around. He's a snake in the grass, but this incident is not worth the attention.
