First year HC against a team with a ton of talent. It wasn't pretty, but I trust there will be improvement.
Stoops is not the coach any longer. Stien owns the team now. I only hope Stein can improve UK FB as much as Stoops did during his career.
The 2nd half was the issue. We did fine in the first. I trust this staff will learn from this game and be able to make better adjustments in future games. Bama defense will be the best this team plays all year. Tough task for a 2nd game but they held their own nearly 3 quarters. Future is bright for KY football.
Can't lie. I was very disappointed. I did not anticipate struggling on offense to that degree. I didn't think we'd win, but I was hoping we'd be in the ballpark of the spread.
For some reason, some on here view disappointment over this game as an unrealistic emotion and proof of troll behavior. SMH.

Defense got gassed. Offense couldn't get a 1st down to save its life in the 2nd half.
I didn’t think we did much better in the first half honestly. Bama gifted us quite a bit and we really didn’t capitalize much.
That’s funny right there. Stoops leaves the cupboard bare and you’re hoping Stein can do as good as him.
I was however surprised by the wide receivers being nonexistent so far. There is talent but they were completely outmatched by the coverage.
So it's easier to play offense? We should have seen more tired throws from Alabama. The defense stunk.
Defenses get tired faster, yes. Our offense couldn't stay on the field to give the defense a break.

I’ve been ringing the bell for the Alabama defense. That is the best defensive unit in our conference.

I knew minchey might see ghosts early but i thought hed be in the game by half. I was wrong. Plus schematically the coaches didn't adjust to the consistent overloads.
Then throw in the extremely dumb fake punt attempt.
Minchey will get there but its going to take the first part of the season at least. I don't expect our trip to college station as his first road game will go well either, so we will be on struggle bus there too.
Disappointed all around with the qb and offensive staff.

We effectively played with 9 on offense. Our WRs had zero impact on the game and were completely taken away by Alabama.
That's the thing. Unless we dump much more money into football than we have been, that just is not going to happen. The teams ahead of us are increasing their budgets as well so UK is going to have a hard time catching up.

This. Alabama was just way better than us at this point. They may be sneaky good this year. They are mentioned in the next group of teams in the SEC this year but they may actually be in the Texas, UGA and LSU class.

We ran the ball better in first half until Bama realized we had no downfield passing game and flooded box after half time. Our recivers run very poor routes and can't seem to find open space in zone defenses. I also noticed they are not very physical and got bodied and pushed around by Bama secondary screwing up routes and timing. Finally our backs are nonexistent when trying to help block on pass plays. The only bright spot I saw was we have talented tight ends and for the first time in ages, a willingness to incorporate them in the offenses.
I’m a casual football fan in the sense that I cheer like hell, watch every game but don’t follow beyond game day. I just saw a tweet where the Athletic put out a ranking of P4 teams NIL spending. Assuming the tweet is accurate (big assumption I know), IU was 13th in the country while UK was 15TH IN THE SEC. Stein may be a great coach but if that’s accurate he’s definitely got a knife in a gun fight right now.

This is true. Stoops caught a massive amount of crap for saying the same thing.

No doubt we are at a disadvantage compared to most of the SEC but we spent more than at least 6 currently ranked teams. Any UK football fan would be ecstatic with a top 25 ranking year in and year out. Ohio State in football and Duke in basketball should win every year if it was only about money. I do believe money is a huge factor if not the most significant factor but there are obviously other things at work like coaching that produce wins.It's worse than that. If you do not think Stoops improved Kentucky football program, either you are a new young fan or you have an agenda against Stoops. If Stein does half as much for Kentucky football as Stoops did, then Stein will turn out to be a great hire.
I predict the Cats to go 3-9 maybe 4-8 at best and that is not to bash Stein, but that is to say the Kentucky job is a difficult job and our schedule is tough.
Cool now let’s talk about what I said not just blindly doing a Stiops war cry, the last few years and how he left the talent pool pretty dry. If you can’t see that you are either a young fan or have an agenda against Stein. If Stoops was the same coach he was previously in his stint at UK he wouldn’t have turned the fans off and gotten fired. 3-9 or 4-8 with the schedule they have this year, with what’s Stoops left would be acceptable to most fans without an agenda against Stein. I guess you were wrong on all your assumptions.
There are some posts i wonder about...i mean, do you truly not understand the depth issue, the known/predicted lack of talent/depth in the wide receiver room, and the world class secondary Alabama has? Everyone certainly has a right to ask questions, but getting worked up about this team running out of gas against a top ten team in the second half is a strange angle with this team, this year. And if you want to talk about our rushing, please see the wide receiver room/alabama secondary comments above.
Defense gave up 128 yards in the first half (5 rushing) with four sacks and two ints so that’s a little better than stinking. Four quarter game I know but Sloan didn’t help the offense at all with his play calling, especially in the 2nd half. We consistently gave them short fields the entire half and with our defense gassed, the blowout was on. Depth is an issue but no one is going to stop bama with everything I mentioned. Sloan and Minchey need to step up and sustain some drives or our guys on defense are gonna start dropping like fly’s.
