How many years in advance are non-conference games scheduled? Just curious because of the seemingly “mis-match” this Saturday. Wondering how many years ago it was scheduled. There was a time UNI was pretty strong in their division.

Because of payrolls and transfers FCS football is now what DII was.
Big Ten and SEC should not be scheduling FCS teams.
With ISU every year, I'm fine with an FCS each year. We need to be undefeated heading into conference play each year which probably allows us 2 losses and still a playoff birth.
A bunch of big ten teams tied at 2 losses. The tie breaker will be head to head or who they beat and didn’t beat in conference.
A blindfold and cigarette execution of an FCS team isn’t going to put Iowa over the hump.
No idea but guessing it's at least 4 or 5 years out. Iowa plays the following Non Con games-
2027- Ball St, ISU, North Dakota
2028- UT- Martin, ISU, Western Michigan
2029- UNI, ISU, NIU
2030- Fla Atlantic, ISU

Really wish they would just re-align conferences to be 13 teams and just play 12 conference games and conference winner to the playoffs. The only hang up would be possible ties within conference. So then a tie breaker would send a team to the playoffs.
They get the backups a lot of in game live experience before a large crowd to see how they do in said conditions.
It's typically 5-7 years in advance. There's plenty of circumstances that could affect that though.

You'd then have a 14-team G5 conference mid-major half of the FBS (AAC, CUSA, MAC, MWC, Sun Belt).

Yeah I thought that was a little redundant. The order is different and we play AT Iowa State, but other than that, it's the same. If we're gonna continue this route, there's plenty of G5 teams to pick out besides NIU.
One thing to keep in mind, though, is that Northern Illinois is one of the closest FBS schools to the University of Iowa, clocking in at just under 2.5 hours away.
As for Northern Iowa, we have tended to schedule them once every 4 years give or take, since we resumed adding them to the schedule with any regularity beginning in 1995.
The thing about scheduling FCS schools is that they need the payouts the larger in-state FBS schools provide. It helps for exposure for these smaller schools and it serves, essentially, as a preseason game for the bigger schools. And until the NCAA can afford to buy a 3D printer and manifest a new pair of testicles, and adopt the addition of a preseason (non-official regular season) game, then teams can and should continue to schedule FCS teams if they so choose and at their own expense and risk.
Adding a preseason game would solve all the problems and arguments AGAINST a P4 school scheduling an FCS team.......but will we ever get to a point where they'll be allowed to have "preseason games"?
Preseason exhibition games are stupid and they’d be lucky to get 10k in Kinnick for one
These games used to be scheduled years in advance, 3, 5 or more years. It was hard to tell how weak or strong a team would be that many years later. Scheduling has been more fluid since Missouri canceled their games with us.
For a few years the hawks and other Div 1 teams couldnt schedule FCS teams like UNI but there is always change
Maybe they will cancel a year before first game is to be played. like they just did vs Tennessee, should be playing them this season.
Debby still hoping they won't still suck by then. Wisconsin has recorded back to back 41-13 losses in their 2 game series with ND. Debbie probably shakes out the same way.
never gonna happen because we have to play Clown U and subsidize the Iowa Teachers College each year
Like it or not I don't think we can count on a win against Iowa State every season based on what I watched Saturday night. Rogers flat outcoached us that first half and his team looked well prepared. He will have to tone things down with the bush league stuff and I suspect that will come. If he can recruit and attract players we will have some very competitive battles with them.

ISU has beaten Iowa regularly. If you want to talk subsidies, that's what this weekend's game is about.
Its to get 2nd and 3rd stringers reps in a game in front of a crowd and rest some starters for Michigan
I swear to God most of you could give a **** about Iowa Football. You want to complain about schedules? Look at Penn State, Nebraska, Indiana, Texas Tech and others. Iowa schedules similar to most other power 5 schools.
Iowa is 32-17 against ISU since the series resumed 49 years ago
Is that embarrassing when Penn State just took their coach and a lot of their players? I'd say no. Rocco is in top 10 QBs in college for sure.
That really means nothing at the moment. Iowa State had an excellent coach in Campbell in recent years and have a potentially good one now in Rogers. We haven't had the coaching edge in this series for awhile.

Who said anyone should be embarrassed? I just think it's silly how people here diminish the game when it's been as competitive as it could be. The same can't be said for games against the likes of UNI.
