Worst OP in years. Starts off saying more NIL is the problem So I guess UMass with 1/10th our NIL kicked our buts but if we had even more NIL we’d have won?

We’d get easily beat by NDSU who has tiny NIL but don’t tell that to AI
UMass had a quality quarterback because they paid up for one from the portal. We raided the bargain bin. QB play was the biggest difference in the game, as theirs was 10x better than ours.

Richie isn't paying anyone for this type of garbage.

Al has pretty much deep-throated every coach since 1.0. This is a classic example:

https://www.on3.com/boards/threads/...ombo-of-bill-parcells-vince-lombardi.6487922/

He constantly crazes attention and would post his embarrassing upset alerts on other teams' boards. Then act like he does here with anyone that disagreed. It was horrifying that people with little exposure to RU thought he was representative of all RU fans.
You know I was being sarcastic right on Richie?

I actually believe AI doesn’t believe in 90% if want he posts. He just wants clicks and reactions as he’s likely very lonely in the real world
I have a very fulfilling social life and am not lonely.
I’m here because I love Rutgers and I love Coach Schiano and I hate seeing a good coach get railroaded because the fanbase isn’t motivated enough to support success.

Didnt get enough attention this past weekend AL? 20-30 MILLION DOLLARS couldnt compete with last year's doormat of college football AND the doormat of the ACC. Granted they can/did improve, but 20+ million and a sh*tty, bloated, ineffective coaching staff led to ZERO improvements for Rutgers....literally none.
Likely $20M, and no money for a quality QB. That’s the issue.

What about the indoor practice facility?! Surely that contributed too? you are the ONLY person in the entire fan base wanting to “Grant a mulligan“ at this point. JFC.
Everyone else has a quality indoor facility but us. That’s why the best in jersey go elsewhere. Kai Pritchard, recruited since freshman year, flees as soon as he gets an Illinois offer. Lookup their facility on YouTube. Every other place is serious. This place is Amateur Hour.

I think the lack of media coverage, cancelling the spring game, and just not being even remotely honest with the fans/giving the same BS answers every post game is helping seal his fate.

The record is the record obviously, but how we feel about the program otherwise is not good.
When things are going bad, every sin you’ve committed will be held against you.

No BS here. You need good quarterback play to beat teams. Our qb was a net negative against UMass, which is the biggest reason we lost. UMass’s quarterback was a net positive. With a good quarterback, Rutgers is 2-0. Indiana, USC, PSU, Northwestern, Wisconsin, and Nebraska, all paid up for good quarterbacks. These programs, among others, care about football success, which is why they had adequate NIL. We raided the bargain bin and are 0-2. We are trying to develop 2 guys on the fly. By next year, they will be ready to be a good qb. For now, we just have to live with their mistakes, as they develop.
Greggy had 25 million
He went got Gavin worst QB ever at RU
He went and got Lonerghan
He had Surace for 3 years

Your point on QB is correct but Greggy is just god awful at his job that’s why we don’t have one.

Plant post by Keli to see the reactions? Lol.

Forget about the lack of talent that GS brought in, we got out coached in the 1st 2 games.

JH had his team prepped. We looked like we showed up to a final exam without any studying or knowledge of the subject against UMASS.

You live in an alternate reality

over $20M NIL, one of the most highly paid staffs, “vertical alignment” and manhandled by teeny Umass and outplayed by woeful BC.

but you are right, it is we fans who are the problem

What says $25M to you?
  • The portal DBs who can’t cover
  • The portal LBs who lack range
  • The portal DEs who can’t set the edge or rush the passer
  • The portal OL who barely sees the field
  • The portal QB who keeps throwing the ball to the other team.

    if this were a $25M roster, we’d be 2-0.

OK- that kind of proves the point. If UMass could afford this QB - I am sure he is getting less than our 2 starting QB's. And what about them having WR's our DB's could not stay withing 5 yards of- and both of their lines domination ours?
Beat me to it. What does it say that UMass with their lack of financial support, NIL, resources, facilities etc…can go out and not only attract a better qb candidate but be able to turnover their entire roster in 1 year? That their coaches can evaluate better talent through the same portal process we have access with less manpower and support.
Very few players are getting the payday that is reported. Very few teams are spending the money that was reported prior. UMass qb is getting a fraction of what Rutgers is paying our QB’s. Greg had access to the same people over the years at the same price. His evaluation process obviously prioritizes different metrics, people and things. He chose to maintain the false premise of “developmental program.”

Crediting them for signing Watson? Didn't RU sign Lonergan instead? What am I missing? Wouldn't this mean RU went after the wrong QB in the offseason? How is that not Schiano's fault?

Their qb significantly outplayed ours. Their WR was a transfer from Wisconsin. Our DB who couldn’t cover him was from South Dakota. Whom do you think is worth more.

Virginia signed Beau Pribula for $1.5M because that’s what serious teams do. Schiano worked within the budget constraints and obviously was not successful, so it’s his fault. It’s easier to make mistakes with a smaller budget. Had Schiano signed Beau Pribula instead, we’d be 2-0.

You are just plain wrong here sorry. We have a lot of losses for our $20M and how can you actually say that going from $20M to $25M makes us better when Umass was clearly better with $3M. ND State would beat us easily with practically no money or facilities and year 1 in FBS.

Not necessarily. We'd still have these coaches. The Rockne Of The Raritan was thoroughly outclassed by Harysmiak and O'Brien.

Exactly where was this analysis pre season? Where was this analysis when he was making his bold predictions? Crazy!!! Was saying a couple of months ago now that Greg has the support and money to build a roster there will be noticeable difference. Now denying the money being reported by everyone involved even Kelli.

I was got by GS, and his mulligan was last season. This off-season, he looked relaxed, and ready for the season, had vibes of '05, with TJ saying the right things also, but currently sitting at 0-2. We should be 2-0 atm, we knew we had to replace AK, but AJS is still on roster, AR in the backfield and the OL coming back, not sure why he got DL. The defenses under his watch are usually very solid, wtf happened? Why are we getting players from FCS/1-AA, while UMass is getting players from P4 benches? By all metrics, we should at least be a 7-9 win program annually, with chances at double digit wins. This past off-season, it sucked watching Chesney go to UCLA to be the hc, Nate Woody go to Cincinnati to be the dc, watching a few of our players go to other schools like UVa and Cal.

We have too many coaches, like 100+, while most others have between 50-70 staff max. Where is the NIL going? Why are his sons on staff? What are their qualifications by this point? That meme picture of GS talking to junior GS, had the vibes of GS telling him he's grounded and not a hc ripping into his QB coach. Instead of cosplaying as a P2 team, he should worry about actually being one. I have more but don't want to lose my cool and possibly get banned. Why should I even get a sub to this forum when RU and it's HC are not serious about winning? This program is pathetic right now. $18 million buyout and RU can't afford that, that's sad. Until GS won 8+ games, he should not have been extended. Can we get JH to come back as hc? Are we able to lure in a coach like Bob Chesney? I would take Dabo if Clemson got rid of him. Last season seemed like the perfect time to strike, but we left at least 3 wins on the field, mainly due to atrocious defense. I like GS, he actually graduates players, and brought us back twice, but he is like burning it down right now. Maybe he would do better next year, don't know, but some changes have to be made. I want to see what Mrs. Zinn, our LSU transfer AD, will have him do to start making changes in the program. This program has no fire, no focus, and no desire to rise up. GS had nothing but his grin on Friday night, and I was not impressed. At the very least we outscored our opponents in the 2nd half, there's that.

I follow USC for my buddy from the Corps, and I wanted to tell him about a competitive game, that's out the freaking window. I don't give up, but doing the same thing expecting different results is the very definition of insanity. I believe Einstein said that, could be wrong.

Al, while I appreciate your enthusiasm, please, STFU and open your eyes. The forest hasn't been this thick in decades, you don't appreciate how much chopping has to be done. UMass beat us with 6-7x less NIL than we have, inexcusable, and those players showed up this past off-season while GS was chasing 1-AA make a wish players. This ain't right

Yes, they have better QBs.

How is that a money problem?
UMass certainly didnt have more money to get a QB than Rutgers.

Plus we have Surace - who is an excellent QB and arguably should have been ready last year.
At least according to some posters.

That's a talent evaluation problem.
Or a QB development problem.

Basically, its everything except money regarding UMass and BC.

"Surace is going to be our Doug Flutie"

"
People are sleeping on AJ Surace, but not RutgersAl. I think he’s going to be our best Quarterback EVER, though this year, he will hold a clipboard and acclimate to this level of football, as the league he played in wasn’t that great. He’ll have plenty of time to watch film, learn the playbook, develop chemistry with his wide receivers on the scout team, get stronger, and get used to the speed of the game. He’s already on campus training.

Next year, he’ll be ready to go."
(Note this is from 2024. Meaning he should be ready to go for 2026)

"Love Wimsatt.

Wimsatt is Wimsatt, but Surace is going to be the GOAT. 🐐"

Judging from Lonergan's performance, he chose the wrong QB to be the starter, though I doubt Surace would have been any better. If Watson was here, he would have been as bad as Lonergan was. His running ability certainly wouldn't have been utilized. The bad performance of both RU QBs is a coaching problem.

Come on Al, you are getting silly even for you. Watson had attempted only 63 passes and 54 rush attempts at Virginia Tech before going to UMass. His NIL deal is $123.7K. Your argument would be better if you claimed they had no tape or scouting report and UMass chose to sign him because they had nothing to lose. You just keep blathering nonsense that nobody but you believes.

"William Watson III is a 6' 0" 210 lbs Senior Quarterback for Massachusetts and is listed by ESPN from Springfield, MA. William Watson III ranks 1st within the current Massachusetts football roster. The modeled value is $123.7K, with $321K allocated to reconcile the sport pool."

did the marines teach you to repeat the same mistakes? Obviously not.

What you’re saying is true, but we don’t play BC or UMass anymore. we need to make sure we have an adequate NIL budget, so we don’t repeat the mistakes of the past. We need a Big Ten NIL budget because we need players good enough for the Big Ten. We need to be competitive with PSU, Maryland, Wisconsin, Michigan, USC, and Nebraska.

if we don’t have budget, it’s not worth to make the change. You only make the change if you are going to end up better off then you were before. That takes money.

Here is your problem Al.

Your arguments comparing to the rest of the Big Ten make at least minimal sense.
People (many) may disagree but nobody can say more money wouldnt make us more competitive.

The problem is when you apply that to UMass and BC.
Saying they have more talent and blaming money (overall roster spend: revenue share + NIL) for the talent disparity.

Any talent disparity is 100% on Schiano and poor talent evaluation.
They have better QBs? That's because Schiano poorly selected Lonergan and poorly developed Surace.

No matter how much you only want "facts" on spending - even you can't believe UMass and BC "spent" more than Rutgers on their football rosters.
