4-0 Carrollton ( GA ) A team from Georgia is 4-0 will take in 3-1 West Charlotte. Interesting matchup. Carrollton seems to be a scoring machine averaging 60 points a game. Anyone know any about Carrollton. Any thoughts with this game.
Experience for the kids is great. Usually a team like Carrollton will cover expenses and give a portion of the gate, for taking on the challenge. So West Charlotte makes some money out of it, challenges themselves, and gives those kids a great experience they won't forget.I have a genuine question…
What good comes out of games like this?
I get to be the best you gotta beat the best. But can’t you find a great team that’s closer than a 6 hour bus drive…
Also some guys may stay and visit ATL. Those wanting recruiting notice will get it with this game. U have to remember IF and big IF WC returned the team on paper that they were supposed to they may be ranked top in state and nationally. They lost 10 D1 guys and are still 3-1 with a nasty schedule. So when game scheduled it looked a lot different on paper.Experience for the kids is great. Agree 100% on that. Those GA schools have double the enrollment of typical large NC schools. Playing them and then a tough local opp after is recipe for disaster. thought the same thing with MC especially after the 4th q collapse. MC has played a VERY difficult physical sked. WC has too. That MC game after Carrolton will be physically and mentally tough. Good thing is WC got WM week prior. MC goes to TN. Think WC MC will be a low scoring defensive battle.I like the fact that WC is providing this experience. There will be D1 players all over the field, and it will give the kids a chance to see where they stack up talent-wise.
One of the dangers of playing this type of game, though, is the physical toll of going against a big, strong, deep team. Mallard Creek lost to Buford and then turned around and lost to Myers Park. Maybe Myers Park is simply better than Mallard Creek—I don't know—but I would imagine Mallard Creek was probably banged up from the Buford game.
WC plays Mallard Creek the following week, so they could potentially be looking at two losses if they come out of this game banged up and aren't at full strength.
There’s definitely value in scheduling a nationally ranked opponent, but I might consider scheduling an easier game the following week to give the team a chance to recover physically.
