Had people at work predicting an upset, but I kept saying you need to be realistic it is still BAMA and we have 1 game under a new system.

This is going to take some time, just gotta let him get his guys and his system fully baked in.
We needed several more warm up games before facing a secondary like we did today and even then it would have taken almost flawless execution to beat them.

I still think this is the guy that turns our program around.

Can't do it without twice the money.

2nd half early, twice: third and six, we call a slow developing pocket pass play, first time sack, second time fumble. Lesson to Stein, WTF, roll the damn pocket against the NFL rush, or two second slant pass. I didn't even mind the first fake punt, at least that was unexpected.

I expected to be competitive. Not to quit.

People who think we are gonna become the Indiana of the sec are gonna be disappointed over steins tenure IMO.

kentucky has played that exact game dozens of times under many different coaches, I don't know what would be encouraging about it. Stein may very well succeed, hopefully he does, but there was nothing encouraging at all about that.
Stein inherited **** from Stoops. We would lose 77-0 with that roster. He is killing HS recruiting and salvaged the roster with good portal adds. He has some pedigree and swagger. He will be great but give him time. Only a fool would judge this UK team as his typical team.

Post of the year! How many games have I watched since the 60s that played out almost identical to this one. The more things change the more they stay the same.

When this happens repeatedly under Stein for 2-3 consecutive years then you will have a point. We have a new staff, 32 transfers, a first year starting QB and playing against Alabama in our 2nd game. Last time bama came to town all asses hadn’t even hit their seats before the game was out of reach. We played a great first half, not sure what happened in the second but take all of the above into account. If you weren’t excited about how the first half went (ie encouraged) then I don’t know what to tell you.

Agreed, I hate moral victories as much as anyone but the score isn’t as indicative of how close the game truly was. UK held its own for the first 2 1/2 quarters. Stein is the right guy for the program and one bad half of football doesn’t change this fact.

I personally don’t think the game yesterday was much of a litmus test. Bama had significantly better depth, size, speed and execution especially in the second half.
We are a long way from competing in FB in the SEC. I really don’t think we will ever rise to the top of the league.
We are perennial middle of the pack program in the SEC.

I’m not sure you could even say we are middle of the pack in the SEC. In my lifetime, Kentucky football has a conference record of 93-222. That means a 29.5% winning percentage. This is why, despite all the flak I caught for it, I defended Stoops who was 38-68. That’s 35.8% — much higher than the program average in my lifetime. If you remove Stoops tenure, Kentucky football was 55-154 in my lifetime for a winning percentage of 26.3%.

Because we can't afford to buy depth. The problem for UK will always be depth because of money.
This is exactly what happened. We could be competitive against a good team for a half. But programs like Bama, LSU, etc. will have more talented depth while we wear out in the second half. We will be very competitive against the middle of the road teams though.
