Becoming more common lately. One of my daughters did this. She graduated HS in 3 years then spent all fall playing with NWSL clubs before enrolling in January. HS soccer is a waste of time

We had two kids on the lacrosse team skip there senior years awhile ago. I wouldn’t say it’s common but definitely not unheard of.
