I think football "science" would point to needing four things to have a chance at a good season...
1. Veteran Qb(check)
2. Veteran, servicable offensive line(check)
3. Talented veteran defensive tackles(NOPE)
4. Good field position management through special teams(NOPE)
I don't think we will be terrible, especially on offense. But we won't play good football because our special teams isn't special, and we won't be able to stop the run without compromising in the passing game. This is why 6 wins is a safe bet.
Who knows? Every year is a new year. Plenty of teams so far have looked pretty rusty even in week 2.

Why not? If a middle tier team like Iowa can do it, why can’t other middle tier teams?
That is true, many years Iowa doesn’t look very good but they get 8-9 wins through playing smart
Not just DT's, the whole DL. Michigan looks pretty middling but dudes on the DL mean they are competitive.
DE is the easiest position on the field, if the DT has to be doubled a DE merely has to get upfield and be able to tackle, or rush the passer on third and long. Of course having a stud is awesome and they will be celebrated because they will get a ton of sacks, force turnovers, strips all sorts of stuff. But the big boys in the middle take all of the attention. Can you even name the DEs when we had Suh? Was it Pierre Allen or someone. Nobody cared because our DTs were dominating the game making life easier for everyone else.
I think we'll have to score a lot of points to win games this season. Fortunately, we play in the BIG where only about 3 of those teams can boat race us. Unfortunately, all 3 are on our schedule this year.
Wat? We haven't even been close to nine wins in over a decade. We were beating Ohio(a mac team returning 5 starters with a new coach), 28-21 with like 9 minutes to go. In order to win 9 games we would have to beat Michigan State, Maryland, Rutgers, Washington, Illinois, Iowa...that is anything but typical for a team that is 10-17 under Rhule in conference. Rhule has never finished better than 4-5 in conference, and has two 3-6 seasons. Keep in mind his 4-5 season had him losing to two teams with interim coaches and no teams in the top 20.
Very possible , I’m assuming since you’re on this board you’re a husker fan so I’ll use Iowa as an example since it won’t offend you. **** program with no history , **** recruiting, coach with most big 10 losses, crappy state with bad corn, history of racism and cheating and they can grab a 9 win season once in awhile so why can’t we?
Pierre and Barry Turner. I wouldn't say it's the easiest position in the field. But for sure it helps if you have a dominant interior DL. But if argue the position helped the most by a dominant interior DL is the ILBs. They likely get free room to roam when those guys eat up blocks.

Probably because we get beat by Iowa 9 out of 10 times. Hard to win 9 when you can't beat a top 25 team AND you can't beat Iowa. Very weird thread making fun of a team that has not only beat us, but beat us using the run game, toughness, special teams while we diddle around with weak *** spread game, play stupid football, and can't get a yard on 3rd or 4th down. I know fans can only hate on their team so much, but damn...maybe we should target Rutgers, and Maryland. Teams we can consistently beat. Iowa football culture sucks ***, their fans suck ***, their history sucks *** but they still beat the **** out of nebraska all the time.
Yes, I was uncomfortable with how often AC was pressured...I still don't know how good any teams are right now though. Watching makes it seem like the sport is kind of falling apart in terms of skills and scheme. You can only have so many transfers, new coaches, new systems, new players constantly recycling and we don't have the 26 year old veterans from the pandemic to kind of prop the whole thing up.
Why target Rutgers and Maryland ? Their fan base isn’t constantly over here talking ****. What you said about Iowa is all true and anyone that follows Nebraska knows that. Once Iowa fans realize we know this perhaps they will not find a need to come over here and tell us what we already know. And despite all this I still wouldn’t want to be a fan of Iowa football but you feel free to root for them if you want
This. Very good DT's are a huge boost to ILBs. You could have Lavonte David at linebacker, but if the DT's are undersized and getting dominated he would look average.
We were two games short of 9 wins last year and now we have a way better qb, better defensive coordinator, better offensive line coach, better talent overall minus running back, and the big ten isn’t looking super strong. It’s do-able
It is do-able, I agree. We'll have to wait until Indiana and after to make any conclusions...winning the first 5 games doesn't mean much as we will have to win some games in November, which hasn't happened in a long time. I haven't seen anything that makes it seem we are better in the categories you point out. We looked all world last year against the p2w teams as it should be.
I'll give them some grace because the only teams worse than us are basketball schools or private schools. I know if we were in the top 10 there would be husker fans going over to Michigan, OSU, Oregon boards to talk ****. I am sure if we had won 9 out of 10 against Iowa there would be a ton of husker fans over there. In fact, there might be right now, I wouldn't know.
What do you mean by running back? The room is noticeably better this year, despite losing Emmett.

I'm not sure why they have chosen the Iowa board but there hasn't been a single season where Hawkeye fans aren't reminded by them how we've never had a coach like Osborne, never dominated the 80's and 90's, don't have 5 Natty's and will always be mediocre.
I think the B1G really needed to manufacture a black Friday rivalry perhaps?
Most Iowa fans would have chosen Minnesota or Wisconsin for that game tho neither would have fared much better than Nebraska as of late.
Nobody asked us though and probably didn't ask you guys either.
Offensively, the are bad, but they play really good defense. Kidding yourself a bit.
Sprinkles followed by Frost hurt a lot of us. Jury is out on Rhule.
